One of the reasons I like Dust is its built in anti-idiot feature.
I run a logi fitting that costs about 45,000 ISK a suit. So that means I have to be very intelligent about how I play. 4 deaths means I probably am losing money. However, I am decent at the game so it usually isn't a problem. However, people who run expensive fits and die all the time because they are Edited, will go broke quickly.
Being broke --> militia fits ---> quit
The only problem is that camping Edited will still be around, but at least the people who are constantly dead will be gone. |

Why would you quit because you're in militia or starter fits? It makes no sense |

I wish my ds had an anti idiot feature. Had a gunner who wouldn't get out and was being absolutely crap, my squadmate couldn't fire because the ******* had taken the seat for himself, he then proceeded to AFK for the rest of the map.. so I flew my Eryx into a mountain after we jumped out. Prick. |

I whole-heartedly disagree. A smaller, dedicated player-base is much more interesting to play against.
If you hate playing good people, then I can see where you are coming from. However, I don't see the appeal in beating up on people who are worse than you. I like my wins to be earned, not handed to me on a noob platter. |

They're going to let people transfer money from their EVE accounts? This game is ruined. |

Not in the slightest. Either you'll be in carebear land (high sec) where having loads and loads of funds will likely not be as important, or you'll be in Null / low, where you NEED loads and loads of resources.

Well it makes sense that if your a Corp and have enough money to buy everyone, say, Prototype Suits, I say, why not? It'll be important for Corp Battles where a difference in gear could give you that slight advantage you need. |

sorry but for this game to succeed it cant be like MAG this game needs a large playerbase
while i enjoy playing against good competition the longevity of the game depends on maintaining a decent playerbase whats the point of having what 7000 planets if u have 2000 ppl playin?
there will be gladiator arenas an such for competitive modes and play which is one of the things im most looking forward to |

DUST will need a (relatively) large player base to succeed and last, hence the F2P aspect, CCP want as many casuals in as possible, like the above post stated there are a TON of planets to fight over (obviously battles wont happen on all of them at once), but if we only had a tenth of the player base CCP are hoping for (even if they were dedicated) the game would be really slow. I couldnt guess exact numbers, but contracts from EVE players would take ages to be completed, due to lack of EVE mercs (no matter how dedicated) and eventually people would just stop using DUST'ers all together. |

What are you guys talking about? Small player base pfft. Do you know how many people were awarded 1M SP for participating in the last event? Over 41,000 players. That's over 41,000 players who logged in during a 1 hour interval on a closed beta with a crap build.
Now think how many there will be on release and in the first year alone.
PS, I have these numbers from a conversation on IRC. They are sound. |

It doesn't have many subscribers. Over 400,000 as of March this year. That's quite low. But its subscribers are pretty loyal I guess, so what it lacks in broad appeal it makes up for in really being attractive to a certain niche of players.
Anyway, to the topic at hand, gloating over the game being unforgiving and inaccessible is stupid. CCP should not make that a hallmark of theirs. EVE's opacity is a mistake. A major flaw in the game. Dust should be appealing to people whether they're good at FPS games or not. That doesn't mean sacrificing core principles, but it does mean creating stuff like "beginner servers" or whatever you'd call it, so that new players are not overwhelmed and dominated until they quit the game. |

Ontopic: Militia fits are no reason to quit. I played 5 matches this evening with nothing but militia gear and averaged a kdr of 3. That's with 6 million SP, 2 mil. of which I got from events. To be honest I think most of my victories in 1-on-1 situations are actually due to my understanding of/experience with the effects of lag, which makes me sad.
Offtopic: Eve doesn't appear very difficult at all. When I messed about with it the tutorials really held my hand for a whole 2 week period. I guess Eve's reputation from earlier days is just hard to get rid of. Right now Dust is much tougher to understand in comparison. |

I ran the two previous builds in pure militia gear, just to get some real skills in despite facing CreoDon assault rifles and what not.
Highly recommended.

It's much easier to get started, still not much easier to get good / find a niche. |

You can't compare subscriber numbers for MMOs to WoW because it has far more than any MMO past or present. EVE has been steadily growing for about ten years and for a non-WoW MMO has a decent number of subscribers. |

Yea, I guess militia fits aren't as bad as I was implying, once the proper skills are upgraded of course. Still, a militia fit doesn't compare very well to an advanced fit and if a player has lost all their money dying in advanced fits, the militia fit won't do them a lot of good.

I never compared it to WoW. But even compared to SWTOR, it's low. Warhammer Online had more during its peak. Rift. Age of Conan. LOTRO. Lineage. Aion. Etc.
Don't get me wrong, I like EVE more than any of those other games. But acting like the game being apathetic to the plight of new or relatively unskilled players is a good thing is silly. EVE has succeeded in spite of these aspects. CCP has attempted to mitigate it over the years, and continues to do so, but low subscriber amounts because the game actively pushes players aware hurts everyone. I don't think Dust is really guilty of this, personally, but if it is or ever becomes that way, it'd be a problem to be fixed ASAP. |
