You do know wing commander (what that is based on hence the numerous references) came out in 1990s. Way before eve was even thought of. |

Or you could say it's a persistent world version of wing commander privateer. With enhancements made for modern technology. Either way, the trolls won't be happy unless they can troll, and those of us that have been around for long enough to remember games before cod and halo know that the game will be just as groundbreaking as the old version was back then.
But you made a very good point, people should go and read the website not just 5 min game play. ( I watched the 1 hour press release he did this morning) |

But still- it certainly seems like the same vision as EVE, just for a broader audience.
Well if we look at it from that broad an angle than eve is nothing but privateer just for online play. (Which at that time was not doable due to limits of technology. MMO's back then were text based and the internet was much slower than now).
This game is trying to combine what was good back then(kinematics immersive gameplay) with what is good now (persistent world's, player driven economy etc). It is a sandbox of sorts like eve that's true, but it's also trying to be realistic. An example he brought up was as a military pilot you can't just take off anywhere, since if yout are gone for long you are effectively AWOL. Another part was how jumpgates aren't charted and you will have to find them yourself if you want the ability to use them. (Reminded me of WH and exploration, but apparently it will require more than just scan and warp to etc)
