...Your own frinedly infantry wanting a ride shooting you causes you to crash.
...Hitting hit while on the groun prevents lift off.

...when pilots jokingly state that dropships take after thier name sake much more, they drop out of the sky.
And before you tell me I suck as a pilot I got two more tanks painted on my dropship today one of which was a sagaris (lawl armor tanking sags) a few dozen infantry mowed down and airdropped two squads worth of folks safely. That is probably a hell lot more than average pilot since launch. I would like to thank the brave mercs that had some faith in me not to crash instantly. Had the enemy had the sense to use swarm launchers earlier I wouldnt be here braging bout post build kills.
TL;DR Fix the half the phsyics to make it not fee like a ballon with every sneeze and give old controls back. Keep the newer physics of fighting the wind, hostile hits, and foward mass velocity. |

I think it is too early to say that the new physics model is bad.
There are skills that affect the maneuverability of the dropships.
It may also take time to hone your own skills at flying them.
Before, anyone could jump in a dropship and fly them around no problem, now I can totally see them only being flown by people who REALLY take the time to practice and get good at them.
I think that is a good thing personally. Granted, it is HARD to sit in one place and provide cover, but it is more responsive and if you go too hard to one direction or another you can quickly lose control. Try making small adjustments and practice it. |

Like i sayd on a other topic: "im not jumping into 1 of those flying coffins of doom".
Im better of with a LAV cause i dont have to fly and watch out for every single thing, i dont need to take my time to land some where when i just can jump out of my LAV and start hacking stuff. And my LAV is cheaper as every viper on the marketplace. A LAV can hide behind cover from swarms and forgeguns while a dropship is just a big target in the sky screaming "HERE FREE SP FOR SHOTING ME DOWN WHOOP WHOOP!" Hell theres even still the blueprint LAV. So now tell me why on earth should i use a dropship when i can now use a LAV and probably get save to the desired position? And on top i can even take 2 guys with me. the future belongs to the LAV's if the dropship controlls not getting changed back to the E3 build. |

Obviously didnt read the OP. These are things I listed that are beyond the pilot's control. I cant control people spawning in my dropship suddenly undoing a flight manuver I was doing. I cannot control the turret guy from shooting me on accident thinking im a hostile target and sending me into a spin out. I cant control alot of things that happens to the drop ship and its not my fault the dropship acts so abhorrently to the idea things touching it flings it across the map. |

I jumped into one, started flying, realized something was wrong when I did a barrel roll upon trying to land and grab some dudes up off the ground. When I jumped out something weird happened where I quickly started to ascend like I was superman, luckily I had a SL with me so I launched a couple swarms before dieing when I hit the invisible ceiling. Something is definitely wrong with the physics now, but it seems like everything else feels pretty good. |

I called in a dropship the RDV thought it be cute to drop it on top fo the turret . So I got in the railgun turret which eats people and spits them out on the topside when they exit. In hopes of getting nearer to my dropship the dropship goes flying into the wall and I slammed my head against the ceiling, i guess you can safely say I exited orbit. |

So far trying to be a dropship pilot is getting worse and worst by the minute. The job I need to perform is nearly impossible if a single swarm launcher is on the field. If figured out the optimal angle of attack for max speed and its still not enough.
Landing most of the time kills the craft. People spawning in the craft does weird things, them exiting even worser things. I dont know just Ill keep plugging away spare change at it, should have stocked up entirely on dropships before the patch.

Im having no problems at all with the new physics. It's harder to keep it steady so your missile gunners can hit stuff (that said I think alot of the time parked next to an empty tank still wouldn't be good enough for most gunners) but I think it's new found agility adds to the fun. So far iv not crashed it once fatally. And I had a doosey of a head on with another dropship! It's agility means that the npc launchers find it very hard to hit you. Landing it again, still no probs, just hover a meter or so of the fround and wait for the landing gear. Still hard to evade swarm launchers though. Would be handy if you got a lock on warning.
Overall, bar the cost. I prefer them this way. Feels alot more realistic, not like the old physics where it was virtually flown for you.

Gone through a few Dropships already, trying to speed through, around and under objects, flying low level a few meters off the ground, the controls are touchy, it does give you more monueverability, for when your moving around, hovering over targets for your gun guys to shot people is a little harder to keep a steady platform for them when your looking around for enemy.
Damage that is taken now is a lot, tried to do a slow low level Infantry "squash" still ended up losing the ship. Racing through the map at low level (under the centre platform from the last map) went through a few times, one run slightly a little off and "touched" the crane cable.... boom crash.
Racing through between buildings .... barely touched or better yet, lightly scraped the side of a building yet sheilds gone, took armour down enough to start smoking a little.... next comes a light flame... oh oh fire... armour 0.
So I'll practice a little more with the throw away Vipers I have left and think I'll start using the Gorgons for more armour, before I start using the Eryx's I still have in stock.
But kinda thinking shield vehicles are a little screwed in this build, unless there are extinguisher modules out there. |

