Only way to reserve your Dust merc's name on EvE is to biomass your Dust merc first.

I really doubt we'll lose our names. Either they will use a system to transfer everyones character names, or they will let us reserve our names via a ticket during the year or two that we have to wait for the Alpha.

Just don't expect anything more than your name being preserved.

I believe they will keep the names. They did say that all dust players would get a reward on the new game so it would make sense to keep the current names to know who is a vet and who isn't.
With that said, some stats might be kept as well. Hopefully they pass our BPOs and SP. that's what matters the most as money and time was spent on that.
Isk, aur, assets, etc, we can easily get more of that. But its SP and bpos that matter to me mostly.
I had to give MY WALLET for the G-M/H skins. 200M+ isk. I wanna keep them.
Gonna make sure to take a pic of EVERYTHING I HAVE before the servers go down just incase.

Ugh. I know. But it's just.... So much time to get So and stuff all to see it go down the sink. I could have stepped my trumpet level up, gotten some decent abs, improved school work, etc etc etc.
It's a disappointment to see it all go down the drain. There should ATLEAST be a skill pool so that all our SP is generated again over time.
Basically, at the fairest way, we would probably get 1.5x more sp per match from our normal pool to get out SP back.
Some people spent hundreds of dollars for thier SP. they Shiism atleast get some back no?
I feel ^^^ that would be the fairest as we all still start fresh.

Maybe, since it'll be starting fresh on a new game with a better system in place, a name change would be actually viable? Here's to hoping, at least.

Hey I spent about $200, maybe more, on this game and I don't regret it. Hell, I don't care if I start fresh from the beginning with nothing but the dropsuit on my back and my rusty militia knives on my hand with no ISK in my pocket. Sometimes it's great to start over because it makes you appreciate where you came from and how you got there.
Besides, the mere fact that you and I can proudly call ourselves Dust 514 players in the New Eden FPS for PC is reward enough for me.

They dont give a flying F*** about us dust 514 PS3 players.
Why would they care about our names?
They just pulled the plug on us and are currently not even paying attention to dust.
What they did was disgusting to their player base on the PS3.
Basically pulled the plug on life support to us all.
Then came out and said ohhh yeah by the way we are making a FPS on the PC.
How the F does that benefit us console gamers?
I am speaking for most of you here. As i own a top quality gaming PC already.
But i can imagine how all you dedicated console gamers feel right now.
If its anything like me you got to be disgusted at CCP right now.

My guess is, since the Dust name is also an EvE name, you will have an EvE account under your PSN ID with that character in it (three to an account, just like in Dust) and you will have some sort of secure access to it once you identify yourself with your old PSN ID. |

The whole point of a new game is to start from scratch, we most likely will ONLY keep our names and nothing else. But that is NOT the point of the way the EvE Universe works. Persistence is what it's all about. This will be a first for CCP - stopping a game on one platform and more or less recreating it on another. It will be interesting to see what they can and do use of the old game, since I'm sure plenty of it will be usable. It would be stupid to reinvent the wheel when they've already got one just sitting there on their servers. |

Unfortunately Radiant, the logical way they will identify your char on the new system is by the PSN it's on, which they also have as an ID in their database. So I don't think you'll get rid of it that easily.
However, EvE has a facility to transfer chars at a small cost in real USD between accounts. Just set up your other PSN ID as an account in EvE (or whatever interface they give us) and you should be able to transfer it across.
Having said that, I know (because I tried) that I can't log into my Dust account from EvE Gate, so there's some flag that tells the system it's a Dust account. That will have to be dealt with. |

Example- Dust vet- 1500 sp New player- 1000 sp This is where the its-a-gamers miss the point. New Eden games, by their very nature are supposed to be persistent, so we don't lose all the investment in time, money, energy, etc, that we have playing it. If CCP were to tell their EvE players, "Sorry, we're closing down the game and starting a new one using the things we've learnt from in on a Cray. There will be a recognition for your time playing EvE.", there would be an uproar. They simply would NOT do it, unless CCP were itself going out of business.
This is the way it should have been with Dust. It's OK to port to a new platform if the old one proves unsuitable, but the content must as much as possible be ported too, with the option, if you wish, to reset skills, etc, but it should be the choice of the player. There is no reason this can't be done, within the limits of whatever database changes have to be made to make the existing data fit on the new platform.
I would not be surprised if CCP is watching all this commentary, trying to determine the level of angst that would be generated within the Dust community with this move and planning what to port across. I see no problem whatsoever with everything being ported in some way, where it fits with the new platform. The data will all be there, it's just what format it will need to be in, and whether it's relevant on the new platform, that needs to be ironed out. |

