Seriously, guys? It's **** like this. This is why gaming is still such a boys club. This is why girl gamers are a rarity. Can we not discuss the possibility of adding female avatars without "lol boobies"? Grow up.
No, actually it has something to do with genetic dispositions related to the content of video games. Those with male genes tend to gravitate toward bodily motion, while those with female genes tend to gravitate toward emotional encounters. Tend to being the key words here, as this is a sliding scale with separate mean at said points.
Most games nowadays are shooters. Not much for girls to get engaged with. "its just another gun game". etc etc...
More than likely most games nowadays are targeting male audiences because most of the designers are male (and the tendancy to like to program/do math seems to be quantified as a male trait as well, hence the good female programmers tend to swerve toward the male side of the curve similar to many female gamers)
-----------If you actually want girls to play games (from the female side of the curve, of course there are guys on that side too), then you need more creativity in your games... such as Minecraft has. Its incredibly simplistic, blocky, low-graphic, and slow, yet has a large attraction to the female demographic, mostly because it permits them to differ from the "male norm" of games.
AKA: They can build a house, invite friends to a community, make a "family", start a "farm" yadda yadda,.. or even at times go on a light adventure.
-----then off to the topic of the skimpy clothing. While it is true that many women playing games may feel threatened or insulted by video game characters being exaggerated, there are also those who feel deficient who actually play with the characters as a kind of consolation, as well as those who play with the characters, just so they can play with the minds of guys they meet. .... the variations are quite diverse...so I'll just end that bit here.
Anyway, I don't think many female gamers would even be looking toward a shooter like this unless they already liked shooters, and more than likely they're expecting the game's designs to have some kind of exaggeration to them. so if the game is one they want to play, its highly unlikely that the designs will scare them off.
Other than that, if the female avatar annoys them, they can always draw a guy.
