I seriously doubt I will be playing it by the time all these things come to pass. If they're dropping MMO, customisation, races, etc, even if only initially, I'm not interested. They really should have kept Dust going, porting it to PS4 if necessary, to keep their dedicated players. Not doing so and offering us just vapourware to keep us dangling is not good enough. |

My problem with it is that to fulfil this long term vision would require putting back the things they are taking out for this demo. That looks to me like they would need to rebuild from scratch, database included. That will take a long time, and I'll probably not hang around for it. I may revisit some time in the future if I hear that there is a new EvE based FPS that's worth a look, but for the moment I'll probably give it a miss. |

Makes no sense to strip the MMO aspects.
The half-baked MMO aspects of Dust were what kept the absolutely TERRIBLE fps aspects of Dust alive.
Does CCP not understand that they have the most compelling MMO universe in the world?
Copy and paste FW and Orbital strikes into Nova and you will be printing money.
Bring in Planetary Conquest and you'll be building a military base in the Middle East.

Bring in Planetary Conquest and you'll be building a military base in the Middle East. See, the thing is that no one ever did any orbital strikes or used the POS bonuses from Planetary Conquest. As Rattati said: "the one percent of the one percent".
There have never been any orbital strikes performed in Dust 514, which means they're obviously a useless feature.
Hell, when they were tested on Singularity, no one even showed up to watch.
Clearly development time is best spent on things that matter, like double-jumping and green sparkly muzzle flash for shotguns.

Bring in Planetary Conquest and you'll be building a military base in the Middle East. They are not stripping the mmo aspects. They are focusing on the fps aspects while still having the current mmo aspects and adding on to it.

+1.
Although I seriously doubt we'll get a lobby shooter. The tech demo is just that, a demo of what they've got so far. I'm glad the first thing they've built is the foundation of a shooter. The rest will come, I'm sure.
Something is killing new player retention.

I hope you right.
And to be clear, I am not trying to bash here, just stating that I really hope they are not scratching the MMO aspects. I wanted them to notice how much we enjoy the in depth uniqueness of DUST 515 and how we like all the different possibilities we have in our skills and dropsuits.

Let me show you why none of your points are relevant. At all. "-CCP is really not focused on making this game a top notch FPS." Rattati wrote:GÇ£This has to be a great shooter, before anything else,GÇ¥ "-Rattati and staff are on thin ice and are working hard for the bosses to even give Project NOva (PN) a shot." Is this is even true, this means that they will be motivated to make Project Nova a success, considering their jobs are on the line. They will work hard to make it an fps that stands out. "-CCP has failed, once again, to capitalize on a great idea of a game" Quote:There are much grander plans for Project Nova thoughGÇöplans that donGÇÖt at all come through from this little arena shooter demo. The long-term vision for Nova is to get back to the Dust 514 dream, blending Nova together with EVE Online. "-It is a mediocre looking game with ideas such as: "getting away from planet battles, and see more of the EVE universe." In other words, we tried to reinvent the wheel and came up with triangular wheels that don't fuking work." Quote:Not in real-time, per se. +ürnason says that only GÇ£one percent of one percentGÇ¥ of EVE Online players ever used the real-time feedback aspects of Dust. But the idea of the Planetary Conquest mode, wherein corporations battled for control of planets, is something +ürnason wants to resurrect in NovaGÇöand more.
GÇ£What IGÇÖd like to do is some sort of economic link,GÇ¥ says +ürnason. In this hypothetical situation, he sees a corporation in EVE Online and in Nova linking up, potentially by way of a structure created in EVE, and then hooking together so each side gets money or other resources. GÇ£That future is all an open map,GÇ¥ says +ürnason. GÇ£We can do whatever we want, after we demonstrate the correct shooting mechanics.GÇ¥ And lol at your analogy that doesn't even make any since. "-They need to show off the game and all they've been working on for the past 4 years soon or it will explode in their faces just like it did in 2014." I searched up "Project Nova announced by CCP" and already found 5 large articles on it. I think it is fair to say it is receiving attention.
If you watched the interview, Rattati says they're extremely nervous as to how the game will be perceived. His ass is on the line, they're on thin ice, and apparently, the team at Shanghai has been either understaffed or slacking. The demo we saw is straight trash. A stinking Tech demo after years since Project Legion was announced, after Shanghai was occupied with the sequel.
To be hopeful is to put a noose around one's own neck. I hate to be a pessimist, but CCP has conditioned me to think this way. Go with the trend they said. Take THE BEST FREAKING ASPECT OF DUST OUT OF P/NOVA aka MMO/ tier and skill tree. |

- What you NEED is a proper "New Player Experience" and to do a better job of making new players feel like they understand what is happening and why.
- I agree that you should get rid of the "teirs" so you don't have "Proto Stomping" and so that new players can compete with Veterans much faster, however, please leave the diversity in weapons and the in depth leveling up of said weapons and perks and skills.

Bad game will be bad, and pretty much the same as what you have now but with less interaction with EVE (if any).

This is literally DUST 0.5 It's not about us. It's about what they percieve the eve community to want as that's who they're pandering to. Edit: I just want to share some of my thoughts on the videos that we've seen already. This is mostly just stream of conciousness rambling. Based on just the small preview and what they've said about it; they have dumbed down the whole game. I know that we don't have 'everything' yet, however. First thing I see the map is enclosed, there are no 'long' draw distances or anything like that, it is short small hallways - in a 'small' building (seriously this is smaller than some of the things we already have) with limited verticality and everything enclosed. In my mind this points to them attempting to address all the things that gave them problems in dust (vehicles, redline sniping, rooftop camping, differences in mobility, long draw/render distances). It's been said that they want to step back from the "MMO" ambitions, and they want to make it a solid "shooter" and focus more on "competitive" bits, while also stepping away from skillpoint systems and the like, I believe they've also mentioned more "arena" like gameplay. I'm attempting to read between the lines here with what's been said and been shown... and this isn't going to be anything that even remotely resembles dust or the "grand" scale that we could have in it - I imagine that vehicles will be gone as a role (because small maps and "shooter" emphasis), so will a lot of objective based game modes like faction warfare, your 'permanent progression record' that is your character will have simpler unlocks and the like. They're going to be limiting the connection between "nova" and eve... Every sense I have screams to me that this will be even more of a CoD style lobby shooter with an eve skin on it.
I don't really think they're pandering to EVE players, or they wouldn't have taken or implied to have taken out the mmo stuff that was borrowed from EVE. I remember when I use to train noobs that some got the whole fittings and skill things down quickly because of EVE: Online. They're pandering to a larger audience that probably don't know what EVE is, they're trying to go into a market that has been pretty much been swallowed hole by other countless games, and we can only hope they change that course.
As for the map, I think it's fine.... Sorta not really, I have no problem with enclosed maps like that as long as it has an exterior area or is only used for specific game modes. Imagine the attackers have to place chargers in specific spots of the hangar while the defenders set defenses. If the offensive teams manages to set, both teams commence to evacuate the ship/hangar, at this moment the battle is held in the wreckage/exterior with the offensive team holding of till their transport arrives while defense attempts to seek revenge...
In the end of it all, if they continue this path I think they'll do fine. They still got a lot to bring in the table to create a lobby shooter and still be unique in some ways. It just won't be "our" game or "the" game it could've been. Here's hoping there's a change in mind.
