If so i feel sorry for you and dont take this personal, I know CCP said they will be salvagable but we all know they aren't.

Reminds me of EA. In NHL this year they advertised a promo pack of cards with a chance of pulling (forgot which player), turned the ad on but didn't actually release the card at all lol. People still invest hundreds even thousands on the game though.

Anyway I spent 600 AUR on a key and got 9 flying scotsman cal assaults (fitted suit, can't use it coz need skills lol). They sell for ~11K ISK each.

So out of everyone who's posted in this topic, only ONE key has been gotten from the eom screen? These boxes are becoming more and more the worst thing about the update. I play for about 8 hours a time when I can. Still not a single key from eom, or a box for that matter, just the same stupid adv gear I'll never use. |

Im gonna make some wild guesses here.
1. Strongboxes are for selling AUR. (not much guessing on that one)
2. Daily missions are meant to reward people who actually play as oppose to AFK.
3. Daily missions are an excellent way to train new players in the game a little bit.
Assuming these are correct guesses on some of the intended goals would it not be better to drop the "random" salvage aspect and either base it on a ratio or participation (matches / wins /kills / warpoints) or just drop it from the idea of salvage completely and improve that system while giving out more keys in missions and maybe even as a daily login bonus.
FEEDBACK
Aside from the key drops we are discussing here I really enjoy the overall system. Missions give you something to think about in matches aside from the repetitive nature of run, shoot, and hack. They are a nice distraction and I am sure they will help with NPE quite a bit. |

I don't see why everyone is complaining. The strong boxes seem to have a bout a 10-20% officer drop rate, which i FAR better than in match (especially since you can get 4 per box). 200 aur per officer weapon is a win in my books. What is that, 10 cents? |

I got one hacked encryption box key (I think that's what it was) with a yellow'ish icon with brighter spots of yellow or orange on it I don't remember and I got that within the first 3 matches I played on update day.

The idea of lockboxes/items that drop from battle and need to be unlocked/decoded/ect. is not a new concept in general. Diablo, Destiny, Phantasy Star Online, Torchlight, ect. ect. It's a common idea, all "copy pasted with a twist" from each other.

Picked up 5 strongboxes as salvage in my second battle today and nothing else. That was actually the first time I've received them as salvage, and picked up another two or three battles afterwards. Still waiting on the first key...

Give me boosters and/or SP dumps (as in, you unlock the box and immediately gain 20k sp) and I will consider purchasing AUR or grinding out matches to obtain them. Gear, even the good stuff, is not relevant to me. I build my fits for sustainability. No point in making an uber suit if I can only use when the RNG Gods align correctly for me thrice over.

All these are correct and describe the intent fully. The mainstay was to increase new player retention, and provide goals for intermediate players. Veteran players can acquire rare weapons and gear. We plan to add to this lifetime merits or achievements, hopefully we can implement a lifetime stats with goodies like "heavies killed", vehicles destroyed etc

Over the past 3 days of playing for a total of maybe 15 or 20 hours, I have received 1 Key.
Out of the 3 days for a chance of 30 missions, I have yet to receive a mission to earn a Key.
At this point, I've pretty much given up on receiving anymore Officer loot.

Aside from the key drops we are discussing here I really enjoy the overall system. Missions give you something to think about in matches aside from the repetitive nature of run, shoot, and hack. They are a nice distraction and I am sure they will help with NPE quite a bit. All these are correct and describe the intent fully. The mainstay was to increase new player retention, and provide goals for intermediate players. Veteran players can acquire rare weapons and gear. We plan to add to this lifetime merits or achievements, hopefully we can implement a lifetime stats with goodies like "heavies killed", vehicles destroyed etc
I dunno about Veteran players acquiring rare weapons and gear. Most of the stuff is just Aurum trash that I wind up selling to the Market Agent because it's just too much of a pain in the butt to restock in the heat of the battle. Keys get kind of expensive when compared with just how many salvage boxes we get and the chances of getting Officer stuff just isn't worth the gamble.
My suggestions:
- Switch out the aurum stuff for ISK variants
- Reduce frequency of salvage boxes
- Alternatively, reduce price of keys
Sorry, but I think this is mostly another feature that appeals to players with lots of liquid finances to throw around. For the rest of the community, it's just more asset bloat that will continue to pile up until changes are made.

