The cloak makes you shine bright and blue on the screen. Not sure why the cloak makes you stand out so much.
Then to top it off it takes a stupid amount of time to pull out anything else. The nerf was way too much. You are essentially dead when someone sees your bright blue body running around and kills you before you can even try to pull out your weapon.
Everyone who wanted it nerfed only wanted it because they can not be bothered to pay attention to the screen, or were just upset because they died a couple times and freaked out about their KDR.
The Scout has very little reason to use the Cloak since it doesn't even cloak you. People have learned to look for that obvious bright blue shimmer and kill you quickly knowing you can not shoot back.
At the very least get rid of the blue lights that shine so bright while you move. |

Sorry to disagree...cloak is in the best place that it's ever been. People are actually using them for what tthey're supposed to be and it's effective at that. Players still cloak and disappear right in front of you and then around a cover.
So, it still works.

Can you please share the link where it says what they are supposed to be?

There's just one thing about the cloak that needs to be tweaked:
Remove the switching delay when not cloaked, there is no reason for it on that occasion.

The only issue, I believe, is that the decloak delay also applies to equipment which is a slight pain when deploying uplinks - having said that I think it should apply to remotes but only because the remote activation delay is broke. |

think of it lore-wise. Cloaking allows the refraction of light making you "invisible". Now if you move, light refracts in all kinds of directions making you blue!
In all seriousness though you can't be fully invisible. Yes yes I know we're in a space age shooter that allows us to fire plasma and lasers but its physically impossible to be fully invisible

I was trying to point to the fact that you immortal in this game. Being invisible should not be impossible.
I personally will prefer if the HUD or whatever its called doesnt turn red when you have it on a cloaked clone. Some maps make cloaking useless

Theoretically that is not true though it is impossible to duplicate a mercs personality, memories, knowledge, etc. into a new clone. Technically all spawned clones should have the mentality of an infant. |

If a scout is using their slots for armour rather than dampeners, then they should definitely have a red arrow above their head. You need to use sp and slots wisely to make suits viable.
And as for maps, some are no good for heavies, loads suck for snipers, some are better than others for Logis. You can't have one suit that's perfect in every situation, that's silly. |

You are wrong, even with dampners, the indicator goes red if you target correctly. Anyways its human nature to argue even if the truth is staring them in the face. And you are just repeating what I said: some maps dont make other equipment useless why should the cloak be? Anyways even if he moon fell and landed in front of someone who doesnt believe the moon exists, they will still refuse to believe.
PS Giving you the benefit of doubt, I was talking about turning red when you point your weapon at the enemy. I was not talking about tacnet or whatever the scan display is called. It has nothing to do with dampners

This particular point is fairly controversial from the feedback that I've gathered, Sam. One recurrent idea is that the scout effect reportedly turns up very differently depending on your television, and of course your distance from the screen.
I play a few feet away from a computer monitor myself. My experience in the past has been that seeing a cloaked person, and seeing them well enough to kill them, are wildly different metrics. During the bad ole' days without the cloak delay I would often see a cloaked scout's "shimmer", but the visual distortion was enough to make it pretty darn difficult to kill that guy if he just zig-zagged while running away. This part of the experience fueled my frustration, really, since I had essentially out-maneuvered the scout player by identifying his location before he had killed me.
My cloak advocacy reached its peak when the mechanism got touted as an alternative for covering open ground unnoticed by tanks and semi-distant enemies. The predator-style play it inspired before the nerf was terrible.

If we disappeared, I could care less.
I become a little blurry in see through, but am still visible. On night time maps, I look like a little bright shiny guy running across a field. It gives me no protection, and when I am shot at, I have an incredibly awkward clunky delay to try and even begin to defend myself.
If you really think we "disappear" you should have no problem with them toning down the shimmer since you can't see it anyway apparently.

Yes yes I know we're in a space age shooter that allows us to fire plasma and lasers but its physically impossible to be fully invisible I agree that movement should cause a blur. Then again I am coupling that with better than 20/20 vision. Maybe it isn't equally obvious to anyone.
I wonder if there i a way to change the tint and other setting on the screen to maximize the visibility of a moving cloaked scout. |

Of course if ur running about u should be seen hell even predators cloaks had shimmer lol. Cloak is fine if u stand still ur completly invisible and dont whine about having to do that scouts arent slayers their recon the name scout alone says that . I run logi with precision mods and allot of the scouts I pick up arent running damps (which is most of them) if u wanna hp stack thats on u if ur seen. Nerf was justified because everyone wanted to run them because they can one hit kill u with one shot on a weapon that has eight in a clip and reloads ridiculously before your ever spotted now scouts have to be picky with their targets which is exactly how it should be not one guy wiping out whole team of heavy and assaults solo. Ohh as for equipment to being switched to slowly thats great cuz now a scout cant just throw remotes kill people and cloak to run away anymore anyone who argues against that is pathetic for such a cheap tactic |

