... That is disturbing. Somewhat. Anyway I heard rumors of people saying that they were able to create a female character, but it was most likely a hoax, or a glitch. As for the appearance I highly doubt you'll notice much a different beyond height, or waist line. The most noticible dropsuits that may show any changes are scout and assault. Most likely. Hopefully CCP does not go all fiction on us and get goofy on armor for women.
Anyway when it will be available? Not too sure. Hopefully soon I suppose? |

You can create them now, they just don't look any different as far as I've seen (I haven't taken one into battle yet, just been in the merc quarters). |

I have never understood as to why some men want a female character. Seems weird to me, and just for the record I have heard plenty of excuses from males on why they play around in a female character. Not that it matters to me.
As for their appearance? I know Dust514 is a sci-fi shooter, but if I see women like they just came from Warhammer40K or something I am going to be dissapointed. I was amazed when people (majority men) complained about the lack of femininity of women wearing power armor in the Fallout series and again when Bethesda did Fallout3, and had Obsidian (Black Isle) do Fallout: New Vegas. Thankfully it was minimal complaining compared to some games. I mean granted I feel women gamers are robbed of having a choice in the vast majority of games available to them and which gender they are able to choose, but the fact is most men.. Man children are incapable of being well -- Mature. Then when someone does allow women in a shooter if it's not outrageous and outlandish the men cry and complain. I doubt women want that sort of character. They just want to play as a female. I swear.
Humanity is such a fickle, and weird creature. Just hope CCP does not get all goofy on us here with character proportions.
Edit:
I messed up and meant to say Warhammer40K. Off by one number. Ha-ha. |

On one had, having female avatars encourages women to game more, which is always a good thing, and it would help diversify the look of our mercs. (I don't dislike Dust's art design, but the character silhouettes are quite samey, especially compared with games like TF2 and L4D.)
On the other hand, it doesn't make much sense to have female clones in universe. I was under the impression that we were drawing from the same pool of generic clones and simply uploading our consciousnesses and slapping our fittings on them. Splitting the clones up into genders seems inefficient. What happens in ambush when your team runs out of a gender? How about when there is only one female on a team? How many clones does she get vs. the rest of the team?
Answer: Nanites? Androgynous clones in gendered armor? Stop worrying about these things, Knarf? |

I think planet side, planetside 2 and halo:reach did it fairly well, the characters are feminine without trying to be sexy fantasies for teen boys. You shouldn't be able to see boobs in armour anyway, it not designed to make you look sexy its designed to save your life.

Yeah its tricky.
In EVE clones are a more personal stuff, they are actually your clones, and you have a limited ammount of them at any given time.
I wish Dust was more like those games where when you die, you are dead for that particular battle/round. And then once dead you reincarnate on the barge and are ready for another battle. That would enable personal clones plus more consequence on dying.
But Dust is a die-respawn-die circle until the timer ends, so its really impossible to have diferent clones in the current system. They must be all equal, standardized, and ready to battle uppon activation. No time to baking a clone of the specified gender, appearance and genetic material of your own.
Unless they change the way clones work. If we were put in battle directly from the war barge or MCC, we could buy "ammo" filling our personal clone vats with our personal clones, then once dead we are uploaded into our personal clones and jettisoned back in battle. For a isk fee of course, and this is imcompatible with the current system where we depend uppon clone vat on the surface.
This would make clones work in a similar way the dropsuits work, allowing for each soldier having its personal, fully gender customized clone including hair cut.
The way we have facilities on planet terrain with generic clones, the most they would be are males or androgenous clones without a defined sex, wich would be weird but plausible :) |

The bad thing about game lore is that it comes after the game design choices were made, only to justify post-facto whatever decisions were made.
It could work in a diferent way, and I hope that CCP arent afraid fo changing mechanics just because they made a fiction to justify something and then wont change it back because of said fiction.
I understand 'lore above gameplay' in a game like Lotro, but not here.
Clones coud work just as dropsuits does. Create, store, stock. Each merc could be allowed like 30 clones per battle (50, whatever), its more than enough to fuel the battleground and would justify personalized clones.
Edit: well, they could have done things in a diferent way, they simply chose not to.
For the sake of fun I would prefeer higher fiction clone costs hidden in someones fiction novel on a dark corner fo the web while having higher levels of fun with personalized clones in the game i am actually playing :) |

