That seems very legitimate :) When I meant strength however, I mostly meant it for my legs because I have a very weak whip kick. I'll definitely take the Cardio in mind though :) As a lifeguard, what tips would you give to someone besides what you just said?

Guess you can do the lame cardio then =ƒÿ¬. Running/swimming. I actually enjoy swimming, it's a good healthy habit to get into. FYI don't worry bout the girls do what you want first then when you're ready it'll happen. I'm 20 and single so I guess I'm not one to give advice but at the same time I have everything I could want. i uh... i didn't expect you to cut me straight on that one, to be honest, so i'm gonna do it right back
look into fashion, not like fall trends or whatever, but get your color coordinating down. Unless you're going full punk (which is fine!) you probably don't want to wear too much black. Casual button up shirts are a great thing to have handy to always fall back on.
learn to dance. you don't have to fit in on the set of Step Up but when you hear a Top 40 song you should be able to do more than just sway and pick up your feet. you'll need to learn some basic rhythm - listen to some easy EDM and move to more complicated beats as you learn to listen for different basslines. Once you have rhythm down, big movements are usually best, it can be hard to do subtle.
get your shaving down well. pick up a straight razor and learn to do that if you wanna be like an awesome cowboy, but the other safe option is wet shaving in general - you're looking for a safety razor, a shaving brush and shaving cream.
the hope is that following these directions will increase your confidence (it will) as well as making you presentable and both of those will let your ~*inner self*~ shine through.
i hope you enjoyed my workout advice |

Eat 80% of your body weight in grams of protein per day.
Drink gallons of water.
Make processed sugars like candy, soda, and cake a weekly treat, not daily.

Definitely this. Works the whole body in between those two. Helps most with your kicks and strengthens the deltoids, although if its life guard you are mostly going to use your legs... My test involved me holding weights on my chest with my hands and using only feet to swim... But no matter that in between deadlift and olympic lift you got most your body covered

i've been doing mma for four years and if you are going to do that off top i would mix land based cardio routines with at least 40 min's of swimming, i was never a tadpole but cardio is king with any physical activity and light repititions of a full body exercise like dead lifts. and if you are on a beach or near an ocean cardio cardio cardio how can you save someone if you burn out before you get to them.

If you really want to do some leg work, do your cardio AFTER your deadlifts and squats.
Airdyne bikes are good for both cardio and HIIT as they are pretty full bodied and offer more resistance the faster you go.

The amount of Broscience in this thread is amazing. Like worse then a bodybuilding.com thread LMFAO. Are Deads and Back squats important? Absolutely! However, they're a more advanced movement no novice should tackle until a solid foundation is built .
Here is my advice bud, get a membership at a gym. Go to a trainer and express your concerns and situation. Their advice will be better then anything a gaming forums can give you.

Second this. Given that the OP is 16, I'm assuming he is in high school. Depending on the size of the school, there may be resources available including access to a workout facility. There is also a decent chance that someone on the staff has experience and relevant professional credentials to help. I would suggest that you seek out a qualified trainer/fitness professional, particularly if you have access for free. Learning proper form, particularly for power lifting and Olympic lifting exercises, requires proper expertise and supervision.

Bodybuilding.com, the archived articles are good reads, stay out of the forums, weeding through the opinions to find facts is impossible. Everyone has their own plan.
Like someone mentioned 2 weeks isn't gonna cut it. Its more of a everyday lifestyle to maintain. You can work out for a year, but as soon as you take a break, you start losing. More than a full week off can wreck any gains you've made.
Eating right is the hardest part. I used to think you had to watch what you ate and stick to a crappy diet. Wrong, I have to force myself to eat even when I'm not hungry. Red beans and brown rice 5 times a day. Not including meals. Good breakfast, good lunch, good dinner, protein drinks 3 times a day, beans and rice, beans and rice, beans and rice.
Why beans and rice? Animal protiens take a while to break down in your digestive system. Red beans and brown rice contain the full spectrum of proteins and amino acid necessary for building muscle, as well as being a plant based and more quickly broken down and absorbed by the body. Meats offer the full spectrum as well but take a lot longer to break down and absorb.
Dammit, its turning into a wall of text. I can go on and on, as working out or (lifting brah) is one of my top hobbies. But, Dusters dont want to hear me ramble about what works for me. Hope you do well, and get into and stick with getting and staying fit. 20 yrs from now when people you went to school with see you and you look just as young as you did in highschool it makes you feel good. I haven't aged in 20 yrs and am far more fit than I ever was in HS. The human body is one hell of a complex and amazing machine. Good luck w your endeavors and stick with it. |

Im a semi-pro swimmer, and a lifeguard too (and teacher, and coach), and ive always found that traditional weightlifting excercises followed by a swim followed by either a run/bike ride works best. Keeps you fit, gives you stamina, and not too big, as a lifeguard shouldnt need to be massive. :)
