Jack Boost wrote:Just start now eve online.. and reserve your clone there.... Legion will be more integrated with it. No, that won't work - the name has to be unique across both EvE and Dust. I already tried putting my EvE clone name into Dust and it was rejected because the name was already in use in EvE. I'm sure the same will be the case in the opposite direction. |

Murder Medic wrote:I really doubt we'll lose our names. Either they will use a system to transfer everyones character names, or they will let us reserve our names via a ticket during the year or two that we have to wait for the Alpha. There is no way they could offer "recognition" to us Dusters without both transferring the name (with whatever recognition that is) and somehow reserving it for the appropriate person to use. My guess is, since the Dust name is also an EvE name, you will have an EvE account under your PSN ID with that character in it (three to an account, just like in Dust) and you will have some sort of secure access to it once you identify yourself with your old PSN ID. |

With that said, some stats might be kept as well. Hopefully they pass our BPOs and SP. that's what matters the most as money and time was spent on that.
Isk, aur, assets, etc, we can easily get more of that. But its SP and bpos that matter to me mostly.
I had to give MY WALLET for the G-M/H skins. 200M+ isk. I wanna keep them.
Gonna make sure to take a pic of EVERYTHING I HAVE before the servers go down just incase. ALL information about such things is stored on Tranquility. I'm sure they can preserve for us just exactly what they want to. |

Gonna make sure to take a pic of EVERYTHING I HAVE before the servers go down just incase. The whole point of a new game is to start from scratch, we most likely will ONLY keep our names and nothing else. But that is NOT the point of the way the EvE Universe works. Persistence is what it's all about. This will be a first for CCP - stopping a game on one platform and more or less recreating it on another. It will be interesting to see what they can and do use of the old game, since I'm sure plenty of it will be usable. It would be stupid to reinvent the wheel when they've already got one just sitting there on their servers. |

I may be able to get rid of the 3 in my name finally... Seeing as I have a Pancake on a different PSN... without any numbers. Unfortunately Radiant, the logical way they will identify your char on the new system is by the PSN it's on, which they also have as an ID in their database. So I don't think you'll get rid of it that easily.
However, EvE has a facility to transfer chars at a small cost in real USD between accounts. Just set up your other PSN ID as an account in EvE (or whatever interface they give us) and you should be able to transfer it across.
Having said that, I know (because I tried) that I can't log into my Dust account from EvE Gate, so there's some flag that tells the system it's a Dust account. That will have to be dealt with. |

Gonna make sure to take a pic of EVERYTHING I HAVE before the servers go down just incase. Again, don't expect anything beyond your name to transfer. You'll only set yourself up to be greatly disappointed. Ugh. I know. But it's just.... So much time to get So and stuff all to see it go down the sink. I could have stepped my trumpet level up, gotten some decent abs, improved school work, etc etc etc. It's a disappointment to see it all go down the drain. There should ATLEAST be a skill pool so that all our SP is generated again over time. Basically, at the fairest way, we would probably get 1.5x more sp per match from our normal pool to get out SP back. Some people spent hundreds of dollars for thier SP. they Shiism atleast get some back no? I feel ^^^ that would be the fairest as we all still start fresh. Example- Dust vet- 1500 sp New player- 1000 sp This is where the its-a-gamers miss the point. New Eden games, by their very nature are supposed to be persistent, so we don't lose all the investment in time, money, energy, etc, that we have playing it. If CCP were to tell their EvE players, "Sorry, we're closing down the game and starting a new one using the things we've learnt from in on a Cray. There will be a recognition for your time playing EvE.", there would be an uproar. They simply would NOT do it, unless CCP were itself going out of business.
This is the way it should have been with Dust. It's OK to port to a new platform if the old one proves unsuitable, but the content must as much as possible be ported too, with the option, if you wish, to reset skills, etc, but it should be the choice of the player. There is no reason this can't be done, within the limits of whatever database changes have to be made to make the existing data fit on the new platform.
I would not be surprised if CCP is watching all this commentary, trying to determine the level of angst that would be generated within the Dust community with this move and planning what to port across. I see no problem whatsoever with everything being ported in some way, where it fits with the new platform. The data will all be there, it's just what format it will need to be in, and whether it's relevant on the new platform, that needs to be ironed out. |

