This might be overly generic advice but thought it worth mentioning anyway because I'm seeing a lot of people in the game who are doing the wrong things at a fundamental level.
For solo play:
Use the right tool for the job - Ensure you've a flexible fitting on your suit where possible and use it to maximum effect. Don't attempt to fight in CQC with your AR if you've a SMG at hand it just performs better at that role. It's viable to sacrifice flexibility for a very pointed fit (see SG+SMG scout) but don't go trying to force it into working in every scenario, play to its strengths.
Don't fight on their terms - If you see someone yielding a SG keep your distance. If you've got a SMG and them an AR don't start spraying bullets until they're close enough for you to have the advantage. If they haven't noticed you you don't need to draw their attention to you by opening up on them prematurely.
Use the minimap - Get into the habit of glancing at this to see where friendlies and hostiles are and how you can use it to your advantage. Fighting someone with their back turned to you is preferable to fighting one who gets line of sight on you the same time you do on them. This matters so much more than a lot of the other advice here, position, like in most FPS, is king.
Fox people - Deceive others through action or inaction. If you see someone closing on you via mini-map or at the edge of your vision sometimes it's better not to turn and start fighting then but instead to get into cover without telegraphing to them that it's a measure to counter them and prepare to take them on your own terms.
Cover - Use it while reloading, use it while changing weapons, use it while cooking a grenade, use it to shape how many opponents you'll face at any one point in time. If you leave yourself out in the open you're limiting your options when the fighting starts. It's not only useful for avoiding damage but also hiding from your opposition what you're planning to do next. If you're going to get swamped in reds don't wait until they're all on top of you press on in one direction around the cover you may be lucky enough to run into the side they sent fewer people around.
Ammo - Always reload when you have the opportunity, do this for both weapons. If in a fight and both of you have to reload consider switching to your other weapon if its fit for the fight you're in before reloading the one you're holding. Keep track of how much ammo you expect who you are fighting to have, press them when they've to reload if you're in a good condition.
For group play:
Stick close.
Try and run suits and fits that compliment the others in your group. A scout fit for close range can compliment just about any other mobile suit fairly well if the map gives enough cover to flank. A logistics with a rep tool teamed with a heavy makes for a nasty meat grinder particularly in enclosed environments. A pair of AV fit suits can surprise tanks if used in concert.
If you got a mic use it - keep friendlies posted on where vehicles are, where groups of enemies are, the state of capture points, if they're about to walk into what looks like a trap from your point of view. |
