So I've been hearing a lot of people ***** about how they are always getting proto stomped when they get out of the Academy. Then they go around saying that they should get more starting SP or nerf protots and other **** like that. But what you people don't get is that all us experienced players had to go through the same ****. SO STOP BITCHING ABOUT IT!!!!!
So instead of complaining, why don't you start coming up with ideas, other than nerfing protos or starting out with more SP, that will help out the new players.

People were coming up with ways to help new players a year ago and CCP never listened. What makes you think they will implement something now considering the Dev team has been assigned to Legion?
DUST is literally on life support until Legion comes out, at which point I'm expecting them to offer character transfers as well as a deadline to when the DUST servers go offline. It may not be for a other year or more, but expect it to happen

Not to burst your bubble but when we started the level of protostomping was not so high, right now the skill points difference is way too large and it will keep getting worse until CCP introduces SP rollover and maybe other incentives for the new player, maybe no cap until they hit 10 million.

If you've created an alt to relive your academy days, you know how painful it is when you "graduate" even though you have experience playing the game. It's brutal. For the new bloods, I'd advise to squad up and check out new player friendly corps instead of berating them to suck it up and bend over because you had to. That said, we're here for you too OP. We'll put you down for a nap after your tantrum and get you a cookie when you wake up. ;-) |

Speaking as someone who is actually a vet, no, I didn't go through that.
I started off with the same amount of SP as every other player around me. We all grew together. You could see the field evolving over time with you if you were playing at that time. There was a time when Duvolles were rare, and vk.1s rarer still.
By the time I first started seeing prototype gear fielded, I was in a full set of advanced gear. It never really became widespread before Uprising and the respecs, but when I saw it used I could compete because I had similar SP levels, even if it was only late into Chromosome that I used the prototype gear.
Newbies today don't have that luxury. When they jump into their first non-academy matches with their shiny new standard gear that may have served them well in academy, they get utterly destroyed.
If you are a new player in militia gear against even a wildly incompetent player in proto gear, you will get destroyed. A militia assault rifle is incapable of downing some proto assaults and heavies even if you land every single shot in the clip. Of course, this is combined with slower reload speeds, worse versatility, a fraction of the HP, low gear efficacies...
I never had to fight against invisible people who knew precisely where I was at all times, ran much faster than me, and could kill me in an instant. I never had to fight against unstoppable juggernauts who took multiple clips to kill and could vaporise me instantly. I never had to fight against players who had three times my HP and much better damage even though we were using the same frame and weapon types.

yes they went through it and now have 50m+ or what ever.. and to give the game some more life im sure the vets would agree some extra sp for newbies would go far into bulking up numbers.. maybe SP bonus stops at 10million or something? that way its still a god damn long grind to bittervet status of 40m+

Most of you who started in closed beta didn't have to contend with vets who had 50 million or more SP, and millions if not billions of Isk to spend.
What the new players have to contend with now is much different than what you would have had to contend with as a closed beta vet, or even what I experienced at the beginning of open beta.
Maybe learn to look at things from the perspective of another before saying that they have no valid issues.

To put this in perspective, OP's corp is built off of the remains of one of those openly racist "proto-only" corps that was wiped from the game once word got out about their behavior.

true, not to mention that one of the most solid ways of preventing this would have been to completely categorize the matchmaking system based solely on SP unless your in a squad, then it would be the all around average SP of the squad but you get my point.
If we had a separation of players based on SP alone we would have 2x as many people playing than we do now, sure it might be a little empty at first but the long term benefit outweighs the short term boredom. instead we had players saying to change nothing since it was already too late according to them, resulting in a larger decrease in players logging on. At least with an SP separation we would have players fighting against other players on their same tier level, sure someone will be more skilled than others but that will happen no matter what game you play online.
CCP is at fault for 80% of the failure Dust 514 has become, we Vets are left with 10% of it. mainly because its CCP's responsibility to modify and update the games they make to accommodate their players which in this case they did not, while we are to blame for not caring about new bloods as much as we should have cared.
all in all, almost everyone has a part in this game's failure, but out of the players alone, people like the OP are mainly to blame for trying to force noobs into a shark tank covered in fresh meat cause they want easy kills to make them feel good about their horrible FPS gameplay skills.

