I waited months and months for this game and jumped immediately when the beta became available for $20 just to get a glimpse of what Dust might be. I gotta say, if it's gonna be anything similar to this, I'm terribly disappointed!
I got in the beta a couple months ago and was disappointed then. People in this forum kept telling me it would improve...well...it hasn't! They said that build was just bad...well....this one is too! In fact, I really see no improvements or changes from 2 months ago. I said back then that the beta we were playing would be basically the same game we would be playing and I still think that's true.
For all the time they had to plan and build this thing they sure have farted on it. At it's very most this could be considered a low grade-shooter worthy of being a $4.99 DLC that gets played for a week tops. I just see no possible way for them to make any money on this garbage.
Regardless of minor changes that will be made between now and release, this is the core game that wil be released, and it's just really pathetic!
I wish I could get my $20 back! |

So...that's actually a pretty nice compliment -- for a work in progress.
I'm enjoying trying out lots of different things to see what's working & what isn't. Finally figured out how to fly the drop ships -- used a stationed rail gun to take out a sniper's dropship on top of a structure, then spent the rest of the match stopping him from sniping any more of my teammates. It was great maneuverability training. Almost got a squish
If there is something you'd like to see improved on I'd recommend dropping into the bugs or feedback section & bringing it up. The devs have done a good job of listening to everyone. |

This is an actual beta in that significant progress is still being made in the game as testing continues. Many "betas" - as you mention - exist basically to test the network and tighten up any last few bugs. This is not that kind of beta.
Quote:In fact, I really see no improvements or changes from 2 months ago.
Mmhmm...
Numerous balancing alterations (AV/Vehicle, Installations, etc.). Significant graphical improvement. Vastly faster UI/Menu navigation. Completely different battle joining mechanism. Squads; the ability to play with a group of three other selected players. Significant weapon variations and salvage.
So if you are seeing "no improvements or changes" you appear be completely unaware of gameplay mechanics, blind or lacking much in the way of visual acuity, unaware of the passage of time, and playing completely solo without once entering a battle, finishing a battle, or viewing the market. Which would make me wonder how you are playing this game...

And people keep saying the core game, what does that mean? Concept, graphics, controls, hit detection or any number of other things. For me the core game is the long run, the integration with eve. Even the market possibilities are enough to get me excited. For me the "core game" is just basically the feel of it. Does it draw me in and make me feel like part of the action? This game fails! All the controls are sloppy to the point of ridiculousness, they've made a joke of the Unreal engine, vision is horrible....nothing at all about the game lets me feel like I'm in a battle. It's just poor execution is all.
In their effort to make an MMO, they forgot to make a shooter (which was the promise). It just doesn't play like a decent shooter in any way.
As I said, I've been in many betas and in every one of them the release ended up just like the beta aside from some minor adjustments to physics, graphics, response, etc. The "feel" of the game is always the same as the beta. I can't exactly describe what I mean by "feel" but it's that thing that draws you into a game and gives you the feeling like you're actually part of it. Like when you get shot and you actually jump in your seat, or when you're in a firefight and your heart is really racing because you don't want to die. This beta lacks that completely! Playing it feels detached from the action, like playing a browser game where you're going through all of the actions and doing the thing but it's just something you're doing and not something you're a part of.
I hope that helps. For me it's just difficult to explain my meaning, but a game must make me feel like what I'm doing matters and I don't see it happening with this one....ever! Maybe some of you people do feel like this game is exciting...for me it's just blah. Playing is like going through the motions but not really feeling anything....like having sex while drunk....you're doing all the stuff but you just aren't connected to it.

I guess to each his own. If you guys are happy with what you're playing then whatever. I just expected so much more. It's just not at all anything I could get excited about. No adrenaline rush, no feeling of fear that I'm gonna die so I better get to cover soon, no feeling of immediacy to do anything...it's just going through the actions without any reward.
Enjoy!
I tried it 2 months ago and was told then that it would get better. Aside from the changes you all say have been made, it's still just a boring pile of sh** IMO. If it's free to play on release then I might give it a shot then to see if it's any better like you all seem to think it will be. If it's not free then I'll just chalk it up to another disappointment that I had high hopes for. No biggie! After all, it's only a friggin game, there's thousands of others to choose from. |

