Im sorry, I have to say it. Scouts are useless now. Why should I use scouts? For strafe? No, strafe was nerfed. I can use logis to carry uplinks, I can run almost as fast as a scout. Scouts need a buff, because now, they suck

Breh, you use scouts so you can be MLG pro and invisible. Y'know when you activate a cloak, you are literally invisible. It's like calling in a UAV, but it makes you invisible, instead of making you invisible on the minimap. If you want to be MLG hardcore, use scouts and throw REs (freedom grenades) down. Then, when people walk by them, push the button and show them some MLG freedom. Want to run around really quickly, be completely invisible, and **** with a shotgun? Scout.

Scouts useless???
Last I remembered, I went 37/2 with a shotty, got 2k plus on links, and was a perma scanner because of presicion mods, which in turn let my team redline the enemy.
I think you need more time tweaking your scout fits.

Not gonna lie, Range Extenders could use a buff.
I can't think of the last time I used one on any of my scouts.

My LA button broke and the other day I tried to use re's but I forgot u need that button to use them |

Just run a cal scout. You don't even need prec mods on it because most are running assualts. If anything its easier now.
If I can go 25-7 with 2k wps in a 9k suit. I'm sure you can learn how too.

EWAR in this game is utter garbage. Half the reason I seldom bring out my scout is because even with my two damps, I wind up scanned all the damn time. And nevermind how they made the TACNET thing nearly worthless for everyone. There have been times I am standing almost next to a tanked out Amarr Sentinel, and not a damn thing shows up on TACNET.
Now I know what the morons are saying: "But Minotaur, invest millions upon millions more into the role to be able to make it more functional!"

This does kind of highlight a problem. EWAR seems to be balanced for max skilled Gal and Cal scouts. The trouble is, this only covers half the scouts, and isn't much good for lower sp scouts, or players trying out the role. Low profile is essential for all scouts.
Moving away from skill point bonuses and replacing with base stats is something I'd like to see across the game to help newer players.
If, instead of just lvl 5 Gallente and Caldari scouts, all scouts had 15% lower base profile (to 30db) scouts and EWAR would be easier balance, and more approachable with less sp. Bonuses might need to be looked at a bit to keep (improve) racial balance (stop Min scouts becoming OP).
I'm pleased the CPM are considering giving the 75% cloak fitting bonus to low level scouts. This profile idea is along the same lines making scouts effective for newer players. Also improving racial balance and providing a more logical baseline for balancing.

What are you trying to use the Scout for? I use my GalScout for Ninja Hacking and committing assassinations and it seems to do alright at those two roles. |

Oh so now people are starting to admit that scouts were primarily for exploiting hit detection. Good stuff.
To answer your question tho use a scout for what a scout was made for. I am a terrible scout and I still manage to sneak up behind people, flank people, help my team by stopping them from being flanked, and along the way grab up a pretty good amount of points from hacks as well.
Seriously if I am able to do this in either of my apex scouts then absolutely anyone should be able to do it as I have always been a stand and fight type of player. Your crutch may be gone but you still have 2 legs to stand on. |

Let me tell you that for those of us who have been through the many times and eras in DUST as a scout....they have never been totally useless or broken and right now they are fantastic. Other suits are also fantastic so please use what you are comfortable with. |

I *have* everything maxed out and that happens every day in my scouts. Without even getting into the many conceptual/balance problems with EWAR (and don't even get me started on how terrible cloaks have become), the tacnet needs to be adjusted in the code itself to work consistently, maybe a higher priority and/or refresh rate, something, anything. It's pointless running fits with no tank when you never know if you're going to see that 900 armor Assault 12m away from your flank in time.

The cloak's disadvantages can be worked around when using a scout fit devoted to scanning and assassinating exposed targets, but when you're running a fit with barely 200 HP and you can't even get passive scans on your opponents from a few meters away? It's useless now. Active scanners are the only thing worth using at this point as you don't have to devote your entire suit to get intel on the battlefield. Fix passive scans (Just give us back what we had before) and the scout role would be fine. Until then, we get a fast suit that's difficult but not impossible to scan.

* These are backstab loadouts and will fail miserably in a frontal assault. If you're "doing it right" and still dying to spin-and-win, drop the precision for another shield and/or the kincat for another plate. HP > All Else. If you're dying often to nearby hostiles during takedown, swap out the Hive for a decent Active Scanner (may require downgrading modules) and scan your target's surroundings before backstab. Stalk your target until he's wandered free from friendly LoS.

If the Scout class is in fact underperforming, I'd propose first tuning EWAR. Doesn't have to be a wild-and-crazy overhaul or anything risky balance-wise. Simple, sensible tweaks will suffice. Other "safe" Scout tweaks might include (A) replacing the AM Scout's lackluster bonus and (B) quality-of-life improvements for cloak (fixing delays, reducing cloakblind, granting 75% fitting reduction at Scout Level 1).
