I was in game and noticing some .... ummm... interesting names LOL. Some were good and some make me want to just find the kid and smack him upside the head for the name being so stupid LOL :P. But anyway, I was curious on how you got your name. If you feel like telling please do so, I will go first.
Mine is my actual nickname in real life and when I play games online I use TabbieKat if I can grab it before it is taken. |

I've had the gaming name Zerl since I was 16 and used Zerlathon whenever Zerl was too short.
Considering it was over 10 years ago, I can't really recall how I got my gaming name. |

My name is new for Dust (and online FPS in general). I don't have much of an online history. As for its origins, it just came to me. I find that happens to me a lot when I need names or passwords (I'm in IT so passwords are something I need to think of sometimes). |

Sha Kharn was a Burtor tribal name I came up with 9 years ago when Eve was in beta. It came from Tanaka Kharn (also one of my eve alts who was a warlord from a David Gemmel book)
My story back then was a grunt in service of the Minmmarter Republic army who grew disillusioned with his said lot in life and looked to the stars.
Over the years he's changed alot and amassed wealth beyond his ability to spend only to find the call of the dirt again and to feel the earth benith his feet once more.

Why did you pick that name for your eve character?

Noriega - is both for ***** and giggles and a deeper meaning since my corp mates like to say since im from the Caribbean im a druglord pirate & also Noriega was the codename of the tactical forecaster in 1 of my fav animes Gundam 00 and seeing as im one of the main tactical guys of my corp then yea thats how my name for this char came to be :P |

I come from the time when if you wanted to play an RPG you had to grab a book, paper, and dice and make your character. So seeing names people choose interest me. Here for a laugh here are DnD's Three Don'ts for names
1) No Bobs
When naming your character avoid everyday names like Jim, Betty, Dave, Sue, or Bob. The D&D world is a fantasy place, where magic is real and humans are only one of many races. In other words, it's not like the real world.
Fantasy names are an important part of the distancing effect. The disharmony between a fantasy world and familiar real-world names works only when the latter are used for deliberate comic effect. Thus Finieous Fingers's sidekicks are named Fred and Charly, Monty Python's King Arthur and his knights meet a wizard called Tim, and so forth. Be warned that such references to real world break the mood of the game and are only appropriate to parodies.
2) No Merlins
Because many a character is inspired by someone in a fantasy story or a movie, it's a natural impulse to borrow the name as a well as the character concept. Avoid the temptation.
Stealing the name of a well-known fantasy character reduces your character to a mere clone of the original. Similarly, applying a familiar name to a wholly new character creates the different problem of raising false expections in everyone who hears the name. ("No, I'm not that Conan") Acknowledge the inspiration, but make the concept your own -- with a name to match.
As an exception to the rule, note that lesser-known names from very well known sources might still be good possibilities. You don't want to name your wizard Gandalf or Saruman, but your fellow players may not recognize "Curunir" and Olorin" (different names for the same character from the Lord of the Rings, but they'll only know that if they paid close attention throughout a 1200-page book).
3) No Joke Names
It might seem a good idea at the time, but the longer you play the character and the better he or she becomes, the more you're going to regret having saddled him or her with a silly name (such as Tim the Dim, Fonkin Hoddypeaks, or Gleep Wurp the Eyebiter). Maybe your character will die before you tire of the joke, but you might find yourself stuck with a 20th-level wizard named Medium Rary.
Well that was the 3 don'ts, I hope you enjoyed them and any true RPG'er will be nostalgic to these rules |

a friend of mine actually came up with it about 15 years ago or more. he came across someone who used the euphemism "Richard Cranium" to describe someone. i started using it, but caught some flack in old chat rooms (remember those... lol. lame but true). some people just can't take a joke . also, sometimes the tag was already used. I decided to shorten it to something a bit cleaner and added my birth year to it. so Richard Cranium became cranium79. i actually use it in another variation (cranium1023... birth day) for different user IDs. i've been using it for so long, i just figure why stop? |

I've used MidnightWyvern ever since making an account on an Ace Combat series forum after playing Ace Combat 04. The name is a reference to the black paint scheme you can unlock for the game's secret aircraft, the X-02 Wyvern. When it came time to make a name for my Dust character, I knew they were going to put us in the same name database as EVE, so I'd need a new name, and I went with Mobius. I pretty much still have my PS2 just so I can play those games. |

Ok when I played eve for the trial period I had the name marco fenix(absolutely random I know) so I continued it into this game and decided to make it less random by taking the first name of the main character of Assassins creed and putting in front of the last name of two important characters seen in the last Altair memory in assassins creed revelations. |