Quite a few of us never dealt with anything close to the current proto stomping.
Alot of people came in during beta where it was a much more even playing field.
Others (including myself) came in right at uprising when many vets were excited about the game and glad to see new blood so they were helpful in teaching things and giving away isk. In the current climate trying to teach someone is impossible because they do not have the ability to stay alive long enough to learn and any isk you give them will just be gone in a few matches.
I can say 100% that if I joined the game totally new in its current state it would likely be deleted in under an hour.
Quite a few great ideas have been proposed and quickly buried no matter who posted it where. This is the nature of the forums tho. |

Boom. Better solution: graduate at current WP. After graduation, add a game mode called Academy that is the only mode checked by default. This is available until you hit an SP cap of around 5mill SP. Technically this is separate from the existing academy because you don't want players with 4.9mill SP stomping guys loading the game for their first match, trying to learn the controls. Also you want new players to realize there is more to the game than just the academy, So they should have the option of fighting regular pubs, FW, or even PC (not likely).
This is the best of both worlds. It gives new players freedom and flexibility, but also provides a stomp-free environment for them to build up a solid ADV fit that's reasonably competitive, make some friends, and learn tactics, maps and game mechanics. Combine this with CCP Rattati's plan for matchmaking (ideally based on WPs per death) and you have a recipe for dramatically increased new player retention.
Best PvE idea ever!

I created a new alt. about a month ago, went into the Academy and in my first match as soon as I spawned I saw dropships being called in that immediately flew to the best camping spits, tanks running for the enemy redline and what was obviously a bunch of vets playing. Scores were like 47-0. I called a couple of guys out for this but they thought it was funny. Some had names like AAF123, because they do this over and over, ISK farming and because they are sick bastards who enjoy it.

I don't know who you've been talking to, but most new players don't even know the forums exist. And "OUR" proto complaints are only meant to be shared between ourselves and never said seriously.
Example:
person a: Argh, that really sucked. I hate how I've died x amount of times to this proto scout with proto shotgun. I hate this game!! person b: I know, right? but did you see how I crashed that dropship? person a: lol. that was pretty funny. person b: lost a lot of isk. oh well. want to play another match? person a: sure!!
You know, most new players are perfectly happy just playing the game. We understand that there are a lot of players better than us, that there are a lot of tactics that may seem cheap, and that we have a long way to go before we can play competitively, but it is ALL PART OF THE GAME.
Besides, if I had to guess who's doing the most complaining, I would say it is players stuck somewhere between intermediate and vet status and are sick of not being able to cross that last hurdle.
so leave us new players out of this!! Nerf your own game! We're just going to enjoy Dust. So there!

This argument started too dam late so please don't get all up in arms about it now because this game has an expiration date and the community doesn't know when .... trying to start this discussion now is pointless .
If you want to make the starting of the experience better then give better instructions for new players and lengthen the process before they graduate , like they must accumulate one hundred thousand war points or five million skill points before they graduate .
That gives them time to find squad mates , help them to develop strategy and gives them a longer period of playing with similar skilled players and not thrown into the mix with players who are clearly more overwhelming .
There is not need to strip gear or give a massive cushion to players , even more so when most of the community are alts and players have 3 or more alts on several accounts . This is skill stacking what most of you are proposing , where you have multiple alts with massive amounts of skill points .. ready to stomp at a moments notice .
This is not helping new player experience at all .
Constructive communication and instruction is what new players need the most .
They need more time gaining instruction and becoming familiar with the environment .
The whole community needs better matchmaking .
New players shouldn't have any of the perks that the previous players didn't have , they need better instruction ... a longer process to help them get familiar with the game , the mechanics and the purpose of their creation as a part of the New Eden universe .
I started when all of these things that we are experiencing , have come to pass and is still evolving .... yes it was hard but that was because as a new player I didn't have any instruction or direction . CCP did a horrible job in that instance and relied on the community to be it's tutorial .
If we didn't have so many players with multiple accounts and the ability to not manipulate that fact , then this discussion would be worth while but when you have players talking about the " new player experience " , I don't get that vibe ... I sense another way to manipulate the system so players could have multiple proto on multiple accounts with multiple alts and that's not new player experience . That's alt skill stacking and leaving this game in a worst environment with an even worst experience for " real new players " and not alts .
Edit : I'm starting to see players admit that newer players know nothing about the newsletter or the forum , so when these people carry a banner for the " New player experience " ... I have to question their real intentions .
I spoke on this topic before but like the examples that I have made earlier , there are ways that one can actually help newer players without adding another manipulative mechanic in game .
Delta should come with a SP or infantry SP refund so that a campaign for one is not needed .

there is a fine difference between working hard and getting ass raped all the time, ever since uprising though, the working hard factor is non existent anymore, its either you live through a year of getting ass raped by players who have been here since closed beta or you quit.