They are medium suits who can move across the battlefield for multipurpose combat. heavys now are stationary units who cant mow u down across the field and they ride in lavs solo anymore cuz now their vehichle is fragile so no more death taxi but they still are the best units to hold enclosed objectives as their name implies sentinel. Scouts still are they best for infiltrating citys and hacking but now they cant murder a whole squad. Logis right now are in short supply because guess what their support which no one likes to do and their no longer slayer logis which is perfect as is. It's not always obvious. I've had scouts running up to me wearing a cloak, started shooting at them, they strafe and then they're gone! Then splat, I'm dead. Nobody should be able to hide in a shadow and then splat mercs. |

It depends on your tv and your eyes. I see things differently depending on the size of my tv (and if it's hd) and find it harder to spot scouts if I'm sat more than 1m away from it (which I rarely do).
If the scout is running in bright light, it's more obvious to me. But even then I struggle. Most of the time when I snipe a cloaked scout it's because they've been shield/armour tanking and not profile dampening at all, so still have a red chevron above their head, which makes them much less sneaky! |

In all seriousness though you can't be fully invisible. Yes yes I know we're in a space age shooter that allows us to fire plasma and lasers but its physically impossible to be fully invisible Its "physically" impossible to die and respawn a few seconds later Theoretically that is not true though it is impossible to duplicate a mercs personality, memories, knowledge, etc. into a new clone. Technically all spawned clones should have the mentality of an infant.
I actually posted some plausible explanations as to how this might work and some of the inherent difficulties involved in a post a year or so ago. "You" (from a consciousness stand point) are an emergent property of an underlying hierarchy of biochemical gradients, synaptic weights/strengths up through distributed network properties. The configural properties that define your brain/mind would be dauntingly complex to replicate, but not theoretically impossible. You get into odd questions if the "you" being reborn is an archived copy from earlier or an online copy from moments before your death (even more technically challenging), how the brain will interface with the body (lots of physical actions are handled primarily by peripherally distributed reflex circuits) but the replication process can't be dismissed out of hand as computationally intractable given the increases in processing power likely to be realized over the next several thousand years.

I like the shimmer effect. I think it is more equal across TV's, but the blue light seems to differ so much that people with the right TV's get a huge bonus. |

SILENTSAM 69 wrote:The cloak makes you shine bright and blue on the screen.
You are supposed to stay still while using the cloak. If your running around then you should be seen. I remember when I killed someone and a heavy would come after me and id cloak and stop moving. It was funny watching them run around in circles looking for me right infront of them.

My Gal Scout feels like I shouldn't even waste the CPU and PG on my cloakie any more since coming back.
And my Fighter Alts Cal Scout has no defense without the cloak.
The delay needs to be 0 and has the shimmer been upped? I can't even move with my Fighter without being seen and destroyed by all. Like I said, it's the cloakie point of the squad. Its only defense is the cloak, it cannot fit any kinda buffer.
And so far. It has been racked in my warbarge. Which should not be the case. It was the most fun I've had in Dust since Beta RE's.

Okay as a cloak scout myself I can ignore this thread
First thing I wanna say is people why with the hostility. People have their own thoughts on things and it's not right to just disrespect them like that, no matter how much you disagree.
Lets start with the matter of delay. Before the nerf everyone was mad because they had shottys 1 hit killing them before they even de cloak completely. Of course if they change it back to the way it was before people will do the same thing. Now we de cloak completely but even after the de cloak we are still waiting on the weapon or equipment to come back up giving anyone around us to get the jump on us in an engagement. See here if the second the de cloak completed and the weapon/equipment was out at the time of complete de cloak that would prevent one hit shotty kills without being seen and it would allow scouts, which are usually fragile to be able to get their weapon out and at least people to get that start on firing earlier that usual in an engagement.
Here is also the problem of the glimmer that appears when cloak scouts move. If you think about it, not all screens are equal and of course that would cause a difference in the viewing of the glimmer of the cloak or not. If CPP would be able to tweak certain things like the tint of the area then all screen would be able to see the glimmer. But then on the side of the cloak scouts this makes it too easy for player to spot and shoot us even when people are not trying to be a predator and do more things like recon. If the glimmer was completely removed then profile dampening cloak scouts would be able to get around and then the ages of scout predators would come back. But if the cloak scouts decided to tank instead then most passive scans and precision enhancers would be able to pick them up and take them down. And of course most of time, the red icon or whatever above out heads could easily give away our postion. So how do we go about this situation of the glimmer of the cloaks. You can lead towards the cloaks that want it removed or decreased giving them the stealth advantage. Or you can lead towards the other players that want that glimmer to be seen equally be all players. I vote die down the glimmer so the scouts can keep their stealth attribute with cloaks but keep it enough so that in situations, player could detect the cloak and prevent the predator like scouts from emerging.
Well that's all I have to say.
And sorry if the post is too long.
And again this is just the opinion of one cloak scout. And please stop with the hostility, respect each others opinions so everyone can get along.
Well tank you for all that took the time to read this.
