The charge rifle is the best rifle in the game. Most damage, lowest CPU/PG cost, lowest ISK cost.

Play a game and shoot someone or something as far away from you as possible. See how long it takes before your shot does damage to the target. Spoiler: It's zero seconds. I guess if you're lagging or something you may need to compensate -- I've never experienced that myself though -- but the shots the rifle fires are instantaneous. You can easily test it, and if you've ever shot someone (like another sniper) at long range you'd realize that they die or at least take damage the instant you pull the trigger. |

That there isn't a delay?
As Jin said, there is a need to lead your aim on a moving target. Although the impact of the rifle's projectile might be instantaneous in this game, there is still the delay in reaction time you need to account for ![Blink](https://forums.dust514.com/Images/Emoticons/ccp_blink.png) |

As it stands the shot hits instantly. There is no need to lead your target unless you or your target are experiencing lag(or as mentioned your reaction time isn't perfect). |

as for leading your target and the bullets being instant your both right, the time it takes you to procces it, press the button and shoot they have moved a few inchs just enough to mess up your target.
so yeah the shots are instant, human eyes to brain to finger to controller isnt, better to lead a small amount just enough to compensate for this. |

SiKNytmre wrote:I am making this thread because from the little i have played, sniping so far has been the hardest role to fill in this game. The purpose of this thread is a place where tips and tricks can be talked about and things can be picked up by new guys like me Tips can range from tips on how to play better, to fittings used on the different armors, anything really that you think would help someone else.
Got thoughts?
1. Lower your field of Fire. 2. Lower your Field of Fire 3. Lower your Field of Fire.
the keep to sniping is not to be in a place where you can see everything, but to be in a place where you can only see between 15-45 degrees. Normally you can only see 90 degrees, when scoped in, you can see even less, so reducing your field of fire is the most critical thing you can do.
When in doubt, always avoid dying over getting a kill. What people tend to forget about KDR is that having good KDR is not about getting lots of kills, it's about dying as little as possible. If you want a KDR of 10/1 it's much more important to not die that to get any given kill, specifically, 10 times more important. So be cautious. If you see an enemy sniper and you take the shot, and either because of lag or bad hit detection or whatever, you miss, cut bait. Don't continue to engage, find a new location and a new target. Don't locked in a mindset where you think, "The game cheated me of a kill, now I have to kill this guy to make up for it." More likely than not he's going to kill you. Above all don't spend more than 15 seconds on any given target before you reassess your surroundings. |

Regards
Drop suit is the armor your clone is wearing and is what allows you to use certain weapons, equipment, and modules. There are currently four types of dropsuits. They vary based on their slots, speed, armor, shielding, and so on. Check out Dropsuit Fitting in your NeoCom to make new dropsuit fits and customize existing ones.
Nano hive is a piece of equipment which restores your ammunition. A sniper should always have one, because restoring your own ammo is a huge perk. Without a nano hive, you will be forced to run to a supply structure to get more rounds for your rifle. That takes time and can easily result in your death. With a nano hive, you can hang out in your little sniper nest the entire game if you want to.
Avenger 245 wrote:so yeah the shots are instant, human eyes to brain to finger to controller isnt, better to lead a small amount just enough to compensate for this.
He asked for tips, not pedantic mutterings. Yes, thank you, "shoot them when they're under your crosshairs", great advice.

They go in you equipment slot and no they are not removable they will stay there until depleted or destroyed. Also don't place them on surfaces that are too sloped or else they will disappear and you will loose a nanohive. |

I have previously written my thoughts on snipers in another comment, so I ain't gonna write it all over., link is in the bottom of the post. As stated I'm only in the game for about 3 weeks myself, hence the N00b to N00b title (also explained in the post...).
As for 'leading' or 'straight on aim'... At times it is 'necessary' to lead, at times it isn't and will make you miss the target. Lag is the key factor here I think, since a non-moving target does get instantaneously killed/damaged. I'm still experimenting with this myself, so I can't give you a def. answer on this. My advice for now would be shoot once 'straight on', if you miss then 'lead' the target. Works for me at the moment, but as the other posts clearly display... there is NO 1 absolute answer to the question for now.
The 1 thing to remember: " move, take cover, check surroundings, crouch, aim, shoot, kill, get the frak out of there and move to another spot.... then start over. "
If you feel like it here is my previous, quite in dept post:

I'm fairly sure if they're lagging your shot will be robbed from you by hit detection. You can't tell if they're lagging until you shoot them and they don't die or take damage in my experience. Most shots I make I have to lead the target and it has gotten ridiculous at time when hitting scouts with speed module. Its hard to be exact but the most I've had to lead a target was 4 or 5 bodies ahead of them. Its also even worse when I'm on Asian or EU servers of course, even tho I have had some pretty stable servers on the EU servers. Lag is a factor that some players need to take into account and the fact that it is inconsistent is a *****. |

Don't try to hit moving targets, it's simple, wait for them to stop, they always do, take your time, be aware of who may be creeping up behind you. Carry an SMG as a support weapon, deploy drop uplinks to get your team where they need to be, hack stuff, retreat to a flanking position and provide *good* support to the rest of your team. forget kdr, just get the job done. It's called "Recon" for a reason, you're not a one man army. |
