I noticed this while playing the other day, what I think is really missing from this game, are kill streaks, and things like double, triple, quadruple kills etc etc. I mainly played Halo as my FPS of choice, so I'm not sure if other FPS games do this, but I for one think it would be nice to get some kind of visual or verbal queue for when you're housing the crap out of your opponent.
Anyone else agree, or is this too trivial?
EDIT: Just a clarification, I'm not talking about giving bonuses for kill streaks or anything like that. Just a good old fashion verbal or visual queue letting you know that you're hulking out ;) |

This has come up in the past and the main supporters for this were the CoD folk. Basically Dust isn't the kind of game to have killstreaks as:
- We already have vehicles so anything a CoD guy calls a killstreak is irrelevant here (I know you're not from CoD, just stating this point).
- Killstreaks belong to a genre where you judge yourself by KDR and there is no real economy. Dust is the opposite of both those points.
In addition, we already have a form of what you could call a squad based killstreak. We have orbital strikes. |

Right? It's such a minor thing, but it pumps you up, really helps to keep the adrenaline going. I also like to know when I've passed 5-10-15 kills etc, cuz I do it all the time and only really notice at the very end of the game >_< |

Adding a feature like that makes the game feel like KDR is what counts and it's not. I'm all for getting players all worked up and getting "the beast out of them" but it shouldn't be based on kills. How about WP or objective based enthusiasm? |

I prefer the current squad bonuses. Individual killstreak bonuses would take away from the objective in Skirmish and may discourage team play or team angst due to kill steals. If an individual killstreak bonus was implemented though, I would hope it would only be used in Ambush mode. On the plus side, an individual killstreak bonus would also help Ambush equalize with Skirmish as I have always gotten alot less points in Ambush compared to Skirmish. In any case, we already have a killstreak bonus; the orbital strike. |

I don't see why we couldn't have both? I'm all for adding stuff for the guys who are capping objectives and following orders and stuff, but also putting things in for kills could only help.
Yea, I think we should have both ^_^ |

I just want to clarify, I'm not talking about any kind of bonuses, just a verbal or visual notification letting you know that you're tearing up the house |

Here's a visual indicator for you to see if you're "tearing up the house": MCV shield/armour bars around the radar/minimap, along with clone reserve counter right under it.
Ava (The announcer. She's the ship computer voice module in Eve, as well) will also let you know when either MCV reaches a certain status (50% shields, etc..) and when clone reserves are low on either side. |

There is an actual feedback for kills in row. The sound of the kill "wham" varies when you are having them in a row, like in an orbital strike. |

I find the +50 is a very nice visual clue that you have killed someone. The text in the top right always helps:
Dzark Kill (Tactical Assault Rifle) ***enter all 16 enemy names here***
You could always count them up in your head. you could also include kill assists when the +25 comes up cannot take fulll credit but he may not have died without your bullits...

I can see this feature coming in the gladiator/arena expansion, where cod-esque/KDR gameplay will flourish. But not in skirmish or any other objective based game modes |

This is true, though it's so minor I hardly even notice (I have noticed though). As for the comment about MCC shields and clones and stuff, that is an indicator that my TEAM is doing good, not that I am doing good.
At the very least, it would be nice to have this stuff tallied up and put into a battle report at the end of the match, so I can see how many double kills, triple kills, rampages, etc etc I had. It wouldn't effect anyone else, it would just be a nice way to see just how good I did during a match. The same kind of information could be applied to things like hacking, capturing and defending objectives, following squad orders, revives, etc etc. |

Getting a squad pumped up and into beast mode is the job of the squad leader. This is why mic chat should be free for all in dust. Squad leader needs to be able to give an objective and MOTIVATE people into doing their duty in game and accomplishing that objective. Common you MAGGOTS! Do you want your current clone to live FOREVER! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE! MOVE! |

This is an FPS so kills and deaths DO matter. Yes I understand that this isn't a typical FPS and its connected with "The Almighty EVE Universe" but its still an FPS. Teamwork is important but don't tell me when you see a well known elite killer on your team as opposed to the enemy side that you're not a little happy. If KDR doesn't matter then we should just take away guns and weapons and deaths and just run around capping objectives. For those that aren't elite killers there are other roles available, but get real this is still somewhat an FPS so KDR has at least a little relevant. |

Rofl, we are a rather interesting bunch, aren't we?
I want to keep this on topic though, sorry for getting a bit off track. I'm more or less curious about WHY this would be a bad idea? Leaderboards already support KDR, and this technically doesn't really "support" KDR, it's just a friendly indicator that you're doing well.

Killstreaks are ok when it comes to Kill/Death Ratios. However...
...Dust 514 is not about Kill/Death Ratios. It's about teamwork, specialization, corporate warfare and espionage, economic opportunism, etc.
Although you are correct to assume that a killsteak does pump one's adrenaline pretty high and keeps them motivated. I am a dedicated Halo player as well on the weekends and I have played that game since 2004 and I love hearing the term "Double Kill" or "Overkill" as I pump lead onto my opponent's faces.
Even with all that, I don't really look into the K/D ratio. I mainly look at how many kill assists I got, what was my "tool of destruction" (usually a melee attack) and how long I survived on average before I got killed again. K/D ratios mean absolutely nothing to me. |

How about what MAG did?
There weren't kill streaks, but there was a small "bonus" when you earned enough points. The points could come in any form. Capping objectives, killing, reviving, etc.
In MAG, if you earned enough consecutive points w/o dying, the background music would get louder for a short while. Giving you a little "mental boost/adrenaline rush"
Same thing could be done in Dust. Say maybe 500pts? |

I would much rather see someone I know I can work with to get an objective on my team then some leet KDR arrogant as F*** punk who thinks hes the almighty's gift to Dust514 because he can contribute nothing to squad efforts, play's it safe the entire match, and makes sure he saves his precious clone long enough to kill a few noobs. KDR mentality is stupid. It's not a reflection of a person ability or lack there of to play the game. Maybe if this were all about 1 on 1 fights you could make that argument but in the end a person who is on a squad with a 0.3 KDR that is willing to listen to squad leader and even act as a diversion or do whats dangerous to help the squad is 1000x more useful then some 20.0 KDR person who just hides from everyone and only takes the safe kills to save his precious KDR. |
