I looked in my hardrive and found this, and remembered how much money I made with it in ambush.
I don't even recall in which hotfix this happened, but it was great for the 3 days it lasted or so. THAT EXTRA SLOT IS STILL ALWAYS WELCOME CCP
So what were your favorite unintentional mistakes from CCP ?

I really have a hard time picking a favorite coding mistake because I preferred a solid, clean, and respectful match above one filled with players abusing broken mechanics. Such as that horrid limbo glitch that so-called "great" players would revert to when they are getting their face pushed in. Also, the invincible LAV glitch that would crash the game for everyone.
If I had to choose though, it would be between the "WTF, my forge is shooting blanks, again!?" and the "I just jabbed you in the face and did literally no damage" coding mishaps. At least those were bearable, usually fixed with persistence or a reload.

Though I never got to see it, I would say my favorite glitch was the Tron glitch that made buildings glow. Like Romulus said, some of the glitches were downright abuses, but the Tron glitch was just cosmetic, and apparently a sight to behold.
Likewise, there was also a glitch for awhile in which my knives would visibly combine with my SMG so it looked like I had a knife gun. Again, it did not perform differently, but it did remind me of the sword guns from Final Fantasy VIII

I loved it back when you would see clone bodies flying around like they were shot out of a cannon. It was always super quick, barely more than just a blur. I don't know what was going on, whether it was people getting killed and launched across the play field at light speed or just random animation glitches, but I loved it.
Also, back when I was learning how to fly my CEO called in a Grims for me in a match where there were no players on the opposing team. The RDV came in at what looked like maximum altitude and hovered over the drop site, still at max altitude, and just sat there. We had a few people goofing around in the area, and me and my CEO just sat there looking at the RDV for 30 seconds or so. Right when he said "well, I guess it's not gonna drop it" the RDV cut the Grims loose. My CEO yelled heads up and everyone scattered, but 2 of our guys got squished/exploded when the DS hit the ground. Great stuff. |

Gotta be the "don't walk into the LAV or you'll die" piece of code... Went great with the "near immortal LAV" piece of code.
Since I was too noob at the time to have my own, I really appreciated how overconfident these LAV drivers were, as I could easily taunt them into stupid places, shoot them out of the drivers seat and play at being a total scrub myself!
I remember a time when the other team then pulled out so much AV the frame rate actually died (this was back when it was still mildly stable most of the time) still managed to run half of them down before it exploded... Then I had to go and "acquire" another one. |

Also of note... I came back to write today cause.. while playing Pokemon go... a Murkrow was CP 514... then I opened my Tap Titans game, to find out the auto-travel had left me on... Level 514. I sighed, and resigned to checking out the forums.

Not counting some people have already mentioned.
Vehicle turrets being coded upside down(for a while you could angle them down more than up)
Origin point of vehicles (0,0,0) being at ground level so swarms would consistently hit the ground before the vehicle.
Vehicles not having proper stabilization and when they flipped over, would spin like tops violently until they killed themselves from collision damage.

In my experience ther were a 100s of bugs and glitches from sounds, like constant RR fire to graphical holes which either trapped you or teleported your clone, falling forever or flying face first outside the redline. Shooting with nanite injector or knives?
Slightly off topic- Was it coding that made PC lag 10x worse than regular battles? 8 out of 10 try hard games were terrible and impossible at 5 fps. I still cannot understand the severe difference in gameplay quality. Did I have a bad PS3 chip twice? My int speed was always maxed on console. Lag was 50% of my kills and 50% of my deaths during all those years lol.

The Fuel Injector was supposed to be 25%, but on release it was 125% on top of the already ~2x base speed increase in that update.

The 2000 foot tall SMG in the sky was cool. I think I saw that one twice.
Also trying to fly the Nullabar dropship was an interesting challenge. It seemed like the center of gravity was way off. Sometimes you simply could not stop it from flipping upside down. You just had to go with it and try to complete the roll to right yourself again. Trying to fight it would guarantee a crash.