Oh crap! Half an hour of typing was with that last quote and it's all lost. What a waste of time!
I won't go through it all again, just let me say a couple things and I'll let you all have it until release.
Right now this thing is boring! No, I wasn't here before E3 so I don't know how many changes have been done since then....don't care either. It was boring 2 months ago and it's still boring. If they don't start focusing on the shooter aspect of it soon then it's going to stay boring. Plus....it's not going to make any money! They're selling it as an MMO shooter but so far all I see is an MMO with lame shooter aspects added on as a side note.
It doesn't matter how much work they've done on it or will do on it. If they don't do the RIGHT work on it then it's gonna be a flop. Maybe you all can offer the right feedback to make it into something worth playing....maybe you can't, we'll see!
Telling others who have a disgreeable opinion to yours to leave isn't going to make this thing any better. It's exactly those people who the developers need to hear because they (we) will be the deciding factor whether it makes any money or not.
Sitting back and telling others that this is beta and it will be better at release isn't going to make it so!
Trying to convince people that find it boring into thinking it's really good isn't going to make it so.
I see no way to make this thing into a decent game at this point. Maybe I'll be proven wrong...I hope I am because I had highhopes of a long term investment in this game. Right now (and for the past 2 months) I find it boring, despite any changes they've made in the past 2 months, it's still boring! Like I said...all the work in the world won't make it a good game, it must be the RIGHT work.
One downside to long betas is that people have plenty of time to get bored with them and leave before the game even releases. I've seen it happen several times! Unless they start doing something to make this thing enjoyable and exciting, they won't have to worry about release because many would be players will have already decided it's crap.
Much work needs done in order to make this game exciting and enjoyable....it's about time they started doing that work!
If you disgree and think this is a great beta then that's OK by me. I had hoped for more excitement. Hopefully it's free to play so I get another chance to try it after release to see how much better you all helped them make it. As for what I've seen over 2 months of work on it I'm just a little less than confident that it's going to be an enjoyable game on release and aside from some really rave reviews from trusted friends, I wouldn't bother spending anything on it...and I'm not the only one! |

Barring a major change of plans, it will be a free to play game.
And, like EVE, it will grow significantly over time.
Some people like that. They like to invest in a universe, in a character, that will last - we'll, EVE is closing in on a decade now. Other people want a quick fix that'll last for a little while before getting the next quick fix of similar gameplay.
See: Battlefield 1942, The Road to Rome, Secret Weapons of WWII, Battlefield 2, Special Forces, Euro Force, Armored Fury, Battlefield 3 Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, Battlefield 2142, Northern Strike. Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, Battlefield: Bad Company 2.
See Also: Call of Duty, United Offensive, Finest Hour, Call of Duty 2, Big Red One, Call of Duty 3 Roads to Victory, Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2, Mobilized, Modern Warfare 3, Defiance, World at War, Final Fronts, Black Ops, Zombies, Declassified, Black Ops II.
Nothing wrong with either - there are plenty of options. DUST is a new and different choice. |

The gun game, graphics, and other things are not as tight as they should be. Will CCP keep adding animations and make the environments better before release? I sure hope so. As of now dust will fail if it is released or it won't succeed highly. If CCP were smart they won't release the game till the spring. Keep working on it until everything is integrated and it shocks people with how smooth the game is. How deep the mechanics are. And how tight the gun play is.

Regardless of minor changes that will be made between now and release, this is the core game that wil be released, and it's just really pathetic!
I wish I could get my $20 back! well your falt for paying $20 when in ps home you can get beta for free or singed up for beta on website dust514.com and gotten it for free that way to |

It's threads like these that makes me look at ccp and say "see, you should have kept it properly closed beta from idiots like this" now this is the kind of guy who considers "I can play this game therefore it's released" and I'm pretty sure a lot of gamers out there are like that.
the annoying thing is that it taints public perspective on the game, he will tell his friends who haven't played it how **** the game is, they will lose interest.
I would say I'm glad because I don't like your kind of gamer in this beta, but your friends may not be like you and it's gonna be a shame not getting to kill them - maybe they'll have common sense and not listen to you. |

^^^ As for "tainting public perspective" CCP also invited journalist in the beta for previews. I think they did it for a reason and not because they thought it was inappropriate to do it. |

