Decide what style of play you want and specialize in it. Don't spread your SP around all over what looks cool to get. Focus your skills and you will excel at whatever suit/vehicle you choose to work with. |

Well experiment with the diffrent classes, weopons and vehicles to se what u want to work with there should be a milita version of every weopon and though some are expensive there are militia vehicles. After finding ur nich role with it practice it train purely for it with little deviation. In time ull be able to pull some crazy **** with ur specialized fit and be able to match most veterans. |

Yeah. Stick with default Militia Dropsuit fittings for now as you won't be losing money. When you get in game, check to see if there are clusters of team mates and try to keep with them. Follow and keep up with Assault fitting if you enjoy face to face shooting. If you prefer to just run around the map trying to capture objectives, turrets, etc., then try the default Scout/Sniper fitting as you will have more speed (less HP). Run along the side lines to try to avoid enemy attention. Pay attention to your mini map in the corner, and if you see a red dot nearby, or a red chevron on the horizon, avoid it while en route to target. If I see everyone's in a free for all, then I'll switch to my scout gear and sprint objective to objective capturing what I can, cuz, well, the team is all over the place. If they seem to be organized, I'll go with assault gear.
Regarding skills: Keep them for now until you find a style you like most. It takes time to earn Skill Points and once you spend them you can't trade them back. You will have to earn more through team objectives and kills. Once you have an idea, and have learned a bit about the weaponry options and dropsuit modules, your skill points will sorta fall into place. For example, I first trained for sniper rifle use, then realized most of the games were tight small maps. Here, those skills are kinda wasted. I later switched over to Assault suits, using sub-machine guns (SMG). I liked this idea, but to use an SMG I had to train up for it with the appropriate skills for that weapon, powergrid (PG) use or whatever. My kills were growing, but I would still die frequently. So I trained Shield Upgrades to get access to Shield Extenders and/or Regenerators. Eventually I decided to stick with Assault and invest skills into an Assault Dropsuit - II. I still die but gameplay has become much more enjoyable as I do last longer in one-on-one or one-on-two/three skirmishes. At the moment, I have a fitting for scout suit with sniper/SMG weaponry, and an assault II suit with dual SMGs. I am currently investing into shield skills to booth my shield regeneration and amounts. With these skills I am comfortable that I can survive a few attacks on enemy objectives, especially if one or two others are nearby, and I can switch out to scout to quickly circle behind enemy lines to recapture for the team.
My point is, if you dump skills into ...armor repair, then later decide the suit you like specializes in shields, then those armor skills are useless unless you go another setup. If you drop skills into heavy suit fittings then decide you like scout/sniping, same thing. Once you get a solid fitting beyond the default Militia gear, earning points is much easier and allows you more room to play around with other fits and skill trees. If you scatter all your points around earlier on without at least trying to specialize somewhat, then you may end up with a lot of skills that aren't really helping with what you may decide you like after the fact.
It's late. I'm rambling. I hope that helps a bit.
good luck!

Clone Number 1 wrote:Spec into tanks as soon as possible. Don't worry about any other skills they won't matter. Wow, you're really helpful, aren't you? Why don't you try using AV grenades, which are pretty damn cheap, can be used with starting skills, and now freaking seek their targets? Really, that's all you have to do.
But of course, that's suggesting that you have to plan ahead based on what the other team might bring out, and having to think about your loadouts is bad game design. |

Not really, many of the vets are running around in inexpensive standard or militia fits just save cash for better weapons, skill books and stuff. Just did a 17/3 round with the Merc pack Scout-suit, SMG and Shotgun which are all standard level for as far as I can tell (one tier above militia).
Just try to keep on your weapons preferable range and you should do well. Assault rifle is inferior against SMG and Shotgun on close range, but deadly from medium range. If you are one who prefers accuracy over spraying and trailing then tactical Assault rifle is for you. If you like close and personal then scout-suit or heavy suit with SMG/Shotgun can be pretty deadly combination.
or you could just specs on Tanks like someone suggested. |

Spec tanks. Once you get to 6-10 mil SP you'll lose a tank every 5 games or so. Because you'll be bored of owning. I'm just using militia tanks with militia fit and they average 1-2 games. Easy profit, KDR and SP.
Ignore mobious. He seems to think tanks are balanced. LoL. Militia large railgun is enough to kill any militia suit with splash damage. 2 splash hits for heavies.
Spec tanks, but be prepared for a Nerf. |

This might be overly generic advice but thought it worth mentioning anyway because I'm seeing a lot of people in the game who are doing the wrong things at a fundamental level.
For solo play:
Use the right tool for the job - Ensure you've a flexible fitting on your suit where possible and use it to maximum effect. Don't attempt to fight in CQC with your AR if you've a SMG at hand it just performs better at that role. It's viable to sacrifice flexibility for a very pointed fit (see SG+SMG scout) but don't go trying to force it into working in every scenario, play to its strengths.
Don't fight on their terms - If you see someone yielding a SG keep your distance. If you've got a SMG and them an AR don't start spraying bullets until they're close enough for you to have the advantage. If they haven't noticed you you don't need to draw their attention to you by opening up on them prematurely.
Use the minimap - Get into the habit of glancing at this to see where friendlies and hostiles are and how you can use it to your advantage. Fighting someone with their back turned to you is preferable to fighting one who gets line of sight on you the same time you do on them. This matters so much more than a lot of the other advice here, position, like in most FPS, is king.
Fox people - Deceive others through action or inaction. If you see someone closing on you via mini-map or at the edge of your vision sometimes it's better not to turn and start fighting then but instead to get into cover without telegraphing to them that it's a measure to counter them and prepare to take them on your own terms.
Cover - Use it while reloading, use it while changing weapons, use it while cooking a grenade, use it to shape how many opponents you'll face at any one point in time. If you leave yourself out in the open you're limiting your options when the fighting starts. It's not only useful for avoiding damage but also hiding from your opposition what you're planning to do next. If you're going to get swamped in reds don't wait until they're all on top of you press on in one direction around the cover you may be lucky enough to run into the side they sent fewer people around.
Ammo - Always reload when you have the opportunity, do this for both weapons. If in a fight and both of you have to reload consider switching to your other weapon if its fit for the fight you're in before reloading the one you're holding. Keep track of how much ammo you expect who you are fighting to have, press them when they've to reload if you're in a good condition.
For group play:
Stick close.
Try and run suits and fits that compliment the others in your group. A scout fit for close range can compliment just about any other mobile suit fairly well if the map gives enough cover to flank. A logistics with a rep tool teamed with a heavy makes for a nasty meat grinder particularly in enclosed environments. A pair of AV fit suits can surprise tanks if used in concert.
If you got a mic use it - keep friendlies posted on where vehicles are, where groups of enemies are, the state of capture points, if they're about to walk into what looks like a trap from your point of view. |

Say what? Weighing options to make a calculated decision is bad design you say? So by that same logic chess is a poorly designed game, enlighten me because that comment made no sense. |

Create a heavy suit fit with sniper rifle (not charge, they suck to shoot with) and SMG.
After some practice you'll be dropping people like flies at distance and have decent defence with the SMG. |

@ Virex - when you're holding it ready to throw so the fuse is shorter than if you'd just thrown it outright. You can make them detonate quickly after being thrown this way giving your opponent less time to evade or to make them detonate in the air over/behind cover. |
