as for a thicker skin - thanks for the advice. i don't think it's controversial, it's just the loudest voices are on the pro stomping side.
When a squad of proto users spawns into an Ambush and the other team, all 16, are killed in the first encounter, why doesn't that squad get bored and leave the game so they can find a better opponent?
Nobody ever says this. But it's okay for people on the losing side to get advised to quit the match and find a new one.
The winners can stomp all they want, but the losers have to leave and find a better match.
And / or "Find a Squad!" regardless of whether I'm in a squad or not.
Neither of these is a "good answer" to the problem, but they have become acceptable on this forum.
The people on this forum assume certain things and make snap judgments. Some just to get a laugh, others because they fell good, getting that next kill around a spawning area and they don't want that feeling taken away.
Is that everyone, no. Is that most people, no probably not. Is it some of the people, yes. The game works best when there is some parity in the game play. I've been on both sides of the stomping. I prefer a match that makes me work for the points. Stomping or getting stomped is not fun. |

Some of your daily rewards are directly promoting proto stomping though. If someone is to get 9,999 SP in one match they have to kill 25+ people, hack every installation at least once, heal half their team a time or two, etc., etc., etc. maybe kill 3-4-5 HAV's, solo. with a couple of people in each tank?
Know how does one do this?
Get lucky and get thrown in with a bunch of rookies with only militia or standard gear and no skills or go full on proto with a squad of equally fitted out proto gear.

Or getting 69,999 SP in a day, if you get 5,000 SP a match, that's 14 matches. each of these matches will take approx 20 minutes, so 280 minutes of game time, which does not include inbetween time.
7,000 SP that's 10 matches - 200 minutes of gametime.

Why is it a problem if people use proto gear? I use advanced gear all the time, but when I see proto gear on the other team I'll bring mine out. If you can skill into it, use it.
Back when I started this game the "stomping" was even worse (I'm around 50 mil sp). Now like I've said before, face a organized squad in ADV gear and you're with randoms you're likely to lose that match too. Gear doesn't mean too much in this game

That is the most moronic, juvinile thing anyone could ever say. Wise up CoD console kiddies, wise the f*ck up. Bad game design that encourages stalemates and one sided game play is the problem. Lack of planning on CCP's part is what created this game and why it is going away.

Thanks for reading this. The fact that more n more people leave a match when you see proto stompers. I encourage this to the fullest because if the stompers have no one to stomp against then im sure something will happen to make them stop stomping ALL the time. Id rather leave a battle to fight militia in starter suits then face stompers. they just end up chasing me around lol. |

If each match takes 20 minutes, you are getting 6,000 SP just being in the match. Pull 1,000 WP, a number I think works as 'competent player trying hard', and you are getting 8k a match. 70,000 / 8 = 9 matches, 9 x 20 = 3 hours of play. Of course, matches do not last nearly that long. Most are closer to 15 minutes or less.
6000 for just being in the match? Where the hell did you pull that made up figure from?! If I get 1000wp I end up with 4-5.5k sp at the end. I've no idea where your logic was born in those calculations |