Why would they care about our names?
They just pulled the plug on us and are currently not even paying attention to dust.
What they did was disgusting to their player base on the PS3.
Basically pulled the plug on life support to us all.
Then came out and said ohhh yeah by the way we are making a FPS on the PC.
How the F does that benefit us console gamers?
I am speaking for most of you here. As i own a top quality gaming PC already.
But i can imagine how all you dedicated console gamers feel right now.
If its anything like me you got to be disgusted at CCP right now. Yes, I agree, their treatment of us is abhorrent. No way would they even dream of doing this to the EvE community.
But they can still redeem themselves by using as much of what they have sitting on their servers to give us some continuity in the new game if we want it. They have the ability to use any or all of what we already have in Tranquility. Let's just see what they come up with.
New Eden is about persistence. They could still give us that. |

Persistence is about continuity of what we were doing on Dust. Even if the game is significantly different, they have it within their power to give us a lot more than just "tiered recognition". |

I don't want to set myself up for another major disappointment. ^ I regret even getting my hopes up for 1.3. I figured that would be my last Dust hurrah, but look how that turned out... I regret believing there would be at least a little more longevity in the game than we have been given. I bought a State Shogun Sentinel, because I thought I'd have plenty of time to get to know how to use it. What a waste of 100,000 LP and 1M ISK!! Now in Dust's last days, I'm really needing that LP for my State Assault suits and State Kaalakiota Specialist Rail Rifles, and having to grind what few CFW matches I can get just to keep in stock with these.
Plus I've just discovered Logis, and guess which State LP suit I didn't get?!! The State Kampo Logistics, of course! That was going to be my next one.... :(
Thanks a lot CCP! |

Our names should be the only thing we keep. I want to keep everything because that's what EvE is about. Yes, I know this is Dust, but it's in the New Eden EvE Universe, and should by rights then be persistent. I'm sure CCP was at least a little worried there'd be people like me that believe things shouldn't just end like that, particularly in New Eden. The idea of New Eden is that once a part of that universe comes into being, it continues in some form for as long as CCP exists. That's why the transition to the new platform should carry across just as much as CCP can preserve of our existing advancement, just exactly as if they were porting it.
There is nothing to stop them doing exactly that. The database is on Tranquility. They can keep exactly what they want of it to populate the new game's database, even just keep the database itself for that matter, with whatever database mods are necessary for the new platform. I don't buy this "tiered recognition" rubbish. They can do a lot better than that. They can even give you guys that want to start again a skill reset or even a complete wipe if they want, but give me what I've already got, thanks. |

For the record, according to the EULA and ToS we all signed up for, everything in Eve Online and Dust 514 from the largest titan to the smallest dropsuit belongs to CCP Games. You don't own your stuff. No, that's right, we only own the experience. :)
But try telling that to the EvE Online players. :)

This would be the part where I ask you if you ever thought about the New Player Experience, but it's obvious you don't care, so I won't bother. Yes, I've thought about the NPE. It has nothing to do with the level of skills of existing players. EvE has players that have been around for a decade, and the NPE of EvE is fantastic compared with Dust. The problem is the way CCP implemented the game, not the level of skills.
Even if we did start from scratch, it will only be two or three years and that same sucky NPE will be back. A better approach to NPE is what's called for here, not a reset of SP. |

I'm already doing that. I had hundreds of all sorts of AURUM gear that I'd been collecting for the last six months and never used. Now I'm using it all as fast as I can. All the Caldari stuff, anyway. All the rest of it is useless to me, and I can't even give it away. Oh well... |
