Idea! LP Store now sells customizable weapon frames and attachments from factional NPC entities.
Loyalty Rank 1 - Unlocks customizable frame Loyalty Rank 3 - Unlocks 1st attachment slot Loyalty Rank 6 - Unlocks 2nd attachment slot Loyalty Rank 10 - Unlocks 3rd attachment slot
Implementation Simple weapon attachments (long barrel, short barrel, extended mag, fast mag, foregrip, improved fidelity optics, suppressor, ammo types <---!!!) could be implemented through adjustments to weapon base properties only -- no need for new artwork or animation. More complex attachments (variable zoom scopes, infra-red (anti-cloak) scopes, modified sights, laser sight, flashlight, etc) could be implemented and added to the market down the road.
Generating Buzz Customized weapons appear in killfeeds [i.e. Merc A (Federation Plasma Cannon +1) Merc B] and always drop as salvage when their user is killed. Players will be like "Dude! I picked up a custom weapon in salvage! Where'd it come from?" which will undoubtedly attract players to FW. Weapon attachments and properties can be viewed from MQ. Weapon attachments can be stripped and/or added provided requisite Warbarge Subsystem(s) is/are unlocked. |

Potential Eve Link If LP were somehow made valuable to Eve players, complex attachments could be sold from Eve to Dust through a common market.
I think the system would have to be built to support this, but the idea does have some appealing aspects to be sure.
What this means in simple terms A) I don't expect to see this added soon B) Do keep talking about the subject and if it's been awhile without word feel free to ping someone about an update on how possible it is at that time (yes someone can certainly mean me, I'd like to see where an idea of this type could take us).
Cheers, Cross

Well, tbh every FPS community wants customizeable weapons so your idea is not original at all. Secondly, only obtainable by LP? Boo!
You're talking about simple attachments? Well it isn't simple to add them to game mechanics and dude, Dust didn't even have a matchmaking system since like, it existed and CCP consider THAT to be too complicated to consider making after all this time. I have strong doubts they could take on a challenge like this. I'd vote instead for at least the option to put sights on current weapons.
Also, all of those things in implementation DO need custom animation/models or CCP will tarnish their rep as game developers even further for being lazy.
If this thread is an idea to boost FW playercount it wouldn't be worth it. CMP...or something title said they have no plans implenting the new matchmaking logic to FW so it has no players because NO ONE likes being killed by vets. I probably won't even bother during the event or if I do I'm going starter kit and just dickin' around.
4/1/2015 at 3:05pm history was made. CCP Rattati announced the new matchmaking system.

Weapon Operation, Proficiency, Reload, Ammo and Sharpshooter each affect the base stats of a given weapon. These are sufficient to prove that the base stats of weapons can be dynamically accessed and altered. An attachment like "foregrip" could access and alter the weapon base stat which controls hipfire dispersion. An attachment like "fastmag" could access and alter the weapon base stat which controls reload speed. And so on. I call these "simple attachments" because they do not involve new animation, creation of new assets or new controls, as would a variable zoom scope (for example). These simple attachments are nothing more than a number tweak. |

smart, because dynamically displaying them would be virtually impossible. But a fitting screen for the weapon with a dispersion stabilizer module/attachment, etc, is something, that frankly I hadn't thought of. kudos

As a child, I had not yet read Dune but I did play the game by Westwood Studios. The NPC mentats were well scripted, memorable personalities. I looked forward to hearing from them, the stories they'd tell, and the insights they'd lend with respect the environment and factions. I left the game with vocabulary from a book I'd never read.
Tell me a story. |

Thank you, gentlemen. Yeah, sometimes it is not enough to have a good idea. Sometimes you also have to show how it can be made to work with the limitations Rattati is working under. Good job Vitantur.

They are the largest mega-corporation in the state. Their opinions and views often conflict with another mega-corporation, the Ishukone. The Caldari homeworld is Caldari Prime.

I have never played Eve, but I hear it is rich with lore. If some of the back story could be shared with us (or even hinted at) through Factional NPCs as they forge custom gear, it could add depth to player experience and pique interest in our greater, shared universe. For example, I understand that Kaalakiota makes Caldari gear, but beyond that ... Who are they? What do they do? Why are they important? Where are they from? Who do they hate? Who do they tolerate?
That would require us to have actual vendors, which doesn't even exist in EVE. It would be really nice to be able to say walk around in some sort of small NPC town or station before heading out to fight say if we moved to X86 and were able to add these Incarna features, but I doubt it will happen on the PS3.
As for your idea, the implementation of it I don't like (having it being unlocked only through FW, and unlocked very slowly over time through FW), I'd still like weapon customization, and even suit, turret, and hull customization to happen SOONtm.

I mean instead of unlocking slots through loyalty ranks we could give each weapon a number of slots in which you could attach "weapon mods" to for increase capacity costs. Weapon mods could then be added as tiered modules to the weapon modification part of the skill tree or even as another branch past.
For example I could add a basic extended clip (+10% magazine capacity for say 15 cpu/3 pg) to my Combat rifle etc.
I've been wanting this basic form of weapon modification for ages in Dust. It is a FPS after all; people want to have unique guns that they love. Look at CODs success with just simple weapon modification masking a overall unimaginative game. |

This would be mad levels of win if possible. +1
Just an idea but to keep things simple, even just 2d pictures of the 'mods' with stat numbers would be cool, it would save you thinking about having to create addition 3d artwork for the actual weapons perhaps? (Even though a forge gun or rifle with a big badass extended magazine / scope etc... that you can spot in game would be awesome!)