Gendered avatars are a must. My wife was a bit annoyed by the fact she couldn't create a female char. She was a bit disenfranchised, especially as she has 2 female chars in Eve. However the fix is in or coming SOON tm so I am not to0 worried.
For myself, I like to create female chars to delineate an archetype. For example Bob is my miner industrialist in Eve he's specialised in all the carebear stuff. Sue on the other hand is my combat speciallist, she's the scourge of the killboards.
In Dust Bob would become recon/logi with Sue becoming the heavy/turrets.
+1 for more female gamers. (+2 my wife concurs) |

Something like 43-47% of the gaming population is women. I hear that most don't announce it because of all the harrasment they get from boys. I could also see the white-knight kids out there annoying the heckles out of girls too.
I'm hoping we have the female characters out now. I'm pretty sure CCP said that there won't be very much difference to them. No bikini body armor which is nice. Eve's new character creation system worked out pretty well. You get a good variety of looks without anything being particularly slutty... I just hate how the characters are forced in the high-heel position. |

I think the addition of female mercs is a good idea. It gives the game a bit more diversity and helps to bring some of the female gamers over without alienating them.
From a game design perspective, you want your players to be able to see themselves in the game... in the role they are choosing to play. EVE seems to understand this as they have a very deep character designer set up on EVE Online... right down to scars and tattoos and changing bone structure.. and all this for just a screen cap that other people see. ... yet it helps the player identify with the character they are creating and playing.
As for Lisa Michelle... "Taco Drop" away...;) Although with your usual K/D you'd be spending far too much time playing face jocky... remember.. you don't wanna fight... you just wanna kill *laughs*
Anyway, I'm all for female skins/models... as long as they have the same hitbox as the males |

No, actually it has something to do with genetic dispositions related to the content of video games. Those with male genes tend to gravitate toward bodily motion, while those with female genes tend to gravitate toward emotional encounters. Tend to being the key words here, as this is a sliding scale with separate mean at said points.
Most games nowadays are shooters. Not much for girls to get engaged with. "its just another gun game". etc etc...
More than likely most games nowadays are targeting male audiences because most of the designers are male (and the tendancy to like to program/do math seems to be quantified as a male trait as well, hence the good female programmers tend to swerve toward the male side of the curve similar to many female gamers)
-----------If you actually want girls to play games (from the female side of the curve, of course there are guys on that side too), then you need more creativity in your games... such as Minecraft has. Its incredibly simplistic, blocky, low-graphic, and slow, yet has a large attraction to the female demographic, mostly because it permits them to differ from the "male norm" of games. AKA: They can build a house, invite friends to a community, make a "family", start a "farm" yadda yadda,.. or even at times go on a light adventure.
-----then off to the topic of the skimpy clothing. While it is true that many women playing games may feel threatened or insulted by video game characters being exaggerated, there are also those who feel deficient who actually play with the characters as a kind of consolation, as well as those who play with the characters, just so they can play with the minds of guys they meet. .... the variations are quite diverse...so I'll just end that bit here.
Anyway, I don't think many female gamers would even be looking toward a shooter like this unless they already liked shooters, and more than likely they're expecting the game's designs to have some kind of exaggeration to them. so if the game is one they want to play, its highly unlikely that the designs will scare them off.
Other than that, if the female avatar annoys them, they can always draw a guy. |

Considering what you can do with avatar creation in EVE, I'm sure you'll be able to make female characters in the full game. I'm guessing that the character models in-match won't reflect anyone's gender, however, considering the lore behind it. |

Yea i honestly dont care if your male or female.I have like 3 friends on PSN that are girls and i honestly dont care about my friends gender.Anyway Im pretty sure that about 50% of people we met online are female.50% of invisible girls ill tell you that. |
