Cross Atu Conspiratus Immortalis 775	Posted - 2012.09.17 21:57:00 - [4] - Quote AUR pretty much allows you to use gear of a tier higher while you are getting your skills trained to use the ISK version (remember many skills have benefits beyond unlocking gear so ISK Gear + Skills > AUR gear sans Skills) However beta being beta there are still a few broken things, as noted above. Conclusion, not pay to win (tho there are QQ'ers who still want to claim it is)

AUR allows you to use items you will get in the future at a lower level, the thunkker grenades everyone whines about are nothing, I've never even been killed by one, and AUR dropsuits are purely aesthetic. If you want to spend money to do these things, I would say that makes this game more like P2LM.(pay to lose money)

Buzzwords Deadly Blue Dots RISE of LEGION 416	Posted - 2012.09.17 22:32:00 - [8] - Quote hopnestly, ccp has been pretty good with it. the majority of aurum items have been "shortcut" items. as in EXACTLY identical to an isk item, you just don't need as many skillpoints to use it. they do give a headstart, but they also let a latecomer compete. a man with a blindfire is at absolutely no advantage against a man with a GEK-38. if anything the man with the isk GEK is at a slight advantage because the skills the aurum lets you get around, have small nested bonus' there have been the occasional "hey hey ccp, wtf is this?!" where an aurum item blatently destroys an isk equivalent, but it's pretty clearly been mistakes, as ccp has quickly pulled those items from the market. the only issues i can see at the moment are the thukker grenades, and the reduced fitting requirement aurum items. the thukker is aurum, and is the only grenade of it's type on the market. problem. how big a problem is open to interpretation. as for the reduced fitting requirement items, some argue that they allow fits that would otherwise not be possible. i'm sure this is partially true, but an isk only player might be able to upgrade his suit to fit more stuff. so spending 9 aurum on a rifle with reduced fitting requirements, saves you 100K isk by not needing a higher tier suit to FIT the isk rifle. it's a tough line to walk, the aurum has to give some benefit or why should ccp bother? but too much so and people quit. all i can say is play it a bit, see how you feel about it.

Yes at first it does feel like there is an advantage to get AUR items, but once you get into it you will see that it is still pretty balanced out. I would like to say that ccp did a very good job with the balance of AUR to ISK items in this game it is one of the best balances I have seen with buyable items.

Also, there are going to be Passive skill boosters to allow people without as much time to play to keep up with the Active booster users, and they're still tweaking the passive income in any case.

Most o the true P2W items items have been removed in a hotfix for now, as they also provided a near 50% reduction in CPU/PG requirements, meaning you could use those to build far stronger fittings, there are still a ferw of those around though. The odd ones out are the suits, there are NO stats differences between the ISK and AUR variant, not even a reduced skill requirement. The AUR just allows you to get different colours, or in my case, allows you to afford a suit in the first place or saving up for the next tank.
