Eve players were promised first acces to the Dust 514 beta...lol So much butthurt when we Sony PSN adherents got in first...lol!
The outcry from the EVE latecomers was great and add in the added butthurt from the Fanfest 2012 attendees in April who did not get to play till we got there first to the Dust 514 closed beta...lol.

It's ******* ridiculous how old this game is, but how much better it is than most console shooters.
And how they're going to ruin it by getting rid of vehicles in Nova...

Just look at the past and imagine that every singiel developer-minute spend on fixing Infantry-Vechicle interaction could serve for good of Infantry vs. Infantry combat - sincerely I think we would play even greater game today, then we do.

The only bug with vehicles is that the control sticks sometimes don't respond as you roll from full reverse to full accel.
Would be better to imagine what Dust would have been like if they didn't split the team to waste time on Legion.

Assumes facts not in evidence.
The demo took place inside, and aside from some lore fluff, it wasn't in space, at least not moving. Boring reality sneaking in, but physics has rules and all that.
As for them making a infantry only game than expanding it with vehicles, I find that to be a poor design philosophy. They don't work as a tack on addition.
As for starting out on ships in space, I laugh heartily at how poorly a corridor shooter with no views of the outside world will do.
Why do YOU need to be reminded about the "ten year plan"?
Here, lets go back to 2012, https://youtu.be/jbzN4G_geKI?t=408 isn't in funny how they are still focused on making a "good shooter experience".
I wish them the best of luck, but don't act like we haven't seen all these statements before. Its a bloody recycle of the promises with Dust, just with less actual ambition.

1. Have you even bothered keeping up with the press? It was mentioned multiple times by CCP and even multiple videos on YouTube showed the screens indicating that the fights were taking place on board a Chimera Fighter Carrier which is a Caldari ship in space.
Sources: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLGdp9lp2Kw https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=227484&find=unread
2. Actually, the map was just a little too big for 6v6 which explains why only so few players ran into the one room inside the ship where you can see what looks like a Naga battle cruiser in space.

Actually, the Dev Blog you linked specifically mentions the following:
"For now, registration is available exclusively to active subscribers of EVE Online who will join the pool of participants that we will be using to allow entry into early testing and special events for DUST 514. Registration for MorduGÇÖs Private Trials does not guarantee entry, but as an active EVE subscriber, you are the first to have access to sign up for the closed beta." - CCP Cmdr Wang (no longer working there)
It is also very likely that the alpha testers were Eve players since it was originally brought up in one of the earlier fanfests (I think 2009).

No faith in press images. I think you catch a glimpse of the room in Kirks third video, but with all the grey on grey, its hard to tell.
But of course it wasn't in space in new eden, its just some window dressing. The gravity makes no sense as soon as you see outside, but I guess that doesn't really matter, since authentic artificial gravity would make people freak out.
Playing inside a representation of a carrier is still pointless, because CCP will NEVER allow people destroy ships from the inside. So pretending you are inside a carrier is all fine and good, but it will never be connected to new eden that way.

That wasn't my point. Your statement made it seem like it wasn't in space. I don't care if that's all just window dressing. The point here is that parts of the ship gave us the impression that we are fighting in space. The only beef I have with the map though is that the rest of the map didn't give us that impression and I recall CCP Rattati and CCP Frame bringing that up saying they will try to address that issue as they continue to develop Nova.
As for the gravity part, this is sci-fi for crying out loud. We are practically about 24,000 years into the future.

There will be little snippets in there stating that vehicles will not be in launch, and heavy hints that if they can't make vehicles well, they won't bother. Hence a thread I made some time ago expressing my unending rage.

As well, would you describe every single feature ever added to every MMO as a "tack-on addition"? Adding new ways to play is pretty common for MMOs even many years into their lifespan. Do you want another Dust 514, or do you want a game actually worthy of having EVE in front of it's name?

Nova isn't an MMO. Its an FPS.
Name a shooter that introduced vehicles after launch. The only one I can think of is Heroes and Generals, and its still in beta, and oof the issues it is having with Armor.
The differences between an infantry only shooter and one with vehicles are not to be dismissed. From map design, to movement speeds, and more. You either design them from the ground up with vehicles in mind, or you don't.
It also seems like Rattati doesn't like vehicles, so I don't expect there to be a push from the top to get vehicles in the game.

Did you miss all the work Rattati did to make vehicles viable?
What about all the work turning random stuff into A/V just to try to get to some balancing point so that vehicles could advance without doing more harm the game?
If there is not a push for vehicles it is because in Dust they wasted probably thousands of man hours for a result of lost players and lost money. We can all play blame games on it being vehicle vs a/v meta fighting making balance near impossible, or on whiny players, or on a lack of developer resources but the fact is it all stemmed from the fact that vehicles were very sloppily setup in the first place and never having a hint of a foundation to work from. With that being said why would you rush vehicles into the new game and absolutely repeat the same mistakes.
The buzz line for Rattati has been that if they cant do something right they are not going to do it and I would argue that vehicles proved to be something that with out a MAJOR investment of resources can not be done right. If you look at the few games that do mix vehicles and infantry you will find that they have teams bigger than the whole CCP Shanghai studio committed to just vehicles and even then they have to move incredibly slow and do insane amounts of QA.
If you don't like the fact that vehicles are not going to be in the possible launch of Nova then yell at Hilmar for dedicating so much of everything CCP has to VR crap forcing Rattati to have to make concessions in what can and can not be worked on. Dust has proven that a FPS even in terrible shape can be profitable and VR thanks to its barriers for entry still is and will remain a niche market for some time now yet VR gets all the focus while on the FPS side we get a shutdown game and yet another possible vaporware situation because CCP can not even make a commitment to itself and its customers. |