Oooh! I remember the first versions of the Dropships. Their missile launchers were intense!
Tower Dropships, heh.
When they first came out, I was one of the first to figure out you could park a dropship sideways on the tops of the towers. This was a bug because if you sat in the pilot seat, while carefully rotating the craft it would slide off the building due to the slope of the object. Yet if you hopped out of the Pilot seat when it was sideways, the craft stopped sliding with the turret a full meter out from the edge of the tower.
I never saw anyone else do this before I did, but I probably wasn't the first. It allowed the infinite range of the missile launchers to gain a nearly full view of the entire map, and because the DS was sideways, you could shoot everything, including at the base of the tower.
I think I got like... 80 kills in one match that way. XP
MCC Escape
I also remember the old MCC loading areas. When they had those kiosks installed that let you view skills and other etc on the second floor, one time I walked over to the last kiosk, and was trying to go down the staircase, but instead I somehow clipped up and shot through the roof of the Waiting area. The backside of the ceiling was untextured, and was a jumble of neon colors. If I recall I thought it was Green and Purple.
Ghost Camera
Another time while playing, I died, or something.... but instead of the camera locking to the correct position of my body, it broke free of the character and started zooming off around the map at 5x the speed of a dropship. I got to tour the map, and see the various empty nodes that were in that area waaay out beyond the killzone border.

When there is an issue that the DUST 514 community needs to be aware of, it will be communicated via an official statement from CCP after thorough investigation.
Technically, if there is no game, then there are NO bugs being discussed.

I remember way, way back when there was a vehicle delivery glitch resulting in a single HAV request ending up in a sizeable pile of HAVs. CCP did go a long way with DUST but for every step forward, there seemed to be a step back. Anyone else remember small turrets and the old rotating seats on large turrets? WTH happened again?

This is more of a design mistake than a coding mistake but how many players remember almost killing a player to have them switch suits at a supply depot? I remember a few players who stayed around depots so they could pull this trick multiple times per game. Was this ever addressed or fixed? I don't remember it being fixed. I remember there was talk of a burndown timer being in place before being able to use the depot again but I am pretty sure that never happened. I think the simplest fix would be the suit you are switching from should be lost instead of going back into inventory. In any case, I'd be curious to see if supply depot functionality was changed for Project Nova but I'd guess not.

A fix was made, albeit very late. They made it so that if you switched suits while on low HP, whatever you switched into would also be low. I don't remember if it was based on percent missing, or direct HP transfer (but if you were at 100%, the new loadout would be 100% even if it had more total HP).

It is better than it was, yeah, but it is still easily exploitable.

How so? A weakened HMG heavy would absolutely lose to a pursuing Assaut with most of it's eHP left.
I did hear of people making a favorited Scout loadoat built for regen, but honestly that just puts you back in the fight sooner. It wouldn't save you from a pursuing Assault.

In any case, I'd be curious to see if supply depot functionality was changed for Project Nova but I'd guess not. I can only imagine if there was such functionality in EVE. For those that have played EVE, imagine shooting at a tiny frigate for them to go into any station and immediately come back out with a destroyer or worse still, a Titan. I remember running into a Scout that switched out to a Sentinel. Of course, such a scenario cannot happen in EVE but I remember it happening for a long period in DUST. I didn't hang around them for whole matches, but I totally made use of this if I was near one... Was nice to insta-heal... Also after the fix I'd just jump into a free suit if I was about to die.

Being able to stack nano hives and uplinks on top of each other land a dropship on the pile and then flux the dropship. It would fly an insane distance especially prior to the cap on equipment spam. In no show PC's we would get an entire team in logi suits on the tower in the mushroom map, stack the equipment and flux the dropship, once we did it at the very end of the game and the dropship crashed into the MCC as the game ended. |

For me it had to be the invisability glitch
remember that blackscreen glitch? well if you timed it right you could get get it on command, and then regain your vision.
this has the fun result of your player model not loading in properly (ala spawning but not revealed yet) and then you could run around completly invisable ruining peoples day (im so sorry)
also, back when bodys would literally fly me and a corp mate in rail tanks were shooting infantry on manus peak when i shot a guy who then went flying and landed directly on top of my friends tank halfway across the map. it was glorious.

I think another of my favorites was the one that allowed people to explore the whole map, well past the redline, and check out all the areas that were loaded but you couldn't normally visit.
I remember a few people sharing those experiences. I wonder if there were any captured for YouTube.
