Well i was on the forums a couple of days ago and i saw a reference to a video from 2009 showing off the prototype overview map. What really surprised me though was when he ordered some sort of dropship, but it moved 4x the speed of a normal one. The HUD led me to believe that this wasn't a dropship as it went sideways and at angles.

This video is from fanfest 2009 I'm not sure whether this breaks the NDA

That sir, would be a jet! Or something of the like. As far as I am aware, CCP still plans to have these in the game. |

Well to me it seems to be the one from the front page of this site, in game that seems to be a modified Firbolg or similar Gallente design.

They would be cool, but I'm not sure how a flying vehicle that fast would be balanced in terms of AV weaponry. Current dropships can already outrun SL missiles if the pilot knows what they are doing, and hitting them with a Forge while moving can be a task depending on range.
I'm not sure how you deal with something moving at 2-3X those speeds. If you increase the speed of SL missiles you totally screw Dropships, but then the jets are near impossible to shoot down. If they can figure a way to balance it though havin jets would be awesome. |

According to the person I talked to on comms, who played from the earliest version of Dust from 2009, he said that those jets are so fast that you often find yourself flying off into the red zone. If ccp has any plans to bring them back, which is likely given the evidence shown on the table in the merc quarters, then we need far bigger maps. |

Have No-Fly Zones (Dropships exempt) in High Sec/Matchmade battles. And for Corp/Faction Warfare (ie. Low-Sec/Null-Sec battles) have an AA Battery as a deployable structure or pre-deployed structure. If CCP decides to give Logi's the ability to fully repair destroyed structures then this would help to create balance between Ground & Air. |

You know what else was in there that I wish was still in? The method for calling in vehicles via the map. That way you know exactly where your vehicle is going to land, and the way still you can call in vehicles where it's the most tactically convenient rather than right where you're standing. You could call in your tank in a safe spot and meet it there when it lands.
Also, gun ships are supposed to be added. Don't know when though, I think in this next build. |

I don't remember where I heard this from but seems that I remember something about CCP allowing Eve ships (small ones like frigates, cruisers) to enter atmosphere to provide air support. I would also think that if this is true then they would provide a way to take them down just as they are going to provide weapons large enough to take out capital ships in space.
Has any one heard of this? |

Adding jets that us dust users can fly could be a downfall. Take BF3 for example, numerous games you get people doing nothing but waiting for jets/heli's. Even if they miss the jet and spawn in they'll suicide and wait until the next one becomes available. |

Are you talking orbital strikes or are you saying these ships would be visible entities to people in DUST? If the latter, people have posted the sizes of these smaller EVE ships in numerous posts. If memory serves, even the smallest frigate is massive. I don't think this would work out considering the current map sizes (even if they were quadrupled in size). |

Vehicles don't spawn they get ordered for your isk so no waiting as long as you have enough money

Yeah I'm talking about the latter. I would think this to be a problem too after playing in beta and seeing just how small the maps are. However I would be willing to bet that the maps will get much larger one Dust goes live. I'm sure it will take a while before this happens (considering how slow CCP takes to implement new additions) but I don't doubt that they could do it.

I guess I should've worded that last post correctly.
I meant bigger map to fly around in without accidentally flying into the red zone. So far, the red zones are so constricting that I feel claustrophobic in an open area. |

Thanks OP for posting that video. I believe that the video was of Dust on its engine developed by CCP.. They later scrapped it in favor of UTs engine... Man, Hopefully Dust becomes more like that. 3 years extra development and all we get is this build :( |

No, he was saying that if you zoom out the map is big to where the red zone will be moved out more, right now they just have us testing what they said is the smallest map right now in the beta. Or they could do what Battlefield 3 did, and let the jets fly out into the red zone without being timed.

People keep forgetting Dust is a team based game with a well defined command structure. If I'm required to fight as infantry, that's what I'll do because those are my orders and my commander won't approve anything else for me anyway. Tank drivers will HAVE TO get their tanks because that's the decided upon tactic for that match. In a match where it is decided that jets are required, jet pilots will be brought in. Otherwise they'll be pretty useless. |

Just because it is a team based game it doesn't mean people will play it like one. Bf3 is team based game, how often do you actually get people playing as a team? Just because someone has to approve a jet it doesn't mean that the guy will go infantry etc if he can't get a jet. You have to remember the mentality of some FPS players. I've played plenty of FPS games and believe me many are not team players like you or I. |

The thing is that if they don't accept the command structure they will quickly find themselves only in the arena battles. Or maybe as odd lone wolves in FW. |
