This crap is so annoying. No one single person can be completely defensible against a Dropship while moving to an objective, so no wonder why in EVERY GAME I PLAY NOW I see dropships trying to smash players.
This crap is annoying when the enemy does it. This crap is more annoying when your own team does it.
It kills you in one hit (yet another way to die in one single hit), and when your own team does it they swoop down all of a sudden and steal your kill, plus they block you off from shooting at the enemy if the somehow miss.
What easily annoys me most about this is when teammates swoop down to steal your kill and block you. It's like all the ammo I fired was pointless and all I did was waste my time. I really don't care when the enemy does it to me because it rarely happens.
CCP - put something in place to stop people from doing this. Maybe make it so being hit with dropships just pushes you out of the way like when you get hit with a friendly vehicle.
EDIT - It's disappointing to see such resistance to this idea. I guess the days of first person shooter requiring people to have gun game and shoot in first person as opposed to smash in third person are gone. I understand heavy vehicles killing people. I still, and will always think it takes a true scrub to prefer this method of gameplay that delivers instant death from an aeronautic armor protected vehicle opposed to using any of the dozens of other weapons in this game. These are probably the same players that swarm launcher whored, spawn camp, use the forge gun from the tops of buildings with nanohives, and have no points in AR, Pistol or SMG and still don't have a 2 to 1 kdr and never come in 1st place. Maybe I'm wrong, but one thing is certain - I miss the days where online gaming wasn't so noob friendly and gun game and talent were mandatory for success. |

This seems to be more of a problem with the people you're playing with than with the game mechanics. As the game gets closer to a finished product they'll probably add things like grouping, so you can make sure your team doesn't have any of the kdr chasing cod "pros" that would rather get an easy kill than use a dropship as, oh, a dropship. |

Guiltily, I've crushed people in my Dropship on numerous Occasions... though I prefer to use them as mobile spawn points, and troop movement...
However.. if you're trying to say that dropping a tonne of metal on top of your head is any less effective a way of killing something than runnig them over with a Tank or a LAV... you're nuts. People who crush risk their Dropships coming so close to the ground, and impact damage is now a large factor alot of the time. |

I didn't initially think its a problem when I clicked this thread, but 1 hit kills are annoying, and the less of them exist, the better. Damage of dropship slams should be decreased by half.
Being hit by a heavy moving enemy vehicle should do damage though, and I am against any measures to remove such damage completely. |

You do know that a dropship impacting a lamp post at full speed is dead right?
Forge gun, blaster tank, even RE yourself when you see the offender coming.
When I fly about doing this often I find someone takes up the chalenge and next thing i know im being hammerd from above by another dropship.

Agreed on the fact that dropship crushing as it is, is a bad thing.
It's way too easy to sweep into rows of infantry (tried that with great efficiency...) Most of annoying to me has been the cased when I've had no idea that huge thruster propelled piece of metal was somewhere near me and first thing to give information is the death message (dropships are awfully quiet, you know.)
But it should definately NOT be removed altogether, there are other options.
POSSIBLE FIXES:
- Dropship flight model change made it already a bit harder. - Adding lights gives a hint to people below that there's a vehicle nearby (less surprise crushing) - Enginge sound should be really loud (less surprise crushing) - Make crushing do damage instead of instagib (cannot be used as only solution, is not enough)
Crushing is ok if it works as a pilot's DESPERATE last resort. Most importantly, there should be a price for it: - Considerable damage to the dropship itself for crashing! Has to be balanced in order to keep dropships flyable in tighter areas.

A dropship trying to crush people puts themselves and their crew at great risk of instantly dying when they hit the slightest bump. The collision damage is currently iffy and unforgiving. It's a lot better in this build, dropships actually have inertia now. It used to be far easier to crush people, and without collision damage posting a risk you could easily get 40+ kills a round simply crushing everyone. (I started this trend a couple months ago, if you're looking for someone to blame!) Now it requires much more finesse to do this without killing yourself. It's in a pretty good spot, but collision damage still needs love.
Though, generally dropship pilots try to crush not only because it is -amazingly satisfying- but because it is the best way for them to get points. post here for feedback on changing this. |

Actually, after reading this thread and some reflection, I realized - I don't want them to change drop squishing. That -is- a valid mechanic. I'm with the fella who wants them to make vehicles noisier. I -want- to be terrified when I hear engines overhead. The problem right now is that the first notification I have that a vehicle that can easily outrun me is nearby is when it squishes me! |

Dropship crushing is fine. It should not be removed from the game and it is great fun to do.
However, currently there is no risk to this tactic, since you can spawn infinite militia drop ships and just go around smashing them into the ground.
FIxes that come to mind would be a handling penalty, to go along with the collision damage. So that when you hit the ground you lose control to some degree. This could have a cool down timer based on a pilots skill. If a pilot wants to train to use a drop ship as an infantry smasher they should have to invest time and effort to be able to do so.

A reasonable solution suggestion: Increase ground impact damage. A plane or helicopter crashes into the round, it is not going to be flying anywhere any time soon... |

I guess I can see why you would find this annoying, but there's absolutely no way to "nerf" this that wouldn't be pants-on-head ********. If a helicopter comes down on your head in real life, you're going to die. Having something that's most likely heavier on account of better propulsion systems simply nudge you gently out of the way would just be ridiculous. Also, they've increased the amount of damage you take from hard landings and running into things, so if the pilot is managing to smash people without knocking his ship to bits, I'd just say props to him. |

I really have no idea where the hell you're coming from on this. There's no fanboyism in that statement. The only thing I can figure is you're upset because I called out the cod players for what they are - a detriment to a team and tactics. |

I smashed many, many people(My best score in one round is 25). For the pilot it is easier to crush someone and get 50 points and +1 kill(for statistics) rather than waiting until the gunner realizes that he have target to shot, and when he finally finish him - pilot get paid for it only 25pkt (+no kills for statistic). And THAT'S the problem. Moreover Friendly Fire should be turned off, and what do you think about some that start shooting to target ppl, then he change target, deal another 20% shield and get assist for both players. |
