You're ok with mass snipers on your team so you must be ok with mass av because they're both a type of long range combat |

If it happens, it happens. Untill we get to null sec, ill let the noobs run around in w/e they want and laugh as they die like lemmings to better players.
Im not going to rage quit a situation due to unfavorable circumstance, granted if it becomes constantly mass snipers and mass AV then we might have a different conversation but its not that yet and CCP is working on HAVs.
If I know I have a ton of AV/sniper fit noobs on my team then this game is a practice game. Once we get to null sec war ill join you in the cry "GTFO of that fit noobs" but right now let them play in the mud while they can. |

I want to see pro's doing specialized stuff while noobs do scrub stuff(standard assault/cannon fodder) is it really so wrong to want the masses to well, act like the masses while the smarter/skilled of the bunch fufil specific roles |

unfortunately a lot of snipes dont do this and end up just wasting a player slot on some hill outside the map.
if they can do it right, good snipers are a great asset. Scouts played as scouts should use drop uplinks, however Scouts used as snipers should not. This does nothing but advertise the location of the sniper, and if the sniper is a good one you don't want that to happen. The best perches take time to get to, and you will lose the target calling. And yes, snipers should serve as spotters for the rest of the team. You are dead on about that. Also, the best snipers should have visibility to at least one objective and a supply depot, or two objectives. If you don't have this, then you are in a bad perch.
I don't know. I've been sniping a ton this build, been loving it, cleaning up plenty of targets. Generally, I try to find a good perch with some cover and drop the drop uplink nearby, behind a hill or something similar. If you've dropped it properly, no one's going to find your position short of coming up within radar range and potentially seeing it on the mini-map. Even then, most people who come after you in a good perch are only coming after you because they saw your blip on the over-map when you fired.
The drop uplink provides me with a quick way to get back to my sniper spot - most snipers after taking out a target move their scope elsewhere, assuming that you don't have a nearby uplink. It also acts as a semi-efficient method of getting my team another spawn, and in ambush games it can be immensely useful if the entire team is spawning in the same area, despite the fact that it's usually on the edge of the map or in some strange cranny somewhere.

In assault mode my K/D is always 5:1 which... last time I checked... is fabulous. In most situations I would assume that going 10/2, 15/2, 14/3 is a contribution to the team. But hey, I'm just being useless right?
Skirmish is a different story. I funnel people out of open areas and pick off idiots who try and mobilize on foot to capture points. You see those logistics guys reviving people that you spent your hard time killing? Yeah, I shoot them in the head on a regular basis.
Bad snipers are bad and do not help your team but please do not say that we're all poopy. Maybe you should say this instead, "Snipers that suck should not snipe."

When I had the SP to squeak the CPU through, I did in fact toss Uplinks. After wipe, I've been too obsessed with perfecting the Snipe to spend SP anywhere else.
Habitually, I'd go to a point just past the the start, away from my intended perch and toss one, helping to ensure the privacy of my chosen location.
Remember, Scanning units haven't been added to the game yet either. It's one of our intended purposes. But Idle hands are the Devil's Playground... and we have these lovely Long-barreled micro railguns....
Don't worry, more of us should be actually SCOUTING in the next build. |
