What is wrong with you??? I used to have 5 rounds in my magazine and now its 3. I used to have 31 max ammo, and now its 19!!!! what?!!?! and the range is ridiculous!!! i can throw my rifle farther!! why would you do this??? |

Judging by what people are saying, redline sniping is still an issue though...

Seriously, stfu, losing some shots overall for such a grossly incandescent boost to damage is more than fair. In fact, I would vouch for even a bit more of a range decrease. Maybe 25m less? Still appears to be a decent number of NeoPLaZM SaTuRNs out there (redline snipers). |

On many maps snipers can still sit in the redline and hold down points which I see as a major issue. All play styles need to fit the risk/reward matrix or the game will not be fun. Sitting on the redline all but eliminates risk.
I'm sure the sniper rifle will get changed more in future hotfixes.

With this range nerf that encourages aggressive sniping, I hope they reduce scope sway.

Yep just one-shotted a 1600 HP suit from deep redline with a charge. Surprised me, but now I am not very happy about it. Just means that everyone is now as annoying as a thales was, while being ONLY 150m deep in the redline instead of 300 meters.

You've met with a terrible fate.
I'm really not sure what else you were expecting, coming on the forums and saying the new range is absolutely horrible when it's not that bad. The headshot and damage buffs allow most of the rifles to one shot a vast majority of suits if you're any good. Of course, if you suck at sniping, you're going to have a difficult time lining up those shots.
And there are plenty of spots that allow you a good vantage point while not being in the redline. Try scouring the map next time with a cheap fit to find them.
Nova Knives are best sidearm.

You don't need to be on top of the objective to effectively snipe, but you don't have to bury yourself in the redline either. I've been sniping since open beta and haven't redline sniped in over 6 months once I realized how completely useless it was. There are just so many more opportunities to really contribute if you are closer to the objective and not sitting back in the redline hiding. There is usually a better field of vision which means more opportunities for kills as well as a chance to contribute in other ways (I've sniped a null cannon from 150 meters, cleaned it out, then ran up and hacked it and got back to my position before getting killed. I also dropped an uplink and some nanohives on the objective to allow my team to spawn in and KEEP said objective.)

Also, a note to redline snipers. Well, a question really.... Why? Where is the fun and thrill in doing this? Half the fun of Sniping is being silent and hidden, out in the open, knowing if you are found you are going to get whacked. I love the thrill of the Snipe because I need to keep watch on my 6 occasionally and check my flanks for an LAV to drive up on me or a Shotgun/NK scout come up. Watch some of the Top Sniper videos on the Military channel. Those guys were out in the open, crawling up on a spot, laying hidden, waiting for their shot, knowing the second they did hell would rain down on them. Then they were able to sneak out and get away without being shot or captured. That is a good sniper. That is how I try to play. I didn't skill into derpships so I can't rooftop camp/snipe. I detest the redline and how it is abused, so I have to use my wits instead of broken mechanics to play the role.
To all the redlline snipers, let's go Snipe hunting. It's really fun and you would all enjoy it. It is just about as effective as redline sniping as well (Look it up if you don't get the reference)

Last time I checked we still didn't teach headshots
We still didn't teach shooting from the same place twice if it could be helped
and last time I checked you always had a spotter with you with a dmr to watch your back.

I hope you're a solid sniper. I look forward to some cat and mouse in the near future. Too many snipers these days are just pretenders who don't understand the art and are easy pickings. I just hope "wherever I do it from" isn't the redline.

We (dedicated and semi-dedicated snipers) told you the range nerfs would not fix redline snipers - only getting rid of the redline with a better solution for spawn camping (which the redline did not fix prevent to begin with) will do that.
We told you all.
You all just said "oh qq more snipers hurr durr risk hurr".
Now you've qq'd the legitimate sniper into a range nerf that hurts our ability to project fear without hurting the redline sniper's ability to farm kills from a position where you're still too lazy or too inept to neutralize them.

dunno most friendly thales users I saw today where well within counter snipe and stabbing ranges.
either way its going to take some time before the new behaviors settle into normal game play as the meta relearned.
I am likely not going to suggest any further actual range nerfs. Rather focus on the zoom instead as a means of further drawing the sniper in closer but letting those who are good shots continue to remain at their far range.
If ccp however insists on drawing the range down further though I have a do not go past 300 meters sign already ready for it.
