Me and the missus are quite frankly sick of the UK as all it has going for it is it's economy, nothing more. There's no sense of anything anymore and it is riddled with hippies who would glady get penetrated in the anus without lube if it was for some twisted sense of morality in what is right. We are both English.
This is purely anecdotal but it's a terribly boring and bland place to live after you've done it all. All that is left is tv soaps, pubs, possibly drugs and TV.
Let me just make this clear to any UK nationalists who feel like getting defensive. I HAVE BEEN AND DONE EVERYTHING IN MY 28 YEARS OF LIFE THAT THIS MISERABLE SOGGY ISLAND CAN OFFER, OK?. I'VE DONE ALL OF IT, THE CAVES, HIKES, SITES,CLUBS, BEACHES, PLACES OF INTEREST, YOU NAME IT, I'VE DONE IT (obviously not on the macro level but those things can be done anywhere). David Cameron was the last straw for me and while he has not affected me and my missus negatively, i've seen it on other people and it disgusts me.
Naught but a posh toff party the government now. A joke and an embarrassment.
Anyway rant aside, my question is, does the USA really have a lot of opportunity and what kind of freedom can i expect relative to a US born citizen?. Will I be expected to spell things wrong? i.e color instead of colour.
I have 3 A levels in Art, business studies and English literature. I have an NVQ in IT I have an NVQ in landscaping and gardening I have 5 gcse's all B's and A's other than my C for maths as i was lazy but maths is not my strong point and calculators>maths anyway. Next year i am going to university to study philosophy and psychological studies and it is after this that we would like to move. I plan to take this further as well.
I have a criminal conviction of drunken violence and did 18 months in prison. This could be an issue but i am not a "proper" criminal and i have not committed any offenses since then and have no plans to commit any in future. It was provoked anyway. Apparently this isn;t an issue as i have not committed any other crimes and the nature of it isn't bad.
I know this is a strange place to post and ask but other sources are taking ages and 1 of them was rude as fk but luckily i know that morons like that do not represent the majority of US citizens.

Depends on where you live too, if you have a decent amount of money I suggest the city of Irvine of the west coast in California. One of the top ten safest cities in the world, everone's super nice and the schools are excellent, especially University High School

The American English language is really flexible, no ones going to say anything if you say armour instead of armor. You'll find that the culture is a lot more laid back and some parts of the language is different in a cultural since

What rights will i have?
Can i still go shooting or because i am foreign, will i have to wait?.
Can i smoke weed still (it's illegal here yes but it may as well be legal with how easily obtained it is and how many people smoke it).
There's a lot of great places to see as well. There's a lot of ice age remains and stuff i want to see. Is all that easily accessible or do i need special permits and stuff?.
I'll tell you one thing mate, i am not interested in nyc at all. I lived in London for a good while, i am not interested in concrete jungles. NYC is just a taller S.hole than London and not my thing.

I think we have a permit license to own a gun. Weed is illegal unless for medical purposes in some states. If you are moving here I think you should learn and understand the bill of rights and the Declaration of Independence. Those will tell you every single right you have when you move here.

With weed it depends on the state, Denver Colorado and seattle Washington are fully decriminalized. Most cities the cops have too much on their hands to actively wage a campaign against stoners. A vet city cop doesn't want to do paper work on a guy with a joint. But in rural areas where the cops dont have anything to do is where u have to be careful and some states or counties have zero tolerance. Most places tho the law is under 32 grams is a misdemeanor.
There are a lot of egostistical materialist arrogant shlts here you have to not let the gen pop get to you, theres cool ppl to be found who will let you shoot their guns if ammo is in stock. We shoot ours in the desert. You can watch americans asserting their rights on youtube vs DHS checkpoints, not sure how they extend to foreign but one guy who did it didnt sound american and they finally wave him thru.

