I don't mean to be rude but I think the game is currently in the shape it is due to "[BLANK] Will Kill This Game" authors. Sure, the graphics and hit detection are better but the dynamic of the entire game is a little screwed up with the new SP caps and dropsuit equaling. I think authors of "[BLANK] Will Kill This Game" posts are killing this game. That's just my opinion though. |

not because I get killed, I dont get killed often by them, maybe 1 time per match on the more open maps. the reason is that so many welps are doing it and ruining the match. isnt it great when you rush an objective just to realize that most of your teammates are scattered around the map, camping on some hills and doing NOTHING...
Then join a corp. That's the whole point of this game. Playing with randoms, snipers or not, isn't going to result in any kind of teamplay (usually).
What we're playing right now is high sec stuff. Random matches as a quickplay option. Now that corp v corp is starting, the matches will be more serious, and eventually mean something. Don't judge the game on playing with randoms. That's just silly. |

Go back to COD my friend because this is going to happen. Like everyone else has said, don't be in the open.
I don't see the purpose in having snipers in COD in the first place...the maps are too small for that. |

I'm Not Moejoe wrote:Seriously. Snipers in COD are even less annoying then Dust's snipers. We're playing on a barren wasteland with next to no cover and using weapons that are completely useless past medium range so that we can't actually fire back at these people. Come on, it's the 1 anti-infantry weapon that's worth using besides assault rifles.
And what places don't have cover? Almost everywhere has rocks, buildings, or some other structure that you can take cover behind. Unless you're a complete idiot and like to run through the wide open spaces without so much as an LAV. |

Ok so snipers are annoying, they sit in the hills and shoot you. On the other hand heavey's are also a pain if you run In to them, you just have to learn tactics to deal with them. |

I dodge most snipers as a heavy. Most arent that good, honestly. keep your eyes sharp and call them out to your squad as you see them. |

are you looking for honor in a game about shooting people set in the universe where it is expected that players stab each other in the back?
I wouldn't expect honor. I expect a remote charge on the objectives and to get killed by someone who has the chance to take me out before i even know they are there. |

The point is sniping is undoubtedly the easiest way to rack kills with very little risk while every other class takes a large risk |

Very few have the skill (that I've seen anyway) to require I post being made saying they will kill the game.... It's called be aware of your surroundings and adjust accordingly. If you sit still of course you are gonna catch a bullet. Stay on the move and stay aware of your surroundings. Most snipers I've encountered don't hit very well when you are on the move. So if you notice you are taking fire from somewhere let your team know and try to eliminate the threat, whether alone or with teammates. And honestly most of the time the snipers I've seen are just like annoying flies not really making much of a difference so no need to sweat them. Seriously if you are having that much of a problem may be time to rethink your choice of games or genre all together. Would you rather keep that minor nuisance following you around like a fly that won't leave you alone...or would you rather have this nuisance removed completely? I'd rather keep it. If you remove snipers, then you may as well remove everything except Assault Suits and the AR and call it a day. of all the things wrong with Dust 514, you being personally mad at snipers is not even on the list. I know many people who share my same feelings on almost every issue I present on these forums. The thing is most of them gave up on this game a long time ago.
The obvious conclusion then is that you should too.

Thread has purpose. Game is rough when a sniper behind the red line can snipe and defend a letter. Give me smoke nades and all is good. I came across a very good sniper and he stayed behind the red line in the mountains all game. Counter sniping would not work because I have low levels... he would get hit and back up and recharge shields. He went 21 and 1...I used an orbital to kill him. He does not win games but the sniper kept our attention for quite a while.