I called in a dropship thinking, "Ok, I am gonna have a bad time." It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
It basically takes full time all out concentration. As the pilot you have to correct for every little sneeze from a team mate in tow, or wobble from infantry fire. It is a lot of work and not very enjoyable compared to last build, but with practice that could all change. And even though dropships were lots of fun in the last build they were kind of easy mode. Making them more difficult to fly yet more agile is a move in the right direction. That said...
Some maps seem to have wind, and flying is like trying to stay in one exact spot while paddling a canoe in a large river.
Can't really say if the flying is realistic, having never flown. But it does feel an awful lot like a boat.
Worst thing about it was inability to accelerate quickly in the forward direction without doing a nose dive. That just seemed like bad engineering... |

Getting good at flying is going to be really expensive. It's gonna suck when they wipe everything and I have to relearn the flying on a limited budget.
That said, I think the extra maneuverability will help, but I don't know if it will be worth it to be a pilot. So many uncontrollable variables can kill you and cost you a ton of money, and if you fly perfectly and somehow survive SP and ISK really isn't very good. I really want to be a pilot but it's not looking very rewarding this build. As others have said maybe i'll just start using the LAV instead. |

they just either went overboard nerfing them (which they did need a nerf they were waaay to easy to fly last build, it was basiaclly a hover tank) or they havent added the things that will stabilize them yet (pilot suit, propulsion) props to op for trying and suceeding some wtih them and you have every right to brag- a pilot who doesn't brag is just some guy.
the friendly fire effecting their physics is disturbing because then we just get grief by ppl who hate pilots but I'm sure they will work it out if not no ones gonna be flying dropships and despite what ragers claim CCP is not that stupid to just leave them like they are open to being grief by non enemy fire, the code was just not completed I'm guessing they didn't code in friendly fire vs non or idk but no one should scream about a sky is falling.. they want dropships to be in game but currently as they are it's not feasible really to risk them at such a high cost.

I shot at some guy flying on my team. I was way out in the open, running towards him, and he took off. I put a few bullets in it to tell him to pick me up.
Then I watched him do a lazy half loop into a pipe and almost crush me with the burning wreck.

Extra manuverable???
Seriously I cant dance around a light pole with the nose pointed to it in 2 seconds in the new model. I definetly cant go under the pipes in 2 second either.
There is a severe loss in mobility and agility. Velocity mass was increased that I dont mind, Fighting the wind that I dont mind, Getting nailed by hostile fire altering course, that I dont mind.
The simple fact that I cannot precisely land in the same amount of time on top of a cru or go full throttle under the warehouses without hitting a box down there. Dodge a swarm launch by manuvering alone.
This game is supposed to be for anyone to pick up and learn on day one but mastering over time the new controls alone is exact opposite of that approach.

must have been an epic moment on their end which i don't mind being the guy who looses because someone else is having their moment and fun- it's not all about me
needless to say I didn't survive like the guy does in "Behind Enemy Lines"
i really like these threads tho it's a testament to pilot mentality of how were able to discuss this like men instead of spoiled children who have had their toys taken away from them and make rageposts about how CCP sux.
no. we pilots, you see, we discuss things sarcastically without turning it into a division of the community when no one sypathizes with our rantings and then it becomes cod kid vs evetard flame thread. take note everyone.
/salute to my other pilots, I'm turning in my wings for now guys [Top Gun moment. scared, shaken look] and keep us up with these good reports
PS what botherd me the most was that my 3900 shield was destroyed by only one SL, if i could still tank some hits then I could deal with the mobilty challenge but not having any ability to tank hits and being so unstable was a bit more than i could "tank" the biggest hit's i'm taking tho are to my wallet, those 3 combined have done it for me for now. i will be back when they get some things figured/ironed out |

It'll really be interesting to see how things look in a couple weeks and what people spend their SP on. I'm seriously doubting it'll be full-on into dropships. No way of earning SP without help (don't even get SP for spawns), massive price hike, significant SP investment.. not sure how badly I'm a glutton for punishment. |

Ironically since they now take a little skill to fly, you'll be seeing a lot more goodness gracious; great balls of fire!!! |

Even when no one gets in a can still be useful by running people over, although i swear they've increased the speed required and reduced the hitboxes.
And of course if I kill someone EARTHQUAKE

that would be sick. just like the scout suit of the sky, not much tank but very fast and agile, and the pilot has like blasters on it, possibly 2 seated for one co pilot |

If anything this would only encorage to dropship camping even more as parking the thing on the roof is the only reliable way to maintain presence. |

Parking on roofs was nerfed when safe landings were removed from the game.

New Dropship mechanics FTW!
I love the new mechanics. If you take the time to learn to fly the ship you can do a lot more with it now.
If you think it is hard then it is finally good. It will separate the good pilots from the useless pilots. |

Another person who hasnt read the OP.
I have learned I did rack up some kills today that where extremly hard to do.
Dropship overall efficency was basically cut to about 1/10 of its former self you cannot do nearly half of the thinds the previous dropship did in the same amount of time. |

Well...dropships have one advantage now...I cant shoot them down with missile installations...the missiles move WAY too slow. Hell the smoke is faster than the missiles lol. I also think I outran a missile in my heavy suit :p |