What about a salvage skill? Increases the likelihood of getting high-level salvage, etc. Of course, if you guys are planning on implementing an actual battlefield salvage role (YES, PLEASE) then this isn't really feasible

I feel incredibly lucky now, I actually got 2 keys in a single pub match, I think I placed 3rd place in the match and we lost so I'm pretty sure it's random lol.
Feedback:
I understand that I'm going to end up with hundreds of boxes to keys ratio as its trying to incentivize me to spend aurum for keys but here's why I don't feel it's solid. One of the boxes I opened gave me 13 Neo Scout C-1s. I looked at the market value and that's 780 aurum. The keys cost 800 aurum. If it's absolute chance that you will get something you can actually use (IE. I haven't gotten anything that I've wanted from any of the boxes so far, which is likely as I just use minmitar stuff) they should at least on the low end give you as much in aurum as the keys cost. If player trading becomes something soon then this is much less of a concern. But for now, I see no reason to spend aurum on the massive pile of boxes I have when there's a chance not only that I won't get anything I want but that I could get what I want for cheaper directly from the store. I did get one set of Minmitar medium suits that I like to wear in my quarters so it's not all bad. I just don't see any reason to spend aurum on keys as they cost quite a bit in comparison to the random aspect. You can actually lose value in keys or just spend aurum getting exactly what you want, so I for one won't be buying any anytime soon. The officer thing is kind of meh to me. I'm just stockpiling officer weapons to sell for player trading anyways, same goes if I end up with officer suits. Those things are far too rare to use in battle, only one I normally see anyways is the Thales due to the ability to hide in the red line and use it. I'd rather sell officer weapons for vehicle/proto spam then to use it once and probably kill two people before getting dogpiled. |

Not to be the guy that seems like he's trying to defend the company unreasonably, but you don't have to play the lottery unless you really want officer drop suits, which meh, would you ever use them if they cost an aurum tank each? I'd say if you enjoy the game then buy some bpo's that's what I did too. Just open boxes with the keys you get in salvage and in dailies if you don't want to spend aurum, I know I won't. I got some officer weapons yesterday in salvage so no they haven't been removed from salvage. You can get keys and officer weapons from eom I can confirm. |

Just give it time man, it's only day 4 of them existing. I didn't get any day 1, I got 1 from a mission day 2, and I got 2 from EOM on day 3. It's gotta be just as rare if not more rare to get keys as officer weapons so don't expect to see them often. Boxes on the other hand, keep falling from the sky. |

The strongboxes are ment for you to go on the easy way by spending real cash for the keys. ive had a note from a "inside leak" that this is purely intentional and the sole purpose of adding those strongboxes is to give players a incentive to buy the keys for AUR. Because its so hard to obtain keys and so easy to get strongboxes the players perception is that buying keys is the most comfortable way to go with.
Im not stating who my source is but hes reliable and another hint: more vehicle BPO's are on the horizon and no i dont mean LAV's.

The Pavlovian response will be much stronger if the reward incentive is greater. After opening about 10 boxes and having a militia heavy preloaded fit (the defender mk g2 or some nonsense, oh and out of 3 boxes no less) being the best thing I've received, I honestly could care less about the boxes.
I know that officer weapons in every box is stupid, but lower the chance of getting militia and advanced gear. If not the drive to get keys will disappear except in new players, and players that didn't have any sense to begin with. I know taking money from dummies is easy but roping in the smart ones is much more profitable.
Oh and the numbers are terrible too. If I were given 100 stacks of a proto suit I don't use, at least the ISK reward in selling it would be worth it.

Lifetime achievements would be amazing and likely a great way to get people to skill into certain things that are efficient at chasing one of those goals, assuming the prize is big enough. Something like this that provides an actual long term goal in Dust for anyone that is playing would be great for everyone from new players to vets.
Also if you could convert those in to PSN trophies so that we can compare with each other the already great social aspect of this game would go t a new level.

My first 5 keys that I bought for 800 each to test the system gave great rewards. (Day 1 within 8 hours of release)
My next key that I bough 2 instant SP boosts for gave me crap.
My next 10 keys bought in the bundle yielded crap.

I doubt they're not going to let us open these boxes without incentivising the purchase of keys.
I'm going to guess that eventually we can open the boxes, but it might be a destructive process which will drastically lower the chances of getting the gear at all once opened and even then, the gear might become damaged and automatically drops a metalevel- an officer weapon automatically becomes just a prototype and such. |

Keys in Salvage are really damn hard to get and I think it needs an increase. From what I can tell the 1 or 2 keys we got were just a glitch or something

ya lol and i got 2 keys today and i got aurum basic light damage mods and aurum adv armor rep. But im happy about the omega booster. Gonna use it on mil clone challenge (if theres a next one)
