I'm glad you gave up after 10 minutes. It means the only people flying dropships will be those who took the time to practice them instead of every Johnny Broshooter being able to hop in one and just fly anywhere they want.
Now if only the same thing could be said of Tanks.
And I didn't give up, I'm burning all my ISK trying to wrap my head around these ******** things. |

I'm having a lot of fun with them, but it's difficult to understand exactly how to work them. Today while piloting one, I died as a result of lag. I noticed another DS so I spawned with a Swarm Launcher to take it out -- we couldn't. I'm not sure how this pilot managed it, but he avoided multiple people using Swarms... My hat goes off to him, but I'd love to know how it was managed.
I'm still relatively new to the whole experience, I've put SP into piloting but I'm using Vipers at the moment; unsure of the benefits of high-end ships.
I'd love to see more ships in the future, ones for actual combat as opposed to carrying troops. Perhaps just the one seat for the pilot who has a gun available.. Smaller, of course and faster but with less armour and shielding. |

He probably flew up really high. Right now, dropships can fly high enough so that swarm launchers can't reach them. I wouldn't get too used to that though, I'm sure it'll be fixed soon. |

Oh no, he wasn't flying high at all actually. It was quite a surprise for him to fly for the whole game, under Swarm fire for the duration of it and not be destroyed. I'm lucky if I last a few minutes, and as soon as people start spawning in my DS then I'm ****** as more take notice of it struggling to fly above them.
It'd be awesome if we could practice flight without being in a contracted battle, one where we can't lose our ships.

So I have no isk, so I have no dropship of any kind.
do they fly like helicopters or vtols like in the old build or do they fly like fixed wing craft?
Has the vtol element been completely removed?
Compare its handeling to some other flying vehicle in a game so I cant some idea with what all the fus is about.
That way if I get into to one It wont be chaos when im at the wheel.

It's fully vectored thrust, no fixed wing or helicopter disc to use to pull yourself around in a turn and that's a big part of what is giving people trouble. You can't roll and pitch up to haul a turn as in a fixed wing or helicopter, all you end up doing is skidding sideways and slowing down. Just as in space you need to thrust to change direction. |

it's like a helicopter in BF3, kinda.. it's hard to compare to what it is like but it is not easy nor should it be imo.. the ones last build were easy mode and a joke.. 4 ships on each team all crushing ppl with no gunners and the dropship wrestling matches = no skill involved at all..
if you can't make 151k isk in a couple games to afford one there's something wrong with how you're playing outside of a ship..
OP could just grind isk AFK at the side of the map while complaining here if he really wanted to.. |

They have become so rare in this build that I only realized yesterday that you can now blow them up in midair to kill the pilot.
Do not miss the crushings at all, though. |

I once thought as you did, OP. But then I spent an hour or two on a skirmish map just chilling at my start spawn flying around, trying out the different movements and evasive actions. It's pretty damn fun when you get the hang of it.
The biggest thing to adjust to compared to the old model, is that the ship actually has inertia and thrust properties now. Turning the ship doesn't immediately change direction. Where the thrusters are facing is key. I really got the feeling I was almost playing a flight sim after a while. Once you learn how the sticks affect your flight, that is. The right stick is now more than just a 'nose direction/cameral' control. The right stick also sort of banks the ship, as it's using the thrusters in a more real way. If you hold both sticks right, you can do a pretty wicked barrel roll.
In some ways, the ships are much less agile than before. But on the other hand, you can now pull flight movements that were previously impossible, like backflips and barrell rolls, and even flying upside down (for a few seconds, at least)

I'm srry to say that I like this dropship over the last one yes granted the controls can be a pain and it won't always go as fast but unlike you and so many other who rage on about the dropship I have fun and you get gimped on the dropship cause you don't know what your doing or doing something wrong on a dropship you get more sp and isk based on how many assist you get from gunners and how many lav and tanks they take out and so on my buddy who is normally my gunner can get a avg about 20 kills easy every match which by the way normally gets me around 30-40k sp depending on what he killed and I've even gotten up to 200k isk before just flying the dropship which is like half the cost of my dropship to begin with but I do understand why people hate it and I'm just stating how and why I DON"T |

The only thing I can agree with the OP on is that the sp/isk payout SUX. We should not be penalized like this for this role, it's no longer easy mode to pad assists with and they need to fix our final payout.. I can handle being on the bottom of the score/leader boards but getting 9k SP when you're gunners get 20+ kills is hore'sht.
And how is the dedicated pilot supposed to deck out an advanced dropship at this rate, the only thing he can do is ground pound, not that I personally have a problem with that but some players who are strictly pilot oriented I am sure will.. |

Yeah, being a full-time pilot should be a viable option.
Maybe since everyone thinks they're so hard to fly, you should get points every 10 seconds you're in the air and not exploding. |

Personally I think they should be challenging to fly. These things are mobile death machines in the right hands though. Your 1.6M ISK tank? You can run but you sure as hell can't hide.
If I was flying them, i'd love for an alternate control scheme. An alternate control scheme for all vehicles would be nice. I'd like the option to use R2/L2 to accelerate/decelerate, and the rest just like BF3.
Doing everything with the left stick in an LAV is so annoying |

Not sure about you but my ship costs about 420k each time. I'm gonna keep trying this **** when I have the spare cash, I just find it far more frustrating than it needs to be. I'm still holding out that pilot suits will help in some way, and hoping that they tune down some of the over sensitivity on these things. Being hurtled out of control by swarm launchers is just stupid. Railguns and forgeguns? Maybe. Swarm launchers? Nah.
Also, CCP, please for the love of god make piloting a viable option in terms of SP and ISK...this is nothing new and you know it, this has been going on since you started the beta....please, please, PLEASE throw pilots a freaking bone!

Okay this is going to sound bad but I didn't mind getting lousy SP rewards as a pilot. It was such a joy to just fly and be helpful to the team. Right now I'm feeling "blah" and trying hard to get out of that. |

This is pretty cool, but what practical implications does this actually have? I mean, you might say you can dodge forge guns and rail guns and missiles and stuff, but that's nothing you couldn't do before. It just seems like this change only exists to make an already difficult role that much more difficult. If anything, dropships pilots should be earning the most SP and ISK just for the sheer hastle they have to go through.
Again, I haven't completely given up, I just felt the need to voice my displeasure and general lack of fun while flying these new dropships. Today was a bad day irl and it kind of bled through, but my points remain.

Dropships need better instrumentation to make flying more accurate, and I'm hoping that will come on the HUD of the pilot suit. |

Unlikely why would a suit change how the controls work? that's like having perfect controls of a dropship at lvl 2 but lvl 3 makes it unbearbly bad.
That is also inversely a bad thing its like every level of drop suit you raise the controls get nerfed. |
