I've observed that I have been repeatedly placed into public matches where the opposition consists primarily of prototype scouts. I've noticed that even though I see the small splash marks indicating round impact on the opposite player suits, nothing happens to the scout as long as they wiggle their clone just a little. I've been using the Breach Assault Rifle since first discovering the game at the beginning of the year and maxing the skill points on this weapon. Being in a point blank distance makes very little difference as they simply start running backwards. The speed given to these suits appears to be the same as some vehicles. The cloak ability provided adds to many lazily cloaking near spawn points and easily running to shoot players in the back. I can't understand why this would be fun for these players as it is likely not challenging in play. The only reason I continue to play is for that rare match where everyone seems to want to legitimately play the game as intended and it runs as a long evenly matched contest. |

Horrible hit detection aren't exclusive to scouts.
Also, the weapons with the worst detection are the rail (Caldari) ones and the shotgun (Gallente). |

It only takes a couple of lagging scouts to ruin a match. Players head for the hills, and it's hard to get them back down.
CCP needs to sort their match making out. Create a "laggers" pool and let them try to get each other.

+1 as long as we can hop into the laggers matches and troll them from time to time.
Also
Hit detection issues may not be limited to scouts. Scouts get the biggest advantage thanks to their hitbox size and their movement speed. This may not be their fault but there are certainly tons of people running scouts just to take advantage of this.

I'm using a Breach Scrambler Pistol to deal with scouts.
The Breach Scrambler Pistol doesn't care about hitdetection.
I am hitting the scouts even if my aim is totally off with the Breach Scrambler Pistol.
Also, last time I used the Breach AR I thought it was a good weapon to deal with scouts, especially Cal and Min.
Hit detection is still wonky, for all suits.

Don't expect to get much sympathy from those running scouts. They are having their moment in the sun, and most of them measure their manhood by their KDR. They will never admit that the game is still massively tilted in their favor and that they are playing "easy mode".
Some things you can do that help in game. - Try listening for them (a good surround sound system or headphones help with this). Listening for footsteps or remote explosives being dropped is your best bet, don't bother listening for the uncloaking sound as by the time you hear it the shotgun blast is already on the way (unless the scout is a noob). - Run in squads, this will keep some of them at bay but others will just frisbee remote explosives in your midst while you are engaging opponents. - Check your six regularly. Of course, their EWAR advantage means they know when you are doing this so once again this only works against noob scouts. - Play more ambush as opposed to the objective based game modes. Objectives are a scout's paradise. They hide somewhere near an objective and wait to see you on their radar. Once they know you are either hacking or facing in the opposite direction... You know how this ends. - Try to engage them at distance. Up close, their straffing makes them nearly un-hitable.
Some things you can do to help with not being too discouraged. - Ignore posts that say cloaked scouts are easy to see, these people are trolling. - Have faith that the numbers being crunched BY CCP Rattati will reveal the truth and he will continue to try and balance scouts.
Basically the above will help you kill some scouts, and deal with the frustration of the current meta. That said, if all else fails, you can purchase a re-spec to become a scout and partake in "easy mode" DUST. Once everyone does this, CCP can officially rename the game "SCOUT 514".

Yep scanners and just look for them. Pretty simple and people like this making mass long posts not only insulting a class but just ranting does nothing for the game. |

If I were a strategic businessman with little ethics, I would wait until a ton of frustrated persons pay this new $20 "Re-Spec" fee to become a scout and then make them really suck; forcing everyone to pay another fee for the next flavor of the month. My only question is, where is the "enough people switched to scout" limit before the mass nerf.

@OP A scout's cloak isn't OP, don't believe me? Run a Cal Scout C - 1 (Not C/-1) w/ federation shotgun and basic cloak, watch how fast you're detected without a scan, hell if a few bullets graze your shoulder you enter 'run or die' mode. @Za'ki Scouts wear lighter dropsuits than heavies, logis, and assaults and thus should be able to move faster in them, this mean sidestepping too.

Cloak should drop when within 10 meters of anybody friend or foe and then have to recharge. Make it more like the EVE ship cloak. Make it a maneuvering thing and a scout thing, not a ninja thing and an attack crutch.

