If you damage/kill a friendly, you are fined ISK from your winnings and you have to compensate the victim monetarily as well. In effect, you get a big ISK fine at the end of the game, and the person you killed gets a portion of that fine added to their own wallet. If you inflict too much damage against your own team, you become designated as a team killer, and anyone on your own team is able to kill you as much as they want without repercussion. If you get designated as a team killer too much, you get suspended from the game temporarily. I think you can even be banned if you keep team killing.
The exception to this would be if the person you damage has joined a squad with you or is on your corp. People in your squad/corp can be shot/killed without penalty, the idea being that you're friends and the TK'ing is either in good fun, part of the plan, or if it is malicious, something you can avoid by leaving the squad/corp.
What's interesting is that, in WoT, the penalty for team damage/killing is actually fairly intelligent. That is, if you shoot a friendly one time, in close proximity to an enemy, the penalty is less than if you were to shoot a friendly repeatedly in an area where no enemies are. The system actually distinguishes between deliberate and accidental team killing, and gives harsher penalties for blatantly malicious team killing, while being a bit more lenient on one accidental hit from a missed shot.
I like the idea of people having to watch their fire, but as the OP demonstrates, if you simply turn FF on and wash your hands of the result it'd be the end of Dust. Having strong negatives for teamkilling in the Instant Battle "highsec" games we're currently playing would be a required step.
ALSO in world of tanks, if you kill someone it highlights your name and gives you a negative kill and the other team some points, once you kill that person, your team is redeemed |

You won't do any of that if this is implemented.

No. You won't do any of that. Let me explain why:
Empire space: Will never have friendly fire on. Much like in EVE, empire space is a safe zone where the only thing you'll have to worry about is the enemy.
Low sec: I don't know how Dust will fall into Low Sec, but I imagine like eve, it'll be a more dangerous version of Empire. You'll have the same rules as high sec, with more open PvP (Friendly fire on, slightly better isk, no territory control)
Null Sec: This is where there are no rules. Friendly Fire will be on and you'll be fighting for planets to control and systems to claim. Let me stress the following: A merc corp will never ever ever hold a planet on their own without support form an EVE Alliance. How are you going to get weapons and armour if you're out in Null when there is no market out there, only what Alliances sell or what you bring with you... How are you going to move around planets without ships? Jump clones can only be activated once every 24 hours...
An Alliance is going to place a commander in charge of the Dust forces they command (Such as TEST and Subreddit Gold). The commander will make DAMNED sure his men are listening to him or he simply won't invite them. If you're not getting invited, you won't be playing in the meaningful part of Dust.
What you want, you're so called 'competitive' play will be stunted corp matches held in Low sec at best. You will never EVER influence territory control as the largest EVE Alliances (Goonswarm, TEST, -A-, etc,) won't support a faction who fights like tools, and if you somehow get lucky and get a planet they own, enjoy it being flattened by a well orchestrated and very well paid Dust alliance group.
I suggest, before you start claiming how you're going to TK everyone, that you actually learn how _CENTRAL_ EVE and, more importantly, it's economy will be to the game. The market, the production and movement of arms... Dustites won't do that alone. And you won't ever be in a meaningful alliance if you keep TKing to the point the FCs remove you from the battle. |
