I always imagined that pilot suits would have access to equipment to use in their own equipment slots that gives vehicles special abilities like flares, lock on warning, etc. rather than just straight buffing the operation of the vehicles

Sure, I can make a pyramid.
Not before the pilots get their stuff down
Hmmm well I think it does serve a purpose in pubs to avoid excessive number of tanks but FacWar and PC? Less of reason to restrict it. I still like the idea of increasing the limit and changing values for different vehicles. Give each team 16 vehicle points and then make LAVs cost 2 VP, DS cost 4 VP and HAV cost 8 VP. Allow the team to spawn as many vehicles as they want so long as they do not exceed the VP limit. so two HAVs completely eat up the vehicle allotment? Sounds like a bad one to me Similar to your OP, it is an idea.
Nothing set in stone stating that these NEED to be the exact numbers used.

Not a bad idea. Another direction I was going is that link modules let you modify how the tank performs. Effectively the pilot suit becomes the "rigs" of the tank, offering increased shield recharge at the cost of boosting, ect. Allowing you to push your vehicle into a heavily specific role, both in terms of offense, defense, and utility.

Tanks and ADS should have no modules or turrets, these should be part of the pilot suit and the degree of customization should be improved. Essentially if you are in a vehicle you should play only as a vehicle, not as a player with a proto dropsuit inside a vehicle.

That's honestly an incredibly horrible bonus for 2.7, as a vehicle user I'd rather have a suit that affects my play style i.e. reduced module cool down, longer active module time, passive bonuses to armor reps/shields, I just couldn't see a reality where someone would tell a new pilot that hey if you get the pilot suit you'll get to have your tank before they do" 2.7mil in sp just isn't worth my consideration for that "edge".

Certainly you can argue logically that the pilot suit directly aids with the processing of information and the optimisation of systems by having certain specific algorithms pre-programmed into them via modules or as passive suit benefits.
However if you want something like flares that kind of stuff is mechanical and a part of your tank not the suit.

And i reallllllllly want one. But how does a suit suddenly make a tank shoot flares out its arse? IDK, I think the idea of having the Dropsuit mods fitted to the Pilot suit affect the vehicle is more reasonable.
It wouldn't be anything new to code besides the connection between the Pilot suits mods and the Vehicles stats. Beyond that, most all of the items that would be available would have rather straightforward benefits instead of things like "Nanohives make me a mobile Supply Depot" "Remotes give me Chaff flares"
Biotics would be useless, EHP (extenders/plates) would be rather useless too.
Damage mods could be applied as a flat % bonus to Damage (stacking penalties like usual). Scan Mods would affect Active Scanners or make the vehicle "Stealth". Rechargers/Regs/Reps would all provide tangible (albeit minor in the case of Reps) benefits.

So here's a thought... It's tied in with another persons suggestion though.
Specific vehicles (LLAV's, dropship, logi-ds) get 'equipment' slots for stuff like bubbleshields, aoe infantry reps (modelled after triage nanohives), maybe even moving MCRU's into this equipment slot, etc. pilot suits can then be used to augment these vehicular equipment pieces, either by reducing cool down or increasing functionality.
It's kind of a two-phase idea though. Step one would have to be the equipment & slots, step two would have to be the pilot suit.
Would also fix up some issues with MCRU's eating up 'tank' slots on certain vehicles.
Edit: further thoughts include potentially moving most non-weapon / non-tank oriented 'utility' mods into these equipment slots: so scanners, fuel injectors, afterburners, MCRU's, remote repairs, whathaveyou. Set up vehicles with hard defined equipment totals and you can get interesting stuff like a uhav with a bubble-shield for crisis moments, old remote-rep spider tanking, current scanner & prop SHAVs, etc.

I think Iron Wolf was the first to mention this idea to me and the more I think about it the more I'm starting to like it. Now, I think some utility should be tied to the slots of a vehicle, as that is typically what the off-rack is for any they offer a tangible combat benefit such as fuel injectors, afterburners, damage mods, ect. Those are like your KinKats and damage mods on a dropsuit. However, Scanners, Remote Reps, mCRUs....all of these things can be mirrored from Infantry Equipment, and it may actually be better to be consistent in how those are fit to both vehicles and dropsuits alike.

I'd settle for the pilot suit to be a plain old suit with no weapons/equipment/modules, that's required to pilot a vehicle.
No more solo tanker getting out and spewing av greanades and swarms everywhere. (Probably the best course of action from that Prima guy yesterday, after having your teams 3 tank posse taken out by one guy >__>)
No more "my vehicle's about to blow, better jump out and start spraying that HMG"
No more driving an LAV next to someone and switching to the blaster turret to down them (even if they are a protato HMG.)
& my personal favourite... No more 'cannon fodder' climbing into the drivers seat while I'm trying to do something useful... But they can still sit in the turrets... & spray that tank I'm trying to sneak up on, just to let them know I'm coming. |

Incomplete idea, and as such, it's a bad idea.
First of all, locking vehicles to a certain suit is a bad idea. Second, the skill is a pretty bad idea. Third, what would be the incentive of using a suit above STD if at full level? Forth, why must a Pilot have to spend more SP to unlock their suit, when every other Dropsuit role need only be at 3? Your reasoning behind it is both insufficient and bad.
There was another thread on pretty good ideas for this suit, but I'm too lazy to look it up. |

After thinking about it more, I see it like this: Using a pilot suit would mean that it's specifically made to use vehicles. using a combat suit obviously would therefore be worse than using a pilot suit, but nerfing them just to make pilot suits better is out of the question, as baseline should be balanced with baseline imo (if there is ever an AV suit, vehicle with pilot vs. AV w/e AV suit). Seeing as mechanical things don't even make sense (how does putting a mod on a DS make flares shoot out of a vehicle?), I was going for more electronic based things, as what I think of the vehicle as is a extra computer built onto the suit, being able to process things better.
Going with that logic, electronic-based equipment (if they come) and modules (like scanners) should be bonused, things like "better" HUDS (as in more info and stuff), a bigger map distance, a more detailed map, stuff like that.

I don't understand what you're saying here. The way I see it, you could make every suit *but* the pilot suit have near crippling drawbacks to the vehicle performance like for example 2/3 speed, 2/3 torque, 2/3 rate of fire. The pilot suits schtick would be that they are the ones that can use vehicles to their full potential. This translates into making the dropsuit SP investment 'vehicle operation V'.
Why is this a bad way to go, y'know, apart from not giving drivers something but instead forcing them to spend SP to get back what they had... I'm coming at it from a '**** sentinel drive-bys and jihad jeeps' perspective... |