1) Well, anyone who is in a stream of bullets should be plenty visible. And this actually follows into...
2) you are wrong. Cloaking, in EVE, is deactivated if anyone comes within a certain radius of you (2km I believe) - scaled down to DUST this'd probably be about 20m. More reasonably, deactivation upon the reception of damage makes plenty of sense: stealth is gone when bullets are flying, you should either fight or disengage to recloak.

4) Again on the 20m subject, I use my cloak mainly for what I like to call 'recon' as I sit still while cloaked and give my squad orders. several times I have been within inches of an enemy (Ak.0 commandos mostly, sometimes a logi) that I ignore as long as I possibly can or normally give an order to attack the enemy, yes my cloak runs out sometimes right after they pass and sometimes when they are passing, but compared to the 20m idea, they would notice me the second they are within 20m, which would mean death to me and probably a lot of cloak users.

I'd probably say that it would drop the cloak to half charge (so immediately able to reactivate) if above, and just decloak if below half. The cloak is a stealth tool: it should be used to get close to, not to get inside of, someone. 20m is covered by a base Scout in about 2-3s: only Knives need to be at 2m, and they shouldn't be used from the front while Shotguns have plenty of range after a second of sprinting.

Friendly fire and self-inflicted damage should both definitely cause decloak.

Indeed, I have also had the same experience (although I have just respec'd out of GalScouts) but the thing is, this game has a lore and in that lore we have the EVE cloaks where ours are drawn from: Capsuleers lose cloak when an enemy comes close because at such short ranges the cloak interference with EWar reveals the position.
Essentially, you can use a cloak to get close, but it should not substitute for actual, proper stealth ability: it should be a tool to enhance stealth prowess, not replace it. Being revealed within 20m does not mean that you are noticed: you should have positioned yourself such that people do not walk right through your position.

I have no problem with self inflicted damage, but the friendly fire does impose a problem as in FW any scout could get caught in a blueberry's fire and be decloaked, perhaps even killed. While you could die even without the decloak, you would probably be killed by enemies if you survive (An ADV ACR will chew up any scout, from my experiences) or if the scout is fired on by a frightened blue (I've shot my own team before because they come running around the corner while cloaked) then say an enemy see the scout auto decloak (Say using a Rail or a Sniper) The scout will be 'wounded' and will be a easy target for the red. Besides the cloak already lights up like a christmas tree when moving/hit, so why take the ability to stay cloaked?

That said, if all else fails, you can purchase a re-spec to become a scout and partake in "easy mode" DUST. Once everyone does this, CCP can officially rename the game "SCOUT 514". Run active scanners
Daily reminder that scanning does not counter scouts because any scout suit with a proper fit can evade any scan in the game. |

Some things you can do that help in game. - Try listening for them (a good surround sound system or headphones help with this). Listening for footsteps or remote explosives being dropped is your best bet, don't bother listening for the uncloaking sound as by the time you hear it the shotgun blast is already on the way (unless the scout is a noob). - Run in squads, this will keep some of them at bay but others will just frisbee remote explosives in your midst while you are engaging opponents. - Check your six regularly. Of course, their EWAR advantage means they know when you are doing this so once again this only works against noob scouts. - Play more ambush as opposed to the objective based game modes. Objectives are a scout's paradise. They hide somewhere near an objective and wait to see you on their radar. Once they know you are either hacking or facing in the opposite direction... You know how this ends. - Try to engage them at distance. Up close, their straffing makes them nearly un-hitable. Some things you can do to help with not being too discouraged. - Ignore posts that say cloaked scouts are easy to see, these people are trolling. - Have faith that the numbers being crunched BY CCP Rattati will reveal the truth and he will continue to try and balance scouts. I've always had problems with the Rail Rifle, Magsec, and Bolt when it comes to hit detection. ESPECIALLY the Bolt.

If you want to get scouts nerfed, I suggest using actual data (you know, graphs and the like?), tests, using suits against and with the scout to actually come up with decent feedback.
I want to being the scout suits in line with others as much as the next guy, but none of your posts even deserve attention when it comes to scouts. |