TIMMY DAVIS wrote:Okay, so far we've had approx 15 comments on how lame I am and how great they are and/or how they dislike "people who complain about proto users." I guess it makes you feel good to anonymously make fun of people on forums, whatever, as long as there is no name calling or threats (of course using proto retards is name calling and the first time you use that word in an email at a fortune 500 type company you would be warned, the second time fired). You could just not comment at all or actually offer something useful. anyhow
One suggestion that I just go with the flow and use proto gear myself, but make a profit at it or else it doesn't make sense. I complain, but I think this was an honest attempt at helping me. I could be wrong, but I will assume it was meant to be so, so thanks.
And 2 anonymous likes.
So essentially, no help from the forums.
In general I like the idea of the daily rewards. Just not the implementation.
Thanks for reading this. I meant no insult, merely that I disagree with your premise that "daily missions are pushing people towards prototype gear." I just included my reasoning for why I used prototype gear after so long not using it because I eventually came to the reasoning that having tens of millions of isk in this game is pointless. The game itself includes enough reasons to push people towards prototype gear, namely that it has better statistics than the lower tiered gear, so I don't see how daily missions that were "gain X SP in a match" or "X SP in a day" would be the catalyst by which people start using prototype gear.
After all, people that used prototype gear before didn't need the daily missions to do so.
TIMMY DAVIS wrote: When a squad of proto users spawns into an Ambush and the other team, all 16, are killed in the first encounter, why doesn't that squad get bored and leave the game so they can find a better opponent?
Nobody ever says this. But it's okay for people on the losing side to get advised to quit the match and find a new one. The reason they do not get bored is because they are winning. People that run in full squads in ambush are there just to win mostly. They are with their friends, often over mics, so they are less likely to get bored. The "find a better game!" line is used to either give advice or as bewilderment. "If you are not having fun in that match, try another perhaps" as the advice and the bewilderment is more "Why the hell did you stay there if it was going to be so terrible?!" Neither are helpful but it is the 'silver bullet' as it is the only thing that everyone can do when in a bad game.
I have not liked Ambush since Domination was created. The central area to fight over and the larger maps means the game is less decided in about 45 seconds. The last Ambush game I played was with a few corp members; our entire team spawned within 10 meters of the enemy team, all bunched up, and they had a few guys spamming Mass Drivers. We dropped 20 clones in the first 15 seconds or so. Naturally, it was a squad of 4 people and randoms versus two full squads of people but bad initial spawning and getting spawn trapped for the first 40 clones is what really lost the game.
Cheers.

Wouldn't it be fun to be able to play an Ambush style match where you could guarantee one side didn't have more coordination than the other? Yet you could still bring your best gear and gun game? As an option, of course:

Dubya Guy wrote:As a good Logi, in an advanced suit, in a squad with 2 other advanced gear or less players, this is not at all hard in a Domination match. I may only get 1 kill , but if no one else has put out uplinks (happens now ) and my "front men" are not reckless while I am repping them, I can get over 10k SP half the time. Better players (also not wearing proto gear) could probably do it solo or as an ADS pilot or any number of other ways without using proto gear. Why only half the time? Because the other half the time, there are more squadded up players using better strategy on the other team, and MY team loses painfully. My squad will still do RELATIVELY good, but the coordination by more players on the other side wins the day. Coordination > Game Experience > GearThat's why I think all the talk of trying to "fix" proto-stomping by sorting players into battle according to gear is going about the "problem" bass-ackwards. You will still have experienced players coordinating their efforts in MILITIA gear totally owning a random collection of nooberries. If you want more of the matches to be competitive, CCP should do things to encourage new players to join a corp and learn from experienced players, introduce a "Platoon" game mode, and/or add training in squadding to an extended academy experience.Warning, controversial statement : Solo play in Dust should be for the extremes...foolish nooberries and elite-skilled pros. I am no longer the first and may never be the second.

*wait for people to hide their 800ehp+ proto suits w/protofits behind their own totally leet skills, completely disregarding any thoughts of the artifical stacking against new players*
OH WAIT!
It may not be the only thing that causes crap matches, but it's the one thing that can be changed easily. Currently, DUST Newbies are considered to be lower then a level one in WoW. They are worthless because of the artifical stacking that takes place between standard and proto gear. Proto gear has twice the HP of what newbies can muster, with the extra damage that proto guns add.
Proto gear is better in every single way then standard gear. It's artificially stacking the deck against new guys and towards older player. No, it isn't the only thing that is causing this, but it is such a huge modifier to the issue that it takes simply being better and makes it so I am no longer just better at playing, I also am literally better. More HP, More damage, more fitting resources.
Proto at this point is only a sources of false depth. It is obviously unbalancing, but it's kept to appese people who want that depth dust promised, but found tiers instead
I am the bluedot. And I will rise again.

honestly that whole organised squad thing doesnt matter at all..
the game is not about squad play. its about TEAM Play. and when AN ENTIRE TEAM is in full proto. they are essentially UNBEATABLE by anything else. its stupid.
being "organised" has nothing to do with this. because "tactics" dont exist now in this damn game. hell they probably never did.
normally the counter to proto with lower tiers is to overwhelm them with quantity. but thats nearly impossible to do since the whole team is in full proto.
if its redesigned to where it sucks horrible in all but one area. it wouldnt be as bad.
or somewhere along those lines.
if only we could pilot the mcc.
id end the matches real quick.