Well... Let me sum it up for you.
With your levels of study, unless you know a firm that values experience over studies you might have to restudy. At least in NJ and most of NY. Primary reason: we're greedy and wantz ur moniez to pay for uni. If you plan on going back to uni, make sure you talk to a rep from your planned school and your own to make sure your credits transfer. There are some schools that want you to retake the courses even if you have the credit because reasons. Rutgers is known to do this.
As far as rights go, you'll be pretty much on the same ground as a native, except you can't run for prez, and if you're not a citizen, can't do jury duty, and possibly other minor things. If you behave and just want to live and work and peace, you'll have no problems.
Some things may depend on the state you plan on moving to, as well.
Yeh.

You may ask permission from state but there's no point since they'll probably decline and even if they accept, it'll take a while. Can i smoke weed still (it's illegal here yes but it may as well be legal with how easily obtained it is and how many people smoke it). No. Most nice places don't have that problem, either. If you live in a **** suburb, though, you might fit right in. There's a lot of great places to see as well. There's a lot of ice age remains and stuff i want to see. Is all that easily accessible or do i need special permits and stuff?. If you have transportation, go nuts. Hell, some are even free to visit. I'll tell you one thing mate, i am not interested in nyc at all. I lived in London for a good while, i am not interested in concrete jungles. NYC is just a taller S.hole than London and not my thing. I love NYC, but to each their own. NJ has nice rural communities, and I'm sure other states might have better, but why bother? Unless you have easy access to things outside your home, I imagine it must be a pain.

You will actually have greater Freedom/Liberty than in the EU or UK. As an visa holder you will be treated just like any other person, only you will not have the right to vote, and if you become a citizen the only position you could not attain to would be the Presidency.
Finding an international company and having them sponsor your move would be the cheapest way of getting to your goal. There are so many companies and fields to choose from.
I would look at your educational goals and align them with a career and company, and start corresponding with the HR departments of a few of those companies.
Good luck and don't worry about spelling, as we have already imported millions of illiterate central Americans.

Cheers for the feedback.
So we really need to be looking at which state we want to move then.
Ideally a rural one that isn't too far from a city, can smoke weed, shoot stuff and isn't on the coast where it can get really humid. The humidity is one thing we really want to get away from and places on the coast have the same levels of humidity that the UK has.
Somewhere that is in a nice spot between places of interest.
Canada also looks pretty good.

Food is also a big issue.
We would like proper cheese, milk that isn't filled with crap, on the off chance we want a cheeky burger and chips......real burgers rather than pink slop and cartilage that is compressed into burgers that i know is all fine and dandy in the USA while here, illegal or well labelled to let people know that what they're buying is rubbish.
Is high quality food a rarity and hard to come by?. I don't care if that offends, it is well documented that the USA's food standards are a bit laxx. I've bought food from the US here and by law new labels have to be put on the products to show what is actually in the food, over the top of what people in the US see, which is not the full truth.
Companies in the USA can get away with not being totally honest to the public and i'd like to be able to avoid that. We get crap food here but by law the companies have to list everything that the product contains and to clearly label the product in a way that lets people know the quality of what they're buying.
For instance mince meat here will be labelled to let you know if it's slop with cartilage or proper lean mince. It also has the fat percentages and collagen percentages so we know EXACTLY (actually they're fairly accurate estimates but still) what we're buying.
What's the situation with that stuff in the USA?. I already know that you guys don't get told the full ingredients as food products from the USA have to be re labelled here so we can see exactly what we're eating.

So no, not exactly is good food rare just cost more. Its not hard to get a kobe burger, and local angus in Oklahoma was to die for as in really good

Sources - buying from from the USA and my items having to have the full list of ingredients on them. This comes in the form of a sticker on it over the top of what is usually listed.
Upon peeling off stickers, i can see that there are ingredients not listed on what is normally listed....which is what persons see in the USA.

This is just 1 among many things that worry us. I'm not going into a debate because there isn't one. USA food standards are sub par but as stated further back, we can buy organic food if needed and this doesn't necessarily mean crap on the micro level.
I am however fine with GMO's provided they are done ethically. GMO's are good when done right and the hippies are getting far too loud about it when they don't know sht.

