Here we are again, waiting, withering.
People keep necromancing dev tagged posts to feel like they are active.
People howling and screaming, literally begging CCP for input. Look at the loader screen. Do you see anything about 'buy this today!' or a featured fit?
We are aware 1.2 is live... Somewhat...
At first I thought it was because 1.3 was coming. Then it went longer than two weeks.
Did we ever fix the MCC construction yard? Did the ama/min HAV reskin get approved? Power cores? That heavy scrambler Rat was testing?
CONTENT OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER?
Eve gate is beautiful, but we are below the mobile game even.
Old players getting fed up and leaving. Ps3's dying every week. New players being stomped out by people who have no pc's to play.
I'd like to think since Rattati chastised us for being toxic that we did get a LITTLE better...
But the silence speaks. The walls crumble. The troops begin to feast on each other. This is how the Romans felt.
Will there ever be more? Will we continue on ps3? Will we move to ps4? Is this the end of times?
We came in with a BANG. Must we leave with a whimper?
I know it's a little ranty, but also an honest inquisition. I'm far from the only person to feel this way right now. I love my friends, and my enemies. I love my devs.
I love Dust 514. o7

You know what I tend to notice?
They seem to have a very definitive pattern:
1) Lots of Dev Chatter and talking. Lots of it less serious / joking in nature, but also some focused on data insights, discussions, etc. This is bolstered by CPM involvement.
2) A Few threads (by CPM or CCP) talking about potential features / ideas.
3) Dev chatter dies down.
4) They release a Wallpaper of some DUST thing.
5) More silence (From both CCP / CPM)
6) Explosion of activity from everyone as they announce a new release / hotfix. They give about a week for feedback (or less) then before you know it the thing is released.
7) Repeat.
Right now we seem to be on step 5.

The waiting is killing me too. It would have been better for CCP to release some information of what they're working on and tell players that it might not make it into the game.

There is a pattern, and we are on step five.
But like the rest of the pattern, the timeframe is predictable.
We're on like week five of normally a two-three week cycle. If they are cooking something up, it better be huge. A game changer.
And tbqh, idc about another hotfix. I want content or death.
Look at eve, we will never be balanced.

Right now we seem to be on step 5. I agree, but there's one that doesn't fit the pattern. The one that worries me the most. Even during the silences of the past, there was still new weekly featured promotions or some other cash grab. Now we're lucky if we get 1 new skin a month. There's literally nothing to spend money on. Its like ccp has given up on trying to make money which is really a sign of the end days approaching.... I fear the worst....

I'm just gonna put this out there. I predict that Dust 514 will remain as a ps3 exclusive title until Sony no longer provides support for the PS3. Once that happens, the Dust team and all their assets will be dissolved and then CCP can go back to focusing on their primary money making game. There isn't going to be a port of any kind, and valkyrie is our replacement because CCP realized that they should stick to what they know best, and that is spaceships. They haven't pulled the plug yet because they're still getting some money out of us. If they were actually going to keep Dust 514, then we would be included in things like fan fest, or other events that involves CCP's fan base. It's also apparent that any mention of us is an embarrassed mumble and they want to just sweep us under the rug and pretend that we don't exist while at the same time trying to not say it to our faces.

Ahoy!
We mentioned this before - on multiple occasions and threads actually - that we will not hint, comment on or discuss possible future changes, release dates etc. at all until we actually have something to announce/talk about. No more Rouge weddings
We can understand that this is not ideal either, and we do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We do not want to seem distant or like we do not care - we're here, we're communicating, we care - but we do have strict internal policies about the above.

Your quick arrival does indeed give me a glimmer of hope.
And I run a business so I understand internal policies.
But what a LOT of us need is simply something like:

Inconvenience? No. Saltiness, animosity, and resentment? Yes.
Don't get me wrong, we wouldn't want another Rogue Wedding and some things need to be kept secret. But this complete shutout that has been going on for a year and a half is like blasphemy to many who have been with the EVE universe for a long time like myself. We're not accustomed to this. Meanwhile, the details of EVE's next expansion is out there for all to see. |

I like how they think that announcing something was the problem with the Rouge Wedding.
It certainly had nothing to do with saying they would be abandoning console after repeatedly saying they were laser focused on the PS3 and everything had a 10 year road map.
There is a difference between speaking and doing a complete double back on everything that was said to get people to stick around.
I suppose learning from the past is not all it is cracked up to be when you learn the totally wrong lesson.