Our mercs exist in Eve. If you log in to Eve and fly your ship to the station your merc is in and dock, you see them in the station visitors list. They could fling all of the Dust servers into the ocean and our names would still be preserved, since we share a single data system with Eve. They would have to go in and intentionally delete every single Dust character. In order to preserve our names they have to do exactly nothing.
Every character in the New Eden world would have a flag denoting which game it belongs to. All they'll have to do to port us over is flag us as Legion characters (or whatever they call it).
Nobody can steal your name. When you log into the next game with your Dust character, it'll still be a member of whatever corp you're in too. Subdreddit will exist from now until the day that CCP powers down their last server, even if we don't have a single member who is playing one of their games.

Isk, aur, assets, etc, we can easily get more of that. But its SP and bpos that matter to me mostly.

I don't expect Full assets, skills, isk etc... but I would like something a lot more tangible and relevant than a little badge or trophy. I believe there is plenty of time and room to come to some sort of middle ground arrangement of sorts but to be fair it really does depend on what CCP does with the new game.
Will we still have skills and skill points? I would imagine we will keep if not build upon character fitting and customisation as that is one of the hallmarks.

A middle ground would be fine by me.
As I said before, I don't expect CCP to port over our assets mainly because there will be so many changes to the new FPS on PC that I doubt our assets will be the same anyways. What if CCP adopts CCP Z's progression system that was originally proposed by him for Project Legion back in 2014? If that happens, our BPOs would be practically pointless to have unless they were converted to SKIN modules. But we all know we didn't pay AUR for those BPOs just for the looks. We bought them for the utility. But that utility will get removed if CCP Z's proposal gets implemented.
For the record, I don't like CCP Z's proposal so I decided to make a counterproposal back in 2014. Tell me what you think. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1ztubg6eHMMMwDF8QJtBniU065XCtM-Uy32Ags2-TSNg/edit?usp=sharing
Even if we do keep the utility aspect of the BPOs, who is to say CCP won't convert them into Eve Online BPOs where materials are required for manufacturing and you have to pay facilities to utilize them?
As for AUR consumables like the 'Pyrus' Assault A-1 Series or 'Raider' Scout, it will be extremely hard for CCP to tell which ones and how much of each were acquired with cash-purchased AUR and not that of the Daily Login or Event Rewards AUR. Let's not also forget about the salvaged AUR items. It would be an extremely long process of compiling a proper script to determine all of this without fudging up anyone's inventory. How much Dev time and resources would that take to accomplish? Dev time and resources that could have been better spent creating an awesome and stable game?
But again, I'm all for a middle ground. If CCP can pull off transferring everyone's assets into the new game including BPOs and AUR plus AUR consumables, then good for them and lucky for us. But as I said before, I don't expect anymore than my name to transfer. I have been disappointed by CCP in the past with Eve Online: Incarna and Fanfest 2014. I don't want to set myself up for another major disappointment.

Same here. But I don't feel bad about it. If anything, it only made it more depressing for me to think that 1.3 would be our last official update. At least in 1.2 I had plenty of fun without the depressing feeling.

I regret believing there would be at least a little more longevity in the game than we have been given. I bought a State Shogun Sentinel, because I thought I'd have plenty of time to get to know how to use it. What a waste of 100,000 LP and 1M ISK!! Now in Dust's last days, I'm really needing that LP for my State Assault suits and State Kaalakiota Specialist Rail Rifles, and having to grind what few CFW matches I can get just to keep in stock with these.
Plus I've just discovered Logis, and guess which State LP suit I didn't get?!! The State Kampo Logistics, of course! That was going to be my next one.... :(

Example- Dust vet- 1500 sp New player- 1000 sp
It will be a new game.....there might not even be bpos or the same gear or system that was useful in dust. That's why I"m burning everyhing....even selling my bpo's to the npc corp to make "space"

