I wondered if any of you ever tried pulling someone into dust and which arguments really worked.
Alternatively answer the following. What is it that makes Dust so great?

I'm generally one of the coolest people you could ever hope to meet. So, when people ask "what do you play", i get one of teo responses.
1) why, that game is a piece of garbage.
2) i'll give it a shot. This response morphs into response 1 within a month.
I've gotten one friend to join on a semi-consistant basis, but i credit my corp. They are generally some of the coolest people you could ever hope to meet.
Have you considered a career in costumed aggression?

Skill tree and the fact that it's free. Other than that, I don't think I could get my friends to try it out again. They did during Uprising 1.4 and quickly abandoned it. |

If you like leveling a character while playing a FPS that you could never max out with extreme customization for loadouts to do anything in the game Then DUST works for that kind of player.
Usually giving a good explanation to how everytime a mercenary dies they loose that fitting or set of items is an amazing concept for the average console gamer today to grasp.

I consider my self a Dust514 devotee. I preach its word to any one that mentions they have a ps3. I don't even try to sell my referal code any more. Mostly I just talk about some of the crazy matches I have had and all the diversity that can be found In the suits and mods. Most never make it long after academy though because of the poop match making. Nobody wants to play a game that you lose time after time after time. Besides me of course.

I have recruited 15 - 20 people and not a single one made it more than a couple hours after the academy. The sad part is all of those were before matchmaking got even worse and strongboxes became the center piece of the game. |

If you stuck around longer than a couple of days with this game, you are as unique as the game itself. It takes a lot to persevere while taking a beating for months on end. Dust players are alone in that category. This game is awesome. It's frustrating. When you get even marginally successful at it, that is an accomplishment. If you want to just plug in a game and be good at it within a few hours of game play, this is the wrong place. Anyone who appreciates any of that would enjoy this game |

It does have a lot of options so if you like trying different combinations then you are spoiled for choice
My personal reason for liking that game is that
in most other FPS I just would be a derp because I am a bad shot,
but if I choose to take a dust 514 battle seriously then I can actually be part of determining the outcome because
If I get my proto amarr logi to a good spot with a dropship then the rapid spawns are a game changer.
I am addicted to it however since dust is old, buggy and has a small player base there would have to be FPS that I would like more because there are so many choose from and there would have to be better FPS in the future . |

They don't release a new title twice per year.
It constantly gets better.
Investment has meaning.

The isk/cost factor in each pub match pushes you t be cost effective, allowing you to challenge yourself, makes the game more fun, keeps you with the game longer.
All the customizsations.
I just went 37 kills/ 4 deaths in full militia gear in a pub match

I cannot give you an honest argument for why someone should play Dust. It's a bad game.
It seriously sucks.
But I can give you some sales pitches to get someone to try it.
PITCHES -
If the player has heard about Dust and is curious about it:
1. ". . .Well, hey. Add me to PSN, when you get home, we can try it. I'll roll with you. It's a tough game, and you will need backup."
2. "I'll be honest. It has a lot of bugs, and the game isn't everything it could be; but lets play it together, you may like it! It has a distinct charm to it."
If the player has heard only negative things about Dust:
1. ". . .Well, have you played it? It's a very very exclusive game. Dust is an acquired taste, you know? Add me to PSN, and try it. I'll play with you."
2. "Dust has improved a LOT since those reviews came out. It has this great new development team working on it; that really listens to player feedback and is determined to see the game succeed. So if you try it, you may find that the reviews you've seen don't really do the game justice."
3. "Dust is a great concept, that doesn't quite execute properly on the PS3. It's too big for the console. If you played it, I'm sure you could easily see what it COULD be on a better platform. Its potential is no joke."
4. "It's actually better balanced than it has ever been before. Give it a download, add me to PSN, and we can take it for a spin."
If the player has never heard of Dust, then I don't even tell them about it.

CCP has always been horrible at NPE... They have spent the last 4 years in EVE dumbing the game down to try and make it appeal to new players.... And STILL barely explained to a new player how to actually play EVE....
That is all they have done to DUST aswell.... It's CCP's terrrrible understanding of how to teach and explain the game and the tools provided to you.
Example.. They have spent 4 years making EVE online easier and dumbing it down, ANd players still have a hard time figuring out how to get a new ship.... Some spend the entire trial period in the same rookie ship. If you can't even explain coherently to the average player in EVE how to use and buy another ship?
Then really what hope is there for CCP Shanghai if their flagship has had chronic NPE problems for a decade.
Does CCP Shanghai EVER explain what heat on a gun is? or that there is a heat build up meter? I guess we are supposed to just guess and assume?
This was a free to play game that nearly anyone with a PS3 could give a try and have an entrance point to the New Eden Galaxy... CCP Was supposed to craft their NPE and take a new player by the hand and show them how to play the game.. What the tools are and what they do.... And introduce them to the lore and splendor of the New Eden Galaxy...
CCP Shanghai's ability to wrap a new player in immersion for a few weeks is null in void.... |