To counterpoint,
The issue, if one is to believe CCP, is that incomplete announcement information is the issue. Speaking as a developer of software code is a tricky mistress and often times simple things takes weeks while more complex issues can be resolved with only a few clever lines of code. For any substantially complex piece of software (which games are a part of) it can be... difficult to give anything more than a week or two out of certainty on time tables. This doesn't mean such time tables do not exist, it is just that they can be... wrong.
Things once thought to take two weeks could easily take two months instead. Bugs can crop up that defy reason, and the combined efforts of several brilliant programmers can often weave gorgon knots that become a Lovecraftian Horror. This is to say nothing of those attempting such tasks with lesser skills.
Normally this is combed over by having releases set far apart. Why development on a game takes years. It hides and obfuscates this process from public eye. However once you announce something publicly it is set and stone, more or less, and by that point it better be ready.
Most things that get release dates either do so to 1) Over eager marketing, or 2) A team who is certain their current product is 'releasable' and only needs CR, Testing, and QA work. (Which in itself can take weeks to months to half a year depending on the scope of a project)
CCP, as far as I can tell, is developing the code for the next hotfix / patch right NOW. They are working toward an end goal and may have vague numbers of completion, but nothing close enough to be release ready. Because of this they can't promise anything simply by dint of not knowing how long the remaining effort will take themselves.
So they don't say anything. (Which in itself has proven to be a problem) They don't say anything because they can say nothing. Features may yet be cut in the interests of feasibility, and things may yet make it in. It's not a matter of being malicious or deceitful so much as it is one of not knowing what you can get done until you do it.
For CCP the rogue wedding was everything in that process going wrong. They showed something too early to be able to promise any actual release or progress on, and did so in the worst way possible. Their lack of details (hopefully due to lack of technical know how on it's feasibility) made it seem like our worst fears realized (potentially no character move over, progression that seemed more like a old school MMO class system, and a lack of current features)
Ultimately their lesson learned was to only say what they know they can do, and with their small team and what effort they can reliably put out, that often means only knowing they can do it once it is ready to go.

Is that how you guys look back on the Rouge wedding.. ??
"Oh, we bit off more than we could chew with that, the players freaked out, not doing it again"
The issues with the Rouge Wedding was the 360 no-scope headshot to the most promising thing about Dust514 (multi-platform) and pretty much a "Thanks for your money and support.. get a PC scrubs". This entire game is built off CCP's good intentions.. you should really start sharing them more.. At least then we know you are trying...
The whole, not talking til it's ready tactic is doing you no favours.
lol we play this game over the (false) promises made initially.. a few more couldn't hurt

Thing is the last time there was a lack of communication except for "something awesome is coming," the Rogue Wedding happened and it killed a majority of the player base. I know in most cases, something is better than nothing, but because of what has happened in the past, nothing is better than something in terms of speaking about Dust's future.
In saying that, not knowing if Dust is going to be ported or if it will die out with the PS3 is more than a bit concerning.

The outcry after FanFest 2014 was mainly caused by anticipation and speculations being bottled up for 7 months of silence, being released in a disastrous announcement that wasn't even complete. (Roundtable wasn't streamed, contrary to what Rouge was told initially)
There wouldn't be nearly the same negative reaction if there wasn't that long period of time of absolute silence.
And in case you can't see patterns here, silence is bad, mm'kay.

I love Dust 514. o7 Well I will be very scarce in 4 days when Fallout 4 hits Best Buy for my pre-order. Digital preorder baby!
Pipboy Edition baby! My mate bought it for me as an early Christmas Gift, will posts pics in the locker room so you may all bask in my awesomeness! see what it looks like.

Worthless Target wrote:I'm just gonna put this out there. This was the summery that I gathered at the last fanfest that produced the mass departure of players .
Even the guy that summarized what happened and how he felt embarrassed conveyed the same feeling that you yourself just put into words so it can't be that far from the truth and that was what .?. last year or the year before ?
This is no coincidence , I just don't believe in those and I feel for every action there's a reaction .
So what's going to be the reaction of the community .?. will they keep allowing themselves to be a doormat ?
I know when fallout 4 drop , my playing time will as well and if like I said , no new development or improvement in the performance of the game arrives by Christmas , then I'm leaving too .
Nothing else to say .
Worthless Target , you are spot on and far from worthless .

Still irks me that they call it the Rouge Wedding. Poor guy

I can kind of see CCPs point of view.
I don't think they really understand why FF 14 and the way info was released caused problems, and they may not have enough confidence in their understanding to try to be more communicative. I also think that for people involved with Dust on CCPs end, FF 14 was as traumatic, if not much more traumatic, as it was for those of us who already had a lot of time and/or money invested in the game.
At this point the resources are too limited to have someone experienced with PR be able to exclusively handle that communication, so we are left with what we have.
I think many players need to have more understanding for CCPs perspective, and I hope that CCP has at least some empathy for ours.

I'm not trying to be a pokey...
Just very passionate about dust.
It currently feels like, if they don't step up the game. It will fizzle soon.