I dropped $20 on the merc pack AFTER joining the BETA for a FREE TO PLAY game, and I consider it money well spent if I can contribute to making a game I believe in, even better. That's what, 4 cups of coffee from Starbucks? I'll just use a coffee maker.
As for the game, I agree that I'm disappointed in the gunplay mechanic. Graphics, textures, and everything else are actually better than I expected. That's because textures, layers, and the finishing graphics are all window dressing, require massive amounts of time to render, and are typically the last things to be applied before official release. Trust me, you don't want a fully rendered game that has massive bugs. If you had it, you would have quit 1 month and 3 1/2 weeks ago.
The main issue with the game, it's the gunplay mechanic and interaction. I agree that it needs MAJOR work before release, and I'm interested to see what the new build does to improve upon it. The COD franchise (I can't comment on BF3 or Killzone as I haven't played them) has a great gunplay mechanic. I'm not referring to the structure or content of the game, but the weapons fire tracking, transition from hip fire to ADS, ADS itself, and movement while in ADS. Gun handling, itself.
That's the main thing I see here that needs work, and I would be interested in hearing how BF3 and Killzone's gunplay mechanic are different from COD. I also can't wait for the new build to see if they heard the cries from these forums.
As for the BF3 "open beta" that was released, I played it and that was not a beta in my book. As was mentioned before, it felt more like a glorified demo made to look like a beta.
As a side-note, posting in the BETA forum saying you're leaving is nothing more than an attempt to garner attention, in my opinion. You are not the first, nor will you be the last to exit stage left. I, for one, have no problem playing multiple games at once, and I relish the thought of helping to put another quality game on the market for others to enjoy.

Major Assitch wrote:...Right now this thing is boring! ... It was boring 2 months ago and it's still boring. If they don't start focusing on the shooter aspect of it soon then it's going to stay boring.
Can you elaborate on what about the game you find boring?
What shooter aspects are you referring to? There are many.
Major Assitch wrote: Telling others who have a disgreeable opinion to yours to leave isn't going to make this thing any better. It's exactly those people who the developers need to hear because they (we) will be the deciding factor whether it makes any money or not.
Fair enough. But it would be extremely more useful to explain what you find wrong with the game than simply stating "It's boring.". They looking for CONSTRUCTIVE criticism here. Not just criticism.
Major Assitch wrote: I see no way to make this thing into a decent game at this point.
Why not? Just express what you think should be done to improve things.
Major Assitch wrote: Much work needs done in order to make this game exciting and enjoyable....it's about time they started doing that work!
Such as..... ? (still waiting to hear constructive criticism here)
Major Assitch wrote: As for what I've seen over 2 months of work on it I'm just a little less than confident that it's going to be an enjoyable game on release and aside from some really rave reviews from trusted friends, I wouldn't bother spending anything on it...and I'm not the only one!
And we still don't understand WHY you think it will not be enjoyable. What do you find enjoyable in other games that you're not experiencing here?
If you're able to answer any of the above questions, then THAT is the type of feedback that CCP is asking for.

They've ganked me for enough cash already, don't think I'll fall for the old "it's a beta, it'll be better at release" line. And...yes! I am dissatisfied with an incomplete game because aside from a complete trashing and rebuilding from the bottom up, I see no way to redeem this disaster! Sorry bud, the "you don't know nuthin, this is only beta" doesn't work on me. I've seen way too many of them and know exactly how they all turn out.
Lol. Well were they as complex as Dust is and will be? I argued in another thread that it's easy to understand but complex overall. They're trying to bind it together with a balanced system. And yeah, from what you're saying this and the betas you have been to were two completely different things. In the last few weeks one patch has changed the community's stance and how battles were played. One patch. The next build will be bringing in more stuff.
Seriously. The Starhawk Beta barely did anything in game except give us new equipment and fix a couple of lag issues. In this Beta they are gradually giving to us more and more while fixing the current problems.
I feel for your twenty dollars but it's a beta that needs a lotta fixing bro. So far the game has been fun for me even with such limited (comparing it to what's has been confirmed to be in store), and broken areas.... |

Funny that a lot of people don't understand that dust beta...ccp is basically using gamers for free, instead of paying testers. They had a single map a couple guns, and a few other bits...and said "screw it let's open a beta and not pay testers!".extremely rough and is going to get vastly improved :).
And this isn't COD any more than eve is WOW lol. |
