I agree you should have to keep your name as your nickname and you should only be able to change your name once. At the same time sometimes I wish my real name was something a little more awesome like Mufasa!  |

Well, normally, I'd say no also - the reasoning being the New Eden universe is important and names meaning something.
Now, IDGAF. CCP has made it apparent that Dust is just a shooter now, loosely based on the EVE lore, and not the grand vision we were first sold.
With that in mind? CCP should take the money. Your name means nothing anymore and will mean nothing again until Legion is (maybe) released.
Of course, this assumes that the TQ Database wouldn't take a massive $hit by allowing name changes.
edit: Oh, and if no one else has figured it out, these new BPO suits are two fold - 1) to get our money and 2) to try out the new BP suit / skill tree for legion |

You cannot change your name in New Eden. Your name matters and you are known by your name. Changing your name means you can hide from people which is not good.

I'm kinda torn. On one hand something badass like "Beer-Face Napalm" or "Chainsaw Abortion" would be great to have. But on the other hand "Chimichanga66605" is pretty great & its hilarious when people join my squad with utter confusion on how to say it....then they get hungry. Good times.

In truth, this is not really a reasonable statement anymore. "We exist in the same universe as another IP, that IP doesn't have X, so we shouldn't have X" is essentially the argument. I know I simplified it but I hope I kept the spirit of it. If I have not, please let me know and I will rectify the statement and still try to keep my point.
In EVE, BPO's are used to build stuff. In DUST, they are free things that never run out. Sure, you could state that all suits and weapons are nanite paste and when we buy an Assault Rifle we are really buying a 'license to print an Assault Rifle' so a BPO is just a never ending license but that is STILL vastly different than what it is for EVE.
In EVE, there are no respecs. In DUST, they cost a little less than 20 dollars.
In EVE, there is friendly fire everywhere. In DUST, this is not the case for public matches and most definitely should stay that way for the game to function decently.
In EVE, Plates and Shield Extenders give the same amount of HP for the right sizes. The difference is that there exists an Extra Large Plate while there is not one Shield Extenders. Shield users get the Extra Large Booster instead. (My memory is foggy as I have not played EVE in years but that was the case when I played.)
In EVE, skill are queued to train. In DUST, we are given unallocated Skill Points.
In EVE, 625k ISK will buy you a weak, non-fitted spaceship that breaks the Theory of Relativity by going ~2,400 times faster than light (5 AU a second warp) and has a mass of 1.113 million kilograms. Hell, a ship that has similar mass and speed is given to free to every Capsuleer that docks without a ship. In DUST, that same price would buy two of my Dropships that are capable of flying I think 250 kilometers an hour, are not equipped for space flight, and can be taken by Infantry anti-vehicle weapons. Clearly our money is not on the same scale despite us sharing the same universe.

I could see it being used by unsavory types for corp theft and greifing which may be interesting from an emergent gameplay aspect. Moderation may become a concern but the GMs and DEV could pull up private lists for prior aliases attached to the network.
It may be interesting to have player pay a blackmail protection fee routinely to keep their aliases from being displayed on their show info page.

For example you could scam and rip off people..which ccp supports and change ur name and get rid of that nasty reputation as a scammer or awoxer...or..saboteur whatever they are ..
Ccp supports the meta for trolling they support player trolling and theft and such ..but as far as I know they don't let you change your name in eve..for this reason and shouldn't let you change it in dust for the same reason ..
This thread was made in beta ..and..it was massively shot down ..for reasons more detailed than what my drunkin slurs provide you ..

Anyway, you can always see the PSN name via player details, so no espionage/infiltration worries really. I think EVE is exploring a similar thing but then you need the character name history to be publicly available to make espionage harder.

In eve name changes would be simple as character history can be viewed in depth.
In Dust it is hard to say as the only available is PSN name and not everyone can memorize a persons Dust name AND PSN name.
No matter what huge thumbs up for name changes in both games. I know it can be made to work without increased espionage risk. The only issue I see is how long a persons old name should be locked from re registering.