Well I read some of the posts, but here is the informed response.
Freedoms: You will have all the we have and more. example if your kids don't speak English we will teach them for free, once you get in on a visa no need to keep registering, you can get a driver lic without proving citizenship, you can vote, yes vote. it has bee ruled against the law to require people to prove citizen ship to vote. Police are not allowed to ask if you are a US citizen.
Free stuff: lots of it. free medical while USA citizens need to pay (careful though sometimes you never get to see a doctor only his assistant and they sometime are performing part of the surgery also), free food, free rent help and if you can lie really well money for emergency's all from your local gov't.
Get involved in expats and then you will have protection from any random discrimination and they will help you get more benifits.
Now places to live: stay out of ca, mi, nc, sc, fl, bread basket states, why you ask. natural disasters, to many social problems oh and keep away from Detroit they have high crime and are in bk.
Drugs you can get anyplace, some state weed is legal and yea you need a med excuse, but really all you got to say is "my back hurts" unlimited weed. Oh and then their are laws that say you can't have drugs on you, but you can be drugged out and it is ok.
lots of places to see, caveat emtor parks are underfunded so if you are doing stupid stuff you might not get the help you need on time.
Travel is pretty much open unless it is by plane or you go near anything that homeland thinks is theirs like dams, bridges, power plants, etc then you can be arrested just for taking pictures and held for upto 10 days without an attorney or family notification. But the good thing is that if you break the law you get a free attorney.
Universities are way to expensive and don't teach ****. you will have trouble understanding the professor since he/she will be from another country, but that is only when you have a professor, most of the time you only get an aid or a recording.
I think you said you don't like alt sexual orientation, well that is a problem here for you. all other non-heteral get special status and will rally around a like minded person if you have the misfortune of offending one and heaven forbid that you get into a drunken altercation. That is what we here in the USA call a hate crime and you get double sentence and forever marked as a social misfit who is a cave man.
wall of txt I know, all true straight info. probably will get **** for being honest. good luck

That is what we here in the USA call a hate crime and you get double sentence and forever marked as a social misfit who is a cave man.
wall of txt I know, all true straight info. probably will get **** for being honest. good luck
Cheers.
I have no issues with sexual orientation though and i did not plan on getting any education in the USA. I will be getting that here just to be on the safe side before we go.
I don't plan on doing stupid stuff wherever i visit either. I'm not quite sure why you said that lol. Also i know that the UK government will pay for a lot of my stuff if i ever need help, like medical bills. I don;t think it's the case of gettig free medical care but rather that i'm getting my tax worth from the UK government when i need it.

Yea, unfortunately his post on food is correct. We here believe we are being told the truth about what we eat, but it is a lie. without be labeled a radical true hugger, anyone who really believes they know what is done to their food is living in a fantasy world.
Lets just take a normal hamburger patty at your average grocery store or fast food place. It contains meat, connective tissue, sinew, stabilizers, binders, fat, small chips of bone, red food color, a host of chemicals. Now why all of this stuff? The USDA allows meat processors to self regulate ( kinda of like the Iran nuclear deal) and they are profit orientated and so they don't follow proper procedures and the meat is constantly contaminated but lucky for us the don't have to through it out anymore because everything is now processed with radiation and chemicals to kill off anything (true look it up) the wash the hamburger in a vat of chlorine and then hydogenperoxid and then they have to put red die into it because it is all white now.
For those Americans that don't believe me, please look it up before you respond.

Well tax is another issue.
Ya gotta pay the IRS for any income made here, period! They will not accept you paying UK taxes for US income.

This is exactly the case yes and just another lovely tidbit of the whole picture.
There is a reason that the EU is not interested in a lot of the food products from the USA and i am more than fair in worrying about it.
I mean, if standards are that low, how will i know that the high quality stuff i am buying is REALLY high quality?. The way them companies operate is exactly why we have a lot of regulations in the UK and EU, it's to stop bad persons exploiting good people but it still happens.
