Just something I was thinking about the other day and that's about earning extra SP. I think there should be an option to gain extra SP from other players by vote / gifting. The way SP is gained, can be one-sided at times and not reward players who really are contributing, but not like Mr. Smith whose taking all the objectives / getting a high KDR.
For instance: They may only have a 3/7 KDR, but it's not because they're not contributing. They may be directing people to where those tanks are, sniper spotting, calling in enemy locations / hiding spots, etc... so while they may not be as "actively contributing" as some other players, they are still contributing.
At the end of the match, an option could be given to give someone extra SP (or even ISK) for a job well done. Win or Lose (even in a loss, someone could have still been trying extra hard).

No. Sorry, but this is a horrible idea. Stat padding and scams would be on a whole new level. So I disagree. |

I can already say that: A. You will undoubtedly be able to direct transfer unlimited quantities of ISK between players. That's how it is in EVE, and it would make no sense to deny that to you guys. B. There's no way in hell they're ever going to let you give skillpoints to other players. Think of SP as memories of practicing on a firing range, and you get the general idea. You can't take thing that you've learned and shoot them into your buddy's brain like the Matrix or something. In EVE, the skills we learn are complex enough that they can only be implanted over time. Only reason you can zap them in in Dust is because things like firing a gun and driving an HAV are a -lot- simpler than commanding an entire spacecraft with your brain. |

Besides the fact that yes the whole point of dust is that you can beam things into clones brains (however they are only your own) i totally and completely agree. if you want to give that guy a bonus, pop him some isk |

Greetings,
Naturi Riclenore wrote:I think there should be an option to gain extra SP from other players by vote / gifting. No, as others have stated this is too easy to exploit. Gifting ISK, okay, in fact it will be in the game eventually, but no to gifting / giving SP.

That's what I was going for. |

I wasn't trying to find a way to screw the system or anything like that, just a way to try and reward those players who do contribute but just don't get recognized for it in-game. I guess a merit system could work, but then that would get abused too. There's no perfect answer, but there's gotta be some way. |

I have to say, I like the SP idea as proposed. I think people are reading the topic and assuming you can just give unused skill points to people, and I 100% disagree with that. But OP suggested a system where the SP payouts are modified directly at the end of the battle.
I think a system might be possible where there exists a relatively small pool of SP which is awarded to the team rather than individuals. Say 2 to 5% of the total SP payout for the team is reserved in this "merit fund." At the end of the battle you nominate the person you think was the biggest help to the team.
The key to balancing it would go something like this: if no one player stands out as a leader (ie everyone votes for themselves, or buddies only swap votes for each other) then that bonus pool is not distributed to anyone. But if someone takes a lead (or, perhaps for balance purposes, a clear lead such as 3+ votes or something) then they get a share of that bonus pool.
The numbers need to be set so as to make the bonus pool a reward people want, but not so massive that they give the winners a huge lead in SP gain. But if you've done well enough that multiple people on your team recognize you as having been the key player, I could justify an in-game way of attributing that.
Then again, it could be made unnecessary if warpoints determine skillpoints and are given out for more reasons. If you provide intel on an enemy's location for your team (by having them show up on your scanner, and preferably the addition of an "x spotted" menu for visual sightings which are out of sensor range), you should get a small amount of warpoints. There are a lot of really tiny things you can do that can help make the difference for the team, and at the moment they go unrewarded. |

As I stated previously the proposed SP gifting is too easy to exploit... Now, reading your response, it is obvious that you haven't even tried to figure out what we are talking about, so I will give you a hint... Power Leveling. Imagine for a moment a small 11 man team of high skilled players who play in high sec area who sell access to their team for ISK / AURUM / RL Money. At the end of the match, whether they win or not, they gift all of the SP to their client. Instant power level.
Next, you list 2-5%... Sounds reasonable right? Well what is a reasonable level of SP for a match? I scored over 200K SP on one match last night without ever setting foot in a vehicle... And I came it 4th on my team. I had one this morning where I scored 20K SP and I came in 3rd for the entire battle... That was just me, there were 11 other people on my teams, so that 2 - 5% can add up to a hefty sum than can be given to the power levelling client.

I understand what people are saying about it being exploitable. In fact after I posted the OP, I thought "HMMM, a clan might take advantage of this." I guess the real solution is to add more ways to get it in-game for some of the little things that are done.
For instance, if I am asked to defend an objective, I get no SP if no-one comes to the objective - I'm just standing there. Now if every so often, I would get SP for defending the objective. So say every 30 seconds I get "+25 Defending" so long as I am within a certain range and said objective is "marked" by the SL.
maybe that's the better option. I'm just trying to determine a better way to get SP for doing some of the things that go un-rewarded |

Now that I can agree with, though instead of a flat value like +25, it would be a ramped increase at every 30 second increment 2,4,8,16,32 and then 32 for every 30 seconds beyond that. I would then suggest that the defender kill SP bonus should be removed to compensate, so that killing an attack would give the same SP as it would anywhere else on the field.

I really like Asno's suggestion, to be honest.
And if there's a system where you get points for just being near the squad objective markers, then it should ONLY apply to defend orders, and only when they're on a mission-critical objective, otherwise a squad leader would exploit it to give their team lots of points (which, according to early dev interviews, will be one of the balancing factors for vehicles, so leaving a cheap exploit like that is a BAD idea). |
