I've been playing in new eden for a while now, and am following forward wherever it goes, so I decided to check out a game with a similar premise as Dust 514 along with very similar gameplay, and I found something very quick.
Angel's Fall first is a very lonely game for someone who comes from Dust 514, even with all of the familiar elements. It is missing the king-maker that dust has, that special aspect that glued so many of us here for so long. That is the social tools dust has, which were inherited from eve. We fought for many of them in the closed beta, and they truly gave dust that true, personable feel, a tangibility that it otherwise wouldn't have had.
Angels fall first is still in early look, and much work will be had, but will the developers focus on the social aspect, such as offering the ability to create chats, voice, mail, in game? The ability to separate yourself from your steam/PSN ID and play as your character, forming friends and rivals we get to know on a level we can't compare elsewhere?
I can't answer that, but I hope that the Future EVE: FPS continues offering the social tools that EVE has because those tools add a depth to the game and social structures for the players to explore, make friends, enemies, and rivals.
Here's for Social tools in the future EVE: FPS!
*Corporations *Alliances *Voice Chats *Custom Chats *Chat editing and moderation *EVE-Mail *Notification +++ Perhaps trading, it is a powerful social tool.
What are your thoughts? If you have played Angels Falls First, your thoughts on that too?

Last time I played it was too choppy, making it vomit inducing, but I saw a lot of potential in it.

Yet Dust didn't succeed so it only 'tried'.
AFF managed to achieve space combat, boarding, a reasonable vehicle model from my first impressions, and varied and interesting maps.
That said it lacks social options, polish graphics, and a compelling back story.

At the "Survivors of Dust" steam group a few of us are playing AFF. We invite everyone to join!
AFF is a terrific game, with better graphics and gameplay than Dust, but to be honest, I'm only playing it to tide me over until Dust 2.0
One thing AFF doesn't have is the persistent universe and grand politics of Dust, which is what I play for.
You can't really compare AFF to a 4 year old PS3 game fairly, so don't spend so much time trying. Many of the things in AFF probably would have been in Dust if it wasn't for the PS3

The graphics are pretty bad but what is really cool is that they have managed to incorporated infantry boarding combat, with dog fighting, warships, and that both affect one another.
I mean AFF is essentially an Indie game developed by a small team as opposed to Planetside 2 development team.

I'm all for games that include ' actions with meaning' that said it doesn't mean that I cannot enjoy games that feature good mechanics and game play outside of some overarching context.
If you want to do something meaningful go produce your own game, write a book, break into the music industry, become a world renown scientist rather than ***** about an indie game in early development.

Many of the things in AFF probably would have been in Dust if it wasn't for the PS3 This is what people consistently miss about Dust - It's not a FFS as such, which is what most people focus on - it's a FFS in the EvE Universe with persistence and real consequences. You can ignore that all you like, but it doesn't make this simple fact go away. |

There's a site where you can have your software checked and see whether you meet the minimum/recommend specs for most games. Just Google "can you run it" and search for the game.