Our names should be the only thing we keep. I want to keep everything because that's what EvE is about. Yes, I know this is Dust, but it's in the New Eden EvE Universe, and should by rights then be persistent. I'm sure CCP was at least a little worried there'd be people like me that believe things shouldn't just end like that, particularly in New Eden. The idea of New Eden is that once a part of that universe comes into being, it continues in some form for as long as CCP exists. That's why the transition to the new platform should carry across just as much as CCP can preserve of our existing advancement, just exactly as if they were porting it.
There is nothing to stop them doing exactly that. The database is on Tranquility. They can keep exactly what they want of it to populate the new game's database, even just keep the database itself for that matter, with whatever database mods are necessary for the new platform. I don't buy this "tiered recognition" rubbish. They can do a lot better than that. They can even give you guys that want to start again a skill reset or even a complete wipe if they want, but give me what I've already got, thanks. |

Yes, I agree, their treatment of us is abhorrent. No way would they even dream of doing this to the EvE community. But they can still redeem themselves by using as much of what they have sitting on their servers to give us some continuity in the new game if we want it. They have the ability to use any or all of what we already have in Tranquility. Let's just see what they come up with. New Eden is about persistence. They could still give us that. they said they would reward dust players with tiered rewards in the new FPS based in EvE
What good is that if modders on the pc have everything maxed their first day.
Skilled based game NO MORE.

For you and I, our names are the most valuable thing we have in this game...
But I am hoping that some DUST players who put about 0.5 seconds worth of thought into naming their character because they just wanted to get in there and shoot stuff, might consider putting some time into coming up with a decent new name in the new game.

For the record, according to the EULA and ToS we all signed up for, everything in Eve Online and Dust 514 from the largest titan to the smallest dropsuit belongs to CCP Games. You don't own your stuff. No, that's right, we only own the experience. :)
But try telling that to the EvE Online players. :)

This would be the part where I ask you if you ever thought about the New Player Experience, but it's obvious you don't care, so I won't bother. Yes, I've thought about the NPE. It has nothing to do with the level of skills of existing players. EvE has players that have been around for a decade, and the NPE of EvE is fantastic compared with Dust. The problem is the way CCP implemented the game, not the level of skills.
Even if we did start from scratch, it will only be two or three years and that same sucky NPE will be back. A better approach to NPE is what's called for here, not a reset of SP. |

If us starting with some of our progression from this game, will somehow ruin the New Player Experience in the new game, then the New Player Experience is inherently flawed. Even if everything resets, given a couple of years there will be incredibly rich veterans just like us, and the NPE won't be any different.

The only things we could keep should be the skins.
Just makes sure we cannot sell them during the first year not to "unbalance" the game market at the start, and we are good. :)
As long as it is visual, it cannot impact the NPE. Actually, it will make them eager to get their own.!

If it was a DUST port I would want to keep my stuff.
However, this is a complete rebuild from the ground up. It will have similarities to DUST, but will also have dramatic differences. I think it would be more fun to start from scratch, carrying nothing forward but your name and reputation.
Although I would not be apposed to keeping our skins, as they are only cosmetic.
RP:
A treaty between the Factions banned the use of clone infantry. They took our stuff. They shut down the clone facilities. For months, possibly years we existed only as stored files in a computer.
Then something caused them to revers their decision and allow the use of clone solders again...
... maybe different political factions within the governments of the four Factions which supported the use of cloned solders took power...
... Maybe a pirate faction got hold of the technology and the four Factions has to restart the program to counter them...
... Maybe one of the Four Factions broke the treaty...
However it happened, some of the solders from the original program were taken out of storage and downloaded into new clones... we lived again...

I actually want a name change anyway, don't care if they reset names or not as long as my sp carries over. I have almost 30m passive unspent skill points accumulated, I only have 7-8m spent in the time I played the game. As long as my sp carries over and I can start with 38m I'm fine.

Again, don't expect anything beyond your name to transfer. You'll only set yourself up to be greatly disappointed. Ugh. Example- Dust vet- 1500 sp New player- 1000 sp It will be a new game.....there might not even be bpos or the same gear or system that was useful in dust. That's why I"m burning everyhing....even selling my bpo's to the npc corp to make "space" But what about the 'Just in case' factor? you never know
Exactly. It'll be disappointing to know my 62m, 3 Gallente Quafe skins and 4 bpos didn't make it to the new game. I spent almost 3 years for the SP and weeks finding and negotiating for te skins/bpos.

I think we will probably hear on this from CCP before the current game shuts down. It is still a few months down the line but it may be wise to start burning through some stuff and saving a portion just in case. That's my plan. |

I'm already doing that. I had hundreds of all sorts of AURUM gear that I'd been collecting for the last six months and never used. Now I'm using it all as fast as I can. All the Caldari stuff, anyway. All the rest of it is useless to me, and I can't even give it away. Oh well... |
