Tanks and Hogs seem to be too ungainly to actively evade Forge/Plasma/Turrets etc, but Dropships seem to dodge more than not.
So my question is this, would pouring sp into my Dropship skills be worth the effort?

It's definantley worth it but if you don't like to lose ISK fast then no dont bother with it. but if you don't mind knowing that you might lose a couple pythons or incubi in one match then spend as much SP into ADSes as you want. One tip though just i case you do decide to go into ADSes, just remember that buildings are your friend don't forget to use cover whenever you are taking damage. |

Isk isn't a major problem, I'm rarely in vehicles, but those times I like to be, I don't want to get Officer AssForged immediately and die. Yes, die, I ain't like duna

They were fun till they nerfed almost all aspects of them from turrets to reps / hardners and afterburners then buffed the swarms so they chase you across the map and around buildings . ultimately they made the ads twice as weak . red line tankers still be redline sniping though lol . My advice go into tanks and rails then sit back and shoot me out of the sky seems to work out well for them... |

It's truly sad what they turned our once proud craft into. Having to run from the six people who choose to camp one area and hold down r1 and release.
Do not let that discourage you however, the few who remain are fiercely proud and deadly warriors.
To answer your question, if you can't fly worth a crap, don't touch ADS. CCP has bastardized our craft royally.

Back before all the nerfs it was quite awesome to fly around but right now It's not as worth it as it was before. If you truly feel like you're up for it then be my guest but be prepared for a lot of SP sinking and a bunch of other **** that will happen.

you need shield or armor fitting optimization 5 if your serious about it.. it's still doable. don't listen to whiny post about it being totally hopeless because it's not if you manage your AB right.. It is currently extremely hard to fly but not impossible, you've gunned for me iirc.. i'm enjoying the difficulty now because i'm sure it's gonna get FOTM again after the vehicle patch where all the "pilots" come back out from under their rocks.

Definitely something I want to get into, it's just getting the hang of the unwieldy controls. I'll manage it, mark my words. At this point, most of my sp is going into the next tier of weapon/suit so I'm looking for new ways to kill people!

yea man you just have to have that exact attitude and accept it will be a challenge. you will crash and sometimes it will be from pilot error, sometimes AV or acombination of both. if you relax and take it with a grain of salt you will learn from each time being shotdown. beyond that you can develop a 6 sense about opposing AV that comes from experience with the map. i recommend academy practice and i'm not being snooty, i do it myself. i can never get enough of it it's what brings me back to dust but yea it can get very expensive and some nights are more brutal than others.
pumping sp into dropships was probably the most rewarding sp i ever spent, but know that it can take upwards of 12mil to get any real consistency, and i'm talking 3 out of 5 good matches are going to be good.. that's about the highest mortality rate a pilot can acheive currently imo. it's worth it imo. it's very depending on your ground forces, you are fire support not the tip of the spear.
if you ever want a gunner send me a holler i'm always willing to gun and i have an understanding for it because i mainly use a gunner myself, tho my ADS is good in certain matches where i have good support. it's good at mopping up but not so good when your team is getting r4ped.. the gallente NDS is pretty beast right now. my biggest recommendation is to master NDS controls first, it's much easier on the wallet and when you have those controls down transfering to the more nimble ADS is cake.
an ADS without the vehicle upgrades to back it is like having a proto suit without core skills- kinda useless and it will be easily destroyed.. NDS is currently more forgiving.

It's fun, but at same time rage inducing and frustrating.
Only valid tactical application is removing roof campers who AREN'T running loads of AV.

It's still loads of fun but very hard on beginners . until the skills are where they should be and battle field experience teaches you which maps are more survivable then others be prepared to be shot down. I find it still has multiple applications despite its drawbacks however. My personal faves air superiority , recon , squad transport/support and getting dumb red dots to pull swarms and spend their time shooting at me while my team hacks the map out from under them . That last one is super effective and even more hilarious. Like anything else in the game practice it and you will improve I fly both of the ads and have proto level in most of the skills seems like the incubus is superior for now as I've taken to calling my 60 or so pythons my disposable ads lol . |

IKR this happens so often and then on the next update they are probably going to nerf ads again

Well if your skilling Python you don't need shield optimization at all. I haven't even bought the book for shield optimization cause to me it's just useless to spend one point of SP into it and I've been doing just fine without it. |

You'd be surprised how hard those ******* LAVs can be to hit with a Forge.
F*k this cash grab fix the shit that matters: unkillable uplinks, invisible remotes on null cannon hack panels, etc.

Being mainly a Sniper, marksmanship is what I do. Hitting an OI LAV is a piece of cake. Even more fun to do with a Plasma cannon. Swarm takes no skill whatsoever though, point, hold, release. Pah.

ADS is one of those things you have to be fully dedicated into. Dont do it unless you plan to go all in. You're either an ADS Pilot or not. There is no in between. For the longest time I go 0 SP invested into dropsuit related skills. When on the ground I only run APEX suits. I have no use for proto suits or proto weapons. I am an ADS Pilot

Unlike some dedicated vehicle users I use every other play style in the game, but maybe that's because I learnt ads through sheer challenge, just specced in and thought, I'm going to spam Python, better learn fast or I'll go broke

Ive been flying the python for 3 months. Im not the best pilot but when it comes to. Ads vs tank = Bring, it, on. I tend to do crazy turns which 99% of the time I live.
MAG Raven vet 7 times. Favorite weapon F90 and Highest Kills 78 and 23 deaths.

Fire rate got nerfed really hard; in order to take on AV before dying, you needed the incredible fire rate the passive skills offered. Then they got nerfed into the ground, and having the Incubus skill to 5 was actually counterproductive, since you overheated faster, firing fewer shots. The only good ADS pilots are the ones that have been doing it for a long time. I had both ships for a little while, but wasn't all that good with them, then when were able to buy the respec, I took all my SP out of dropships. I only put level 1 in dropship command about a week ago, because the Gordon wasn't cutting it for me.
Unless you're willing to put in half a year learning the ins and outs of both ships, learning how to fly, when to engage, how to engage, when to retreat, you'll be wasting a lot of SP and even more ISK. The hull itself is 200k - fully fit with a PRO turret and the best mods you can put on it, it'll run 350-400k ISK.

Don't bother, you need a boatload of experience to use it efficiently.
