Someone definitely has to be a masochist to really enjoy Dust. Any CCP game for that matter but Dust in particular. Because it's not just the your decisions and other players hurting your gear or pocket book but it's also the broken core mechanics that push people over the edge. Yet some of us just keep coming back to the razor..... |

i've had several friends try the game and pretty much hated it. some saying its the worse fps game they've played. mainly down to the difficulty and bad matchmaking and being proto stomped, for months i've suggested ways of gamemodes that limit what meta level can be used because thats the main thing that pushes new players around. going from the academy to the general scrub pool is like taking a fish from the little bag you have it resting in and throwing it into the shark tank.
if there was some kinda Academy+ mode where vets could go with new players in and you can only use MLT gear so they can get used to the mechanics without all the try hards killing them as soon as they spawn it'd help the NPE because the amount of guys in my pub channels that are slowly getting fed up of lag, proto stomps, matchmaking and just general 'bad gamingness' of dust we'll soon have no one left. CCP should have been doing this big push 18months ago instead of the last few months of the games life

This in a nutshell.
The NPE is so bad. You get an EVE-like tutorial at the beginning. It launches players into a battle, shows them how to make a fitting, gives them a booster...
And that's it.
Furthermore, when you "graduate" Academy, the sheep is thrown in with wolves, lions, tigers (HA! Tiger scout), and bears.
The moment they hit that is a deciding point. Very few make it beyond this point and understand the full concept of what the game is.
I would add in "and what the game could be", but many people might shoot me down on this hypothetical.
We need meta lockout or something to prevent protostomping.

I tell people I play this game because it is very competitive.
There is a lot of customization
Different play styles (assault, logi, scout, heavy, tanker, pilot)
It's also free and it's fun to get in a squad and do stuff |

I squaded with a random guy the other night. He is at a couple million SP at 25 days played. He is buying boosters hand over fist. I asked him, "well, you are new. Why dust?"
And he said that he found the concept appealing. He is tired of fights with real guns on earth or semi real environments. He likes the fantastic nature of the Dust. So apparently that can be a factor. |
