I have killed a few people in proto gear with the pistol. It is a beast weapon if you have gun game. |

I practiced with the scrambler pistol every now and then and I find it rather difficult to use. Without the proper skill book and the actual skills that come with experience, my pistol is best used as a melee weapon. I don't find it OP.
As for where the line is drawn for what is considered OP, that is subjective and thus varies in opinion from one merc to another. Therefore I am in no position to debate with you where that line is drawn. |

I think it's fine. It's a pretty good weapon but has a major drawback: low magazine size. |

The line between OP or not is a bit fuzzy, but at the same time fairly it's easy to say "probably is" or "probably isn't". If a few players are skilled at using something and destroy with it, it's "probably isn't". If anyone can do it, and it doesn't require any skill to use (player skill, not SP here) then "probably is". I've been using pistols from the start of this build and they are not OP. I'm good with them and I get a ton of kills, but they're not something that just anyone can use and be good with. You're not going to see a wave of pistols with everyone using them. You didn't see any hardly in the last build because tiny clip size made them almost impossible to use. Now they're very usable, but are definitely not spray n' pray. They require a great deal of skill to use properly.

The scrambler pistol is totally under used. People seem to opt for the SMG as a side arm preference.
I would use the side-arm a lot more if the wheel wasn't so laggy and switching in mid run didnt take 7 seconds. I think if the input lag was resolved then we would see a lot more side arm use.
I gave up trying to use R2 as it would miss the side-arm and go to the equipment slot.
if the controls were tighter and the R2 worked - like another FPS - I think side-arms would be popping up all over the place. |

yeah, but unless they changed it from a few build ago (and if they have the I am totally stupid) then it would often pass the side-arm and go to a nanohive or something (I presume again due to input lag). Not the best thing mid fight. Will try again this afternoon and see idiotic I have been by not using it... |

FisherTheWisher was one of the best headshot Tier1 snipers on MAG I'm told. The pistol might be very powerful, but it seems to require practise, and I find it very inconsistent. |

Its an effective weapon that requires a bit of skill to use. Personally if lag wasn't such an issue I would select one over a MP any time, but the way it is, 'spray and pray' is what works.
The way things are with lag and jerky controls, I find I can miss at close range with a shotgun more than I would care to admit to My chances with a scrambler pistol are just laughable.

I am just starting to prefer the Scrambler over the SMG. I've only put one level into both of the mentioned sidearm skills so I've not used anything above basic though I have "salvaged" a boatload of some high meta level. Mainly I prefer the pistol with my Heavy because of the range, used it to scare or snipe some red dots in tight spots. One match I got two head shots about 30 seconds apart and felt like a hot shot. But my question is about this 450% damage to the head, where did we get this info? Also how much more zoom does the tactical offer from anyone with experience? |

They did. It now cycles between primary and secondary weapons only, you have to hold it down to get to your equipment. |

Therefore I am in no position to debate with you where that line is drawn. I concur, I have it as a secondary on most of my suits, put some SP into it and becomes a pretty great weapon. That being said, with so few rounds it's not really practical against an organised squad where members actually stay close to one another and communicate. |

Is the range that low? Maybe I'm just really used to having a pistol with my HMG (and thus the dramatic difference). It's no super AR that machines me down from halfway across the map but the range seems nice to me (and accurate, I know I'm a horrible shot but the bullets go where I point). |

Not sure if they should be touched....
BUT, they ARE a little OP. I see the Crimson's point.
Just think about it. In many other FPS, a typical pistol can 3-4shot you, and has under 10 rounds. The typical AR or LMG in said FPS can usually 4-6 shot you. Pistol is only slightly stronger, and has much less ammo capacity in the mag/drum/etc. This makes it a good BACKUP weapon. (what you would expect a sidearm to be)
In this game, the pistol has similar ammo capacity as other FPS, BUT, it does double and almost TRIPLE the damage that ARs and LMGs do. (depending on pistol) This takes it out of the realm of being a back up weapon, and makes it a viable main weapon.

If anyone thinks the scramblers are OP then please go ahead and make a pistol only dropsuit (why yes, you can fit a scrambler in both weapon slots) and dominate until CCP realizes they need to fix it. Don't write fancy posts on the forum, demonstrate it in action.
FYI: I'm using the scramblers as primary weapons in game and I don't come out nearly as good as with a militia AR. |
