EDIT: I'm still working on learning these new controls, I'm just very frustrated with them, and the cost of flight training is pretty damn steep. Figured I'd add this in, but I'll leave my original rant as well. Also, CCP, for the love of all that is holy, FIX THE SP AND ISK GAINS FOR PILOTS, PLEASE!!!
I just sunk a ton of ISK and SP into trying these stupid things out again, and I STILL can't get them to fly forward. I just lost 400k ISK because it decided to just fly backwards past the redline and explode [EDIT: Hey look, they actually go forward....I can't believe you people prefer this garbage....]
**** these dropships. You people can keep them, they're ********. Screw this. I should have skilled into tanks, at least they work....
And there goes another....this is exciting...
Yea, definitely screw this. It's not like flying them is even remotely rewarding, you gimp the crap out of your SP and ISK gains, and flying these things is so damn far from fun. Nothing like being severely punished for breathing next to your joystick....
Good job CCP, I don't usually ***** too much about your changes (except tank wars maybe), but this change....yea, congrats guys, congrats. Failships. |

Varys Targaryen wrote:I spent about a million isk flying militia dropships, learning how to fly. And let me tell you: It is absolutely, most definitely rewarding flying one. It's fun once you get the hang of it.
It's also cool knowing that you were the reason why your teammates captured a null cannon because of your mobile CRU and gun support.
Yea, I think 'rewarding' means different things to different people.
For me, rewarding means getting proper ISK and SP, as well as having a good time. I can't see how anyone could enjoy these controls over the E3 controls, they're way too twitchy, and the 'fancy' maneuvers you can do are useless at the end of the day.
They were fun the past 2 builds. Now? They're flying ISK sinks. I'm just going into LAV's, they're just as good for quick transport, cost a hell of a lot less, and don't make me want to break my controller every time I get in them.
Also, it is now my mission to kill every dropship I see, to prove that they're useless wastes of ISK and SP, and only exist to give the opposing team extra points and pleasure. Screw these dropships. Have fun falling behind everyone else as your SP and ISK dwindle compared to the rest of us... |

Sees-Too-Much wrote:Personally, I like the new controls. And as soon as I find a way to consistently avoid swarms I shall use them to rain fire down on all you insects on the ground! Let's see how OP tanks are when they're getting bombarded from the air!
I'll be there, shooting your tub out of the sky. It's so upsetting for me since flying dropships was my favorite thing to do since I started playing in the second build. I just don't understand what made dropships so good that they needed these ridiculous controls, yet tanks are the easiest things to use in this game.
At least force them to learn how to drive too, so damn stupid. Ugh, I'm so aggravated right now. |

::Cough cough:: Tanks ::cough cough hack wheeze::
If Dropships awarded their pilots reasonable ISK and SP, and weren't so easy to kill, then maybe, just maybe I could justify these idiotic controls. As it stands, I'll just stick with capturing objectives and getting obscene kills in my militia fits. I'd rather not farm away my days just to make enough ISK to fund each dropship loss. It's not skill that keeps dropships alive right now, it's lack of skill on their enemies part.
And they are so not more maneuverable than last build, now you can just do useless barrel rolls and laughable nose dives... |

Lmfao at how badly swarm launchers cause dropships to rock now >_<
And while I'm here, wouldn't you think a DROP ship would be good at quickly accelerating and decelerating, to make quick drops and extractions? Is there some magic accelerate button I'm missing or something? Or do I just need to rock it back and forth until it finally decides it wants to pick up speed?
I'm really trying here guys, losing all my ISK right alongside my patience trying to see what the benefit of owning and piloting a dropship actually is right now....
Someone throw me a god damned bone >_< |

Shiro Mokuzan wrote:Drop ships are not air jeeps. It now takes skill to fly them, and that's a good thing.
I'm glad you gave up after 10 minutes. It means the only people flying dropships will be those who took the time to practice them instead of every Johnny Broshooter being able to hop in one and just fly anywhere they want.
Now if only the same thing could be said of Tanks.
And I didn't give up, I'm burning all my ISK trying to wrap my head around these ******** things. |

Carl Dublin wrote:I'm having a lot of fun with them, but it's difficult to understand exactly how to work them. Today while piloting one, I died as a result of lag. I noticed another DS so I spawned with a Swarm Launcher to take it out -- we couldn't. I'm not sure how this pilot managed it, but he avoided multiple people using Swarms... My hat goes off to him, but I'd love to know how it was managed.
He probably flew up really high. Right now, dropships can fly high enough so that swarm launchers can't reach them. I wouldn't get too used to that though, I'm sure it'll be fixed soon. |

TEBOW BAGGINS wrote: if you can't make 151k isk in a couple games to afford one there's something wrong with how you're playing outside of a ship.. ..
Not sure about you but my ship costs about 420k each time. I'm gonna keep trying this **** when I have the spare cash, I just find it far more frustrating than it needs to be. I'm still holding out that pilot suits will help in some way, and hoping that they tune down some of the over sensitivity on these things. Being hurtled out of control by swarm launchers is just stupid. Railguns and forgeguns? Maybe. Swarm launchers? Nah.
Also, CCP, please for the love of god make piloting a viable option in terms of SP and ISK...this is nothing new and you know it, this has been going on since you started the beta....please, please, PLEASE throw pilots a freaking bone!

Nova Knife wrote: In some ways, the ships are much less agile than before. But on the other hand, you can now pull flight movements that were previously impossible, like backflips and barrell rolls, and even flying upside down (for a few seconds, at least)
This is pretty cool, but what practical implications does this actually have? I mean, you might say you can dodge forge guns and rail guns and missiles and stuff, but that's nothing you couldn't do before. It just seems like this change only exists to make an already difficult role that much more difficult. If anything, dropships pilots should be earning the most SP and ISK just for the sheer hastle they have to go through.
Again, I haven't completely given up, I just felt the need to voice my displeasure and general lack of fun while flying these new dropships. Today was a bad day irl and it kind of bled through, but my points remain.
