If a height difference is warrented, its always possible to put some sort of silly thing on the head or w/e to extend the hitbox. IDK. Make room so she can have her hair done up or some ****. /kidding obviously but
EDIT NOTE: Those of you saying no female models, please think of the female gamers. Sure were okay with playing males, but this is an MMOFPS. I want to MMO as a lady. Not as freaking lewis all the time! |

when you make your character there is a male or female option so there you go no need for anyone to say there will be or there will not be. it is fact and it will be added, i just want them added logically and not used as a sex symbol. if you want to have a sex symbol go play an MMORPG
as for your comments about the **** pieces on the male suits La Gris Feu, they are not helpful to the conversation and either show a lack of compassion or a lack of understanding. who cares how old you are, at least i am trying to contribute to the conversation and not troll, if that is all you are going to do go back to WoW where you belong. |

A) Girls who play the game do not want to be forced to play a male avatar B) I know some guys who prefer looking at a female body to a male body
So I care, my friend that wants to play cares, and from some of the posts others care as well. they are going to add them i just want to see them added properly |

A) Female avatars are coming. B) Imagine that, so do I. I even know some women who prefer the female body over the male counterpart.
And I also want them to be added properly and with good taste, don't get me wrong here. I just wonder the need to argue over the female avatar as it is already coming. Female heavy shouldn't have boobs? Why not? Just in the limits of good taste.
Also, and apologies if any feelings were stomped here. |

I express my uncertainty of the intent and seriousness of your statement. A little humour is good for the soul mon ami, and I have only made as much, a little. And is cod a filtered word? "Cod".
...Well I guess I will find out shortly.
On topic, it'd just be nice to find some means of official declaration of intent on this matter, to satisfy curiosity. Obviously it isn't a super big deal, but it is something I've begrudgingly endured enough times in other games to at least say something about in face of uncertainty. Of course my face when CCP is all classy about it and this thread was pointless (of course the same applies to most every other thread potentially, I wish I knew more about their intentions).
And then again, I guess I will find out shortly. |

To prefer killing one gender more or less than the other is inherently sexist. They will be just as dangerous and deadly as any male merc, so mercy doesn't make sense. Maybe you are feeling the effects of some evolutionary drive; you can't pass on your genes if you kill all the women, or allow the women to get killed, but keep in mind that you won't be reproducing with them anyway, and your genes persist through clones (maybe the clones don't have you're genes, so you won't gain anything evolutionarily from passing them on). They're immortal anyway. |

Sorry I came off as a total B**** but I want it to make sense. All armors wear the Light suit under it and as you add armor you lose shape. that is the main thing. in the heat of battle you will never notice but i would have to look at it when not in battle and personally it would annoy me. I know I am stuck with what ever comes down the pipe but I figured I would put my opinion on the topic before the models were finalized.
I do owe you an apology La Gris Feu, I just take it seriously and I personally find it important. Just like everyone likes their RE's, Tanks, and what ever other Item in the game you do not want to be changed. Again I am sorry for flying off the handle like that. You did not deserve that and it does not help my argument. |

Lol no worries, it's a sensitive subject. And on Internet forums it's harder to gauge how people mean things, so it's only natural to assume the worst right? Especially when it's something you care about and you feel like you need to be on a defensive footing. It happens to everybody at some point I should think. |

You do realize that the only reason gender androgynous clones will exist on the battlefield is because it's basically a fashion statement. The PR Reason is to help female gamers immerse themselves into the game. You can be whatever you want, look however you want via custom clones. A good example is the Broker. http://community.eveonline.com/background/potw/default.asp?cid=jun02
In the real world, the female body and mind has different strengths than the male. The female body biggest specialization is energy conservation, while the male's body's biggest specialization is energy acquisition.
This means greater stamina for women, but greater base strength for men. Typically a strong woman is still weaker than a weak man sans augmentations. A woman can typically outlast a man in trials of stamina, such as long distance running (two hours or more) or swimming, or survival situations where resources are scarce. http://faculty.washington.edu/crowther/Misc/RBC/gender.shtml
This means that men tend to be stronger and faster than women, thus consuming energy at a greater rate, and tend to have smaller stores of the energy. Women, specializing in energy storage have more stores on their bodies than men which are used for survival, and in their other specialization.
Specifically, omega 3 fatty acids are stored in a different manner to omega 6s. Omega 6 fatty acids tend to be stored as a kind of checking account around the stomach, arms and face. These deposits are added to and removed from during whatever activities the women does.
Omega 3s are stored more like certificates of deposit in the thighs and buttocks region and are rarely removed for anything, ("Damn, I can't get rid of this ass/thighs no matter how much I work out!"). Omega 3s have a very important role to play; brain development. During infant brain development, large amounts of omega 3s are consumed, significantly more than is possible for the mother to eat during the pregnancy, thus the omega 3s which the woman has been saving in her thighs and hips are brought in to make the difference.
Generally, most of the stores are used on the first child if they are available. This is why much of the time the first born is much more gifted than her siblings, she had much more brain building omega 3s during her growth than them.
Men are genetically wired to look for a certain shape and size in women's waist to hip ration of about 70% waist to hip size. By looking they can also tell if the woman has had children before, and how fertile and survivable the child may be, and most importantly, how big of a brain the child may have.
EDIT: The latest issue of Psychology Today has a great article from around sixty years worth of research on the matter. |

