you need shield or armor fitting optimization 5 if your serious about it.. it's still doable. don't listen to whiny post about it being totally hopeless because it's not if you manage your AB right.. It is currently extremely hard to fly but not impossible, you've gunned for me iirc.. i'm enjoying the difficulty now because i'm sure it's gonna get FOTM again after the vehicle patch where all the "pilots" come back out from under their rocks.

Definitely something I want to get into, it's just getting the hang of the unwieldy controls. I'll manage it, mark my words. At this point, most of my sp is going into the next tier of weapon/suit so I'm looking for new ways to kill people!
yea man you just have to have that exact attitude and accept it will be a challenge. you will crash and sometimes it will be from pilot error, sometimes AV or acombination of both. if you relax and take it with a grain of salt you will learn from each time being shotdown. beyond that you can develop a 6 sense about opposing AV that comes from experience with the map. i recommend academy practice and i'm not being snooty, i do it myself. i can never get enough of it it's what brings me back to dust but yea it can get very expensive and some nights are more brutal than others.
pumping sp into dropships was probably the most rewarding sp i ever spent, but know that it can take upwards of 12mil to get any real consistency, and i'm talking 3 out of 5 good matches are going to be good.. that's about the highest mortality rate a pilot can acheive currently imo. it's worth it imo. it's very depending on your ground forces, you are fire support not the tip of the spear.
if you ever want a gunner send me a holler i'm always willing to gun and i have an understanding for it because i mainly use a gunner myself, tho my ADS is good in certain matches where i have good support. it's good at mopping up but not so good when your team is getting r4ped.. the gallente NDS is pretty beast right now. my biggest recommendation is to master NDS controls first, it's much easier on the wallet and when you have those controls down transfering to the more nimble ADS is cake.
an ADS without the vehicle upgrades to back it is like having a proto suit without core skills- kinda useless and it will be easily destroyed.. NDS is currently more forgiving.

Well if your skilling Python you don't need shield optimization at all. I haven't even bought the book for shield optimization cause to me it's just useless to spend one point of SP into it and I've been doing just fine without it.
you need it for incubus.. i dont fly python so easy for me to be wrong there. but from what i see all the whining is done by low SP python pilots. doesn't really matter since they will nerf dropships again, because infantry is starting to whine that incubus is too hard to be shot down.. do you see my point?

Where is this whining you speak of? A lot of people may hate DS but I haven't seen a nerf thread in ages.
give them more time rome wasnt built over night