Skimmed through this, noticed a few "Boost the AR's Range" posts.
I would like to remind everyone: The Assault Rifle is a BLASTER, Snipers are RAILGUNS. One goes best with CQC/Med, The other goes best with Long.
I'm interested though on whether or not the fancy-schmanzy Gauss Rifle seen on YT will ever make it's way into actual combat. (The Gauss is a Caldari/AR, presumably working on /Hybrid.) |

My point is that I'm fine with that. The point of the sniper is to disrupt enemy infantry operations from a distance and it is doing just that.stay out of the open and keep an eye out for the little red chevrons in the hills and put an object between you and them.
I really like the idea of a smoke grenade. it can give you a way to take an objective without alot of people raining fire on you, and it would work just as well against other weapons in other situations so we get a new tactic instead of just tweaking existing weapons.
and best part is that it doesn't invoke the dreaded nerfhammer that ccp dropped on repair tools.
and come on, man, you're STB. there's a bunch of you and at least one of them is a sniper so squad up so they can give you cover. the game is more fun in a balanced squad. |

Me, I'd be okay with sniper rounds having slower flight speeds. We're using railguns right now, so at the ranges we're engaging at right now I don't see any real need for bullet drop, but a sniper should have to lead their shots if they're up on a mountain across the map from said targets. Snipers are bad enough in Planetside 2 and that game has stupidly massive bullet drop and bullets that fly about as fast as rocks. |

Depends on the map
They are maps which are more open such as the 3pt map
But sometimes the smaller 5pt and 4pt maps have lots of cover in general and can only cover certain areas while they are ther, they have to move about or risk getting sniped or caught
Plus if the AR can reach a snipers position 500m away then why dont we all use AR instead its easier |

I'm Not Moejoe wrote:Tyrius Madison wrote:I'm Not Moejoe wrote:Anyways the main issue here is that there is no way to counter a sniper unless you want to waste manpower by having your own snipers (face it, in the grand scheme of things having players hide in the hills in the back of the map picking off a random player every minute or so instead of getting in the action and helping capture objectives is and always will be detrimental to your ability to win). All weapons need a significant range increase and there should bullet indicators that tell you from which direction you're being shot at from even if you're not getting hit.
The fact that we're playing on barren deserts does not help either. the counter to a sniper is a Infiltrator/Assassin. which does not exist yet because there is no cloaking. wait till we get cloaking. Snipers will die. Nova Knife in the back. painfully. and no, weapons do not need a range increase. then we'd all be snipers. Snipers are fine as they are, and this is coming from someone who doesn't snipe. Yep. Your magical ninjas will sure love to be spending their time running a kilometer across desert just to knife a lone camper in the hills in the back. They will definitely be the ultimate counter to snipers.
What's very funny about that comment of yours is that I just so happen to be that kind magical ninja with a knife that is willing to do just that in practically every match.

Snipers themselves aren't an issue. Dust has to have a diversity of useful weapons. Because of the recent surge of AR users (A story for another day), people are just moving out of the assault rifle's range.
Fair enough.
As I see it, the problem is three-fold (at least in skirmish): 1) We can no longer spawn at hacked control nodes. Once a node is captured, players have to go through No-Man's land to get to the next objective. On the wasteland map (Where B is located on a building on a hill), the cover is designed to protect infantry trying to rush the hill towards A. Players rushing the hill are in range to hit guys on the hill even if they have bad positioning. The cover is not designed to protect infantry snipers. This problem is further highlighted if you try to run from A to B, or to the supply depot. There is almost no safe way to do this. The temporary and current solution to this is to travel extremelyslowly to whatever objective you're trying to reach, which is really annoying. 2) The new red zones surround sniper territory - high mountains that are already difficult to reach. With the addition of a 20 second timer to get to the sniper's spot kill him and get out, most people are unable or unwilling to chase a single sniper. 3) There is a lack of directional indicators for bullets. I understand people saying that CCP shouldn't "hold our hands" in FPS gaming so to speak. Snipers sitting 1000m or so away work the same way the spawn camping worked two builds ago: Getting shot with no idea who's shooting or where the bullets are coming from. I think that this is the main annoyance that snipers cause.
As a side note, if we do get smoke grenades or something like that, they would need to cover the objective symbol from enemies or else it won't give any help against snipers. If they can see the A, then they can just move their sights an inch to the left to where the hacker would be and kill him/her anyway.
