A short ranged turret will never work because in the range you have to be in to kill them, a few AV grenades and you're toast. That, or you'll be shot out of the turret

If anything I think they should function more like a large blaster. Slower projectiles that have more mass to them with a less damage. While the Large Blaster should have its projectiles altered to be as plasma cannon rounds.
I know it would be a difficult fix and not really suitable but I know I'd certainly use Small Blasters on my HAV more if they were more reliable in terms of damage per shot.

The front position is TERRIBLE and the only way to get the top turret is to fit two small turrets. The top turret position isn't a load of butt.

You could probably take a page out of the Halo series in regards to vehicle turrets. In fact, allowing turret gunners the option to switch to third-person like the driver can would help with at least helping the gunners aim better if it helps them at all.

Having two turrets up on the cuppola would be poor HAV design. If anything they could bring it further up the front hull of the HAV instead of having it hang off the front and reduce its horizontal axis to 90-120 degrees.

There's a lot of hit detection issues with blasters and rails (still). Part of the issue is the increasing dispersion while firing. Another part is slow weapon turning speeds.
I'd love to see something like a slightly lower dmg HMG put on top of a vehicle, or a heavy autocannon (model the blaster after the new officer HMG).

In short, increase a persons ability to turn them. A LAV with a blaster should be a *terrifying* anti-infantry weapon it *should* be used to kill LOTS of people. This makes it kind of a rock paper scissors thing where tank > lav > infantry > tank.

Easy for you to say when you don't have a 700k Tank at risk. If there is any wandering AV units -- They must be handled accordingly ASAP. Every second puts you further at risk of an ambush.
Small blasters do suck. Even the mini Ion Cannon can't effectively kill infantry. There is not a strategic fit to use with them as guns for your tank to use as a Anti-Vehicle/ Anti-Personnel cross. It needs more range & less dispersion to compensate for the fire rate. It just sprays bullets everywhere making it an ammo sink & if you're playing Doms with it -- You're screwed cause 75% of the maps don't even have depots on the ground that can be accessed by tanks. I think it really could use a Range Buff with DMG Buff or Range Buff with a Dispersion Buff.
Why put Mini Ion Cannons when I can put XT's to damage armor or Mini Particle Cannons to wreck shields without fail & have cross fits that are meant to suppress or killl infantry as well? (Seriously the Caldari rail doing so much damage to shields is stupid. Its a spearhead to penetrate armor, Not shields. Bring back the Gal Rail for shields so this can make better sense & fix the proficiency.) I will say, The Mini Ion Cannon is a little better when it got a buff(?) in one of the Alpha-Delta patches. I say that because it used to be way worse & you just couldn't go anywhere but up from that point.
Added note:
If Enforcers & Marauders come back, They are going to be OP with the current LRG Turret DMG base. Its gonna take 3 Spiked Gunnlogis just to take out one Falchion/Vayu or Sagaris/Surya because they will have bonuses to improve turret performance or the slots for defense. --Hope CCP really does look at that before releasing the old tanks again. But like I said before, Changing base damages on LRG Turrets means more rework for Rail Vs. Dropship & so on. I don't know what CCP will do. I made a thread on this, But CCP never looked at it I suppose. Its a serious issue they will have to face. I really want my old tanks to return & I hope CCP does the right thing with keeping vehicles balanced along with AV users too.

You made some amazing fixes to the small blaster turrets. I think that it might be time to tweak range and damage, maybe even include a sharpshooter skill ( sharpshooter sounds nice ). The small blaster even at proto level does not do enough damage to be better than a regular weapon and you still jave to spend the same sp on it. I respecced out of proto blaster turrets because it was a dead skill.
The turret is not effective neither on dropships or tanks. I can't justify spending sp on a proto turret that is less effectove than my dren assault rifle, even before i respecced into ars.
I have said before that a 15% damage increase makes the proto blaster turret marginally more viable but, even so, that 15% damage increase does not make it a more suitable weapon than the missile or rail turrets.
I would even say to keep the range the same as long as it gets a significant damage increase above the 15% mark. Each tier should be at least as effective as its assault rifle counterpart in terms of ttk.
BLASTER FLAWS
- Applied damage: any weapon can outdps the small blaster turret at its intended range. Evene with a 15% damage mod, the proto blaster turret felt marginally usefull compared to rails or missiles
- Overheat: This aspect feels like it was balanced towards gunners who had incubus V. Before the second batch of blaster fixes ( when the hmg style sights came out) gunners with level v incubus and and pilots with level v incubus did not overheat. After the second round ( when it was fixed so ut didnt disappear), both gunners and pilots would overheat at level v incubus.
Balancing overheat based on a maxed out incubus gunner ppilot combo made the ovwrheat in other vehicles unbearably fast. This is a big problem because combined with its low applied damage, it creates a situation where the gunner has to pause too much to make any difference in tge engagement.
- Effective distance: what is never taken into consideration with the type of sights that this turret has is that dispersion more than halfs the dps of the turret. Increasing the range does not translate into more dps but that the small amount of bullets that hit at range will do their complete damage. The dispersion takes care of giving it effective ranges.
- Dispersion: its way too large for the small blaster turret. Reducing it or adding a sharpshooter skill qould work wonders.
At the least the small blaster turret needs a damage increase that is higher than 15% to make it feel worthwhile.

I've made it no secret I feel that Large Turrets should have a limited field to being primarily AV turrets (they will need to be if Marauders and Enforcers come out with those extra module slots and 10K plus EHP) but still be able to skill shot infantry despite slow tracking speeds, and limited barrel depression leaving HAV hulls assailable by AV units.
To counter AV units HAV pilots should be incentivised to make use of vehicle gunners and Small Turrets designed to chew up and push off Infantry units.

Not sure if it would require a client update but Ive been asking for turret shields for a long time. We could use LAVs as suppression platforms if they defended the gunner a little better.
Small Blasters themselves have always been better with a little splash damage, which we got back recently. Its easier to aim at the target's feet and kill them with splash then to try and kill them conventionally.
ADS it needs more range (a lot more) to be functional as you have to be so close that you cant see anything or they just throw AV nades at you x3
All-in-all, more range and better hit detection (not necessarily code-wise) are what it needs IMO.

Small blaster hit detection is the major issue I have found.
When it hits, the enemy is evaporated but it is still very wonky in hit detection.
A range buff might also be useful for reasons already stated in this thread.
CCP holds the Caldari's hand so this doesn't happen again.

Its gonna take 3 Spiked Gunnlogis just to take out one Falchion/Vayu or Sagaris/Surya because they will have bonuses to improve turret performance or the slots for defense. --Hope CCP really does look at that before releasing the old tanks again. But like I said before, Changing base damages on LRG Turrets means more rework for Rail Vs. Dropship & so on. I don't know what CCP will do. I made a thread on this, But CCP never looked at it I suppose. Its a serious issue they will have to face. I really want my old tanks to return & I hope CCP does the right thing with keeping vehicles balanced along with AV users too. It's almost hilarious how the tanks are set up now, I wish we could have a weeklong "test" hotfix where tanks have their HPs increased by 300%, but their regens are dropped to the 30-50/s area, with all reps going to their old system(but keep the new booster)
Tanks complain they pop too easy, AV complains that tanks run away and come back too quick at full health. Why not solve both? Albeit most likely not the best fix, it would solve tanks outstaying their welcome with only a 5-15 second break in between, and instead make them think of how they're going to make it to repair.