Have a slightly sexier version with the same hit box, I dont mind playing as a guy... But given the choice of whether i wanna spend my time looking at a soldier model - as a guy, i would prefer a female model on me screen moving like a man... Just saying.
If its an issue of hitboxes, keep them the same. If its an issue of boobs being too big, limit it to B cup. If its an issue of model size, we never had the option to make small or large models for EVE, so we shouldnt for DUST If its an issue of the game becoming sexist, I'd say grow up, the real world IS sexist and they DO prefer pretty over ugly. I do too, but if i find someone enough to overthrow that, then sure.
Its just a female character, when CCP feels like it's ok to put them then yay.

i think female form will only suit light suits and even then it has to be tastefully done, afterall i dont want to end up dead from distraction. but i do feel that female gamers deserve to play as female avatar. |

I don't mind wither my characters look "sexy" or "ugly" (kinda' subjective if you ask me), but if you see people wearing bikini camo in Dust, you will most definitely find who are the "kids" in the game.
Okay, that didn't make sense at all, but I still don't give a damn whether I'm shooting at a broom or a landwhale. If they're "orange", they better be sure to take cover cause I'll rain bullets on them. |

Frankly what we need is to have the warbarge fully explorable without a timer with male and female avatars with no drop suits. And let them all look the same in the game once launched to planet as it wouldn't make much sense to create different drop suits for both sexes when we're all clones down there and likely androgynous at that. Also drop up link creates enough radiation to kill the clone in a few hours after use so large body mass is preferred.

Pretty much this. Dropsuits should be utilitarian and have very little sexual dimorphism because such things are essentially nerd fantasies, but of course people like their spacemen to look pretty, so throw in clothed (not dropsuited) avatars to represent characters whenever they're not on the battlefield.
And then charge $80 for a Dust monacle. |

Whatever... Just port the Carbon character creation from EVE, and then make suits gender friendly, unless it doesn't make sense... Heavies are one size fit all, like tanks, and vehicles for size limitation reasons... If the hit box on female characters is slightly smaller its because THEY MADE THEIR CHARACTER SMALLER, which male characters should be able to do to, just like in the Carbon creation engine... Simple... If everyone is running around with midgets? Meh... Oh well... I guess if were clones its realistic anyways, maximize your clone by making him smaller, if you can change gender, you can sure as hell order mini-clones (Just with height control within reason please CCP). |

I just want the armor to be logical to humans, a Female soldier on the battle field for the most part looks like a Male soldier when they are both in the same gear.

TabbieKat wrote:I know they will be adding new suits of armor to the game for the female avatars, but I have one request. Please, OMG PLEASE do not put boobs on the Heavy Dropsuits. That would look totally dumb, maybe a slimmer design but for all intents and purposes the Male and Female Heavy Dropsuits should look almost identical. Light suits and Pilot suits are fine to show breasts do to the lack of armor on them. Command, Assault, and Logistics maybe but all they are is a more armored version of their light suits. A friend and me who are both waiting for the female avatars and both agree that the Female Heavy Dropsuit should not have breasts. Also when they do add the Female avatars can we have an option to change our Beta characters over from Male to Female. I would like to test those too but I really do not want to have to start from scratch just to test it out. Seeing as we are just clones it would be really simple to change chromosomes from XY to XX.
Id like to ad to that and say can we get rid of the skirt or kilt or what ever is on the heavy dropsuits or make it longer to look like a trench coat something else! |

Strangely, it's the only thing that makes any general sense outside of that guy's post explaining the whole concept of how each gender treats their body mass (it was quite informative).
EDIT: Oh, and... yes, I want DAT glorious Carbon engine for the character editor even if it's a web-based client or a stand-alone app for players that take interest in changing their character's appearance. |

Considering that DUST is run with UT3 engine they would have to make carbon to model your avatar and then mangle it through UT3's renderer and 3D meshing which I think none of us would like.
Or characters would look very different while inside the warbarge then on a planet as they would have to have that gorgeous carbon look when inside and then the low poly mesh of UT3 when outside.

unfortunately Carl is right, the UT3 engine is great for graphics on a stand alone game, but when you carry that over to web based systems you inherently loose alot of quality. also the PS3 is not a big fan of working with any Unreal engine. its got to many coding clashes with sony's firmware. The same reason we are having issues with the draw distance and with the in game map renderings. |
