Mayhaps I should read up on Wing Commander. But still- it certainly seems like the same vision as EVE, just for a broader audience.

The only other 3 space games I've played apart from eve is sins of a solar empire, x3 Terran conflict and battlestar galactic online. Great games but nothing can stand next to eve.

But still- it certainly seems like the same vision as EVE, just for a broader audience. Well if we look at it from that broad an angle than eve is nothing but privateer just for online play. (Which at that time was not doable due to limits of technology. MMO's back then were text based and the internet was much slower than now). This game is trying to combine what was good back then(kinematics immersive gameplay) with what is good now (persistent world's, player driven economy etc). It is a sandbox of sorts like eve that's true, but it's also trying to be realistic. An example he brought up was as a military pilot you can't just take off anywhere, since if yout are gone for long you are effectively AWOL. Another part was how jumpgates aren't charted and you will have to find them yourself if you want the ability to use them. (Reminded me of WH and exploration, but apparently it will require more than just scan and warp to etc)

He wants to bring back the space genre that seems to have died out in the past 10 years)

It's been too long since freelancer, freespace, wing commander, x-wing, wtc. The success of this title can only bolster the genre (which needs a big boost), and eventually EVE's player base.
