Bad snipers fail to help their team in the same manner that a bad assault or a bad heavy will fail to help their team; they're bad. It doesn't really matter what suit or role they are trying (or not trying) to fill. Poor players will be preyed upon by skilled players, there's really no way around it. The proximity to objectives (which every seems to consider to be the only real measurable contribution a player can make to a battle) is only relevant in the moments during which a player is actively hacking a node. All other times, a bad player is as bad as anyone else regardless of role. Thus, isn't necessarily fair to pick on snipers in particular.
Regardless, please continue to stand still bad players, such that your head presents a clear target. |

also it's not helping your team if you don't go 16/4
also I usally only get like 8 kills a game being a sniper the whole time would drive me crazy, plus if someone gets nearby I'll switch out to something more close range, like the HMG. Think of the depot like your heavy has a sniper, an aR, a shotgun, an HMG, a swarm launcher.

I have no problem with players who jump in to the latest 'fad' in an attempt to raise their KDR. The usually make for easy kills, especially if they make up the whole team. |

I only use DS3 and I have been able to do pretty well as a sniper. You definitely have to spec into it for real quality sniping, though. And you have to use real sniping tactics if you are going to be good at it. |

I play as a sniper and find that I help my team in this role more than anything else.
In assault mode my K/D is always 5:1 which... last time I checked... is fabulous. In most situations I would assume that going 10/2, 15/2, 14/3 is a contribution to the team. But hey, I'm just being useless right?
Skirmish is a different story. I funnel people out of open areas and pick off idiots who try and mobilize on foot to capture points. You see those logistics guys reviving people that you spent your hard time killing? Yeah, I shoot them in the head on a regular basis.
Bad snipers are bad and do not help your team but please do not say that we're all poopy. Maybe you should say this instead, "Snipers that suck should not snipe."

There,
This. A sniper is a force multiplier. I don't run sniper all the time, but there are occassions where it makes sense. For example, last night I went 20-2 sniping the full match. At one point, a single teammate was protecting B (this was on plateaus map) and he had 3 hostiles moving in on him. He was trying to hold them back barely and would very quickly be overwhelmed. I took down all three. Force multiplier. |

if the snipers played as scouts and actually did their job in its entirety, which involves at least dropping uplinks, calling out enemy locations, and being on the objectives being hacked with a sniper rifle, that would be very beneficial to any team.
unfortunately a lot of snipes dont do this and end up just wasting a player slot on some hill outside the map.
if they can do it right, good snipers are a great asset. |

Scouts played as scouts should use drop uplinks, however Scouts used as snipers should not. This does nothing but advertise the location of the sniper, and if the sniper is a good one you don't want that to happen. The best perches take time to get to, and you will lose the target calling. And yes, snipers should serve as spotters for the rest of the team. You are dead on about that. Also, the best snipers should have visibility to at least one objective and a supply depot, or two objectives. If you don't have this, then you are in a bad perch. |

A good scout should have a nanohive as the sniper rifle typically carries only abut 25 rounds total. |

I don't know. I've been sniping a ton this build, been loving it, cleaning up plenty of targets. Generally, I try to find a good perch with some cover and drop the drop uplink nearby, behind a hill or something similar. If you've dropped it properly, no one's going to find your position short of coming up within radar range and potentially seeing it on the mini-map. Even then, most people who come after you in a good perch are only coming after you because they saw your blip on the over-map when you fired.
The drop uplink provides me with a quick way to get back to my sniper spot - most snipers after taking out a target move their scope elsewhere, assuming that you don't have a nearby uplink. It also acts as a semi-efficient method of getting my team another spawn, and in ambush games it can be immensely useful if the entire team is spawning in the same area, despite the fact that it's usually on the edge of the map or in some strange cranny somewhere.

Habitually, I'd go to a point just past the the start, away from my intended perch and toss one, helping to ensure the privacy of my chosen location.
Remember, Scanning units haven't been added to the game yet either. It's one of our intended purposes. But Idle hands are the Devil's Playground... and we have these lovely Long-barreled micro railguns....
Don't worry, more of us should be actually SCOUTING in the next build. |
