First choice would be Ambush OMS w/o vehicles. Although, I wouldn't mind keeping ambush & ambush OMS as they are now so long we are able to choose between the two in the battle finder.

Although tanks can now be destroyed by a good gunner on an installation, dropships cannot be taken down so easily. Yeah you can forge/swarm a gorgon or viper, but ******* ADS . Going to point this out because I think this is something people truly do fail to notice. As another guy mentioned, you can shoot back at the proto suit and not need to do anything special, like switch to an AV fit that can be limited against other suits.
But the fact that you "stand a chance" (often times, you don't to begin with), causes people to overlook that and hate on the tank. As they generally can be much harder to engage.

What I'm saying here, if you aren't coordinated, you WON'T stand a chance anyways. In more than a few matches, the opposing team was lucky to get our count down by a 1/4. And that was simply due to the blueberries dying.
When we got an OMS, since I'm typically a try hard when in a squad and these fella's know me and my tank VERY well, I pull out my 750K blaster tank. 750K because of the 2 small rails I run on it, one being a proto small and the other an advanced.

And AV was DEF heavy. Had i been a lesser tanker (and I had seen a few out there) I most certainly would have lost more then 2 from my matches. But I know AV, I know my tanks limitations, and I understand how to effectively use cover and still make an impact on the outcome. Not to mention, having 2 gunners shreds enemy tanks when we all fire at the same time(A maddie dropped in literally 3 seconds) What I'm saying is that I'm pretty damn good with a tank.
So you can liken me in my tank to that proto suit (that typically get higher scores than my tank to begin with) who goes 35 - 2. What I'm getting at here, are tanks really the problem in this mode. Do they really unbalance the mode to the point of breaking it, when other players running suits can get the same scores, if not higher consistently?
And do people truly believe that removing them is going to magically fix all their problems? You are still going to get rolled by the full squads, who stick in tight groups and use logis to easily overcome you. Ambush will be exactly same, except you won't see a tank killing you, and you are going to spend all day trying to take out those pesky installs with your peashooter swarms or forgeguns, while they murder your bluedots effortlessly.
Removing them from OMS simply doesn't fix anything because you still won't address the real issues. "Dumb" deploy

No choice in what mode one wants to play
Horrid matchmaking (IE a no squad mode would do wonders for the ones that want to lone wolf it.)
Anything else not mentioned

I can agree with you on the fact that organized squads can definitely roll on ambush just as effectively as a tank, but I disagree with you opinion that removing vehicles will change nothing. On an OMS where there is at least a tiny distance between the spawns a seasoned player can in fact flank and not rush blindly to their death. In my experience, it's not the ok players that lose the matches. It is the fault of blueberries who go 1 and 12. Not to say i wasn't that guy at some point in time. I was. But thats besides the point. Even one clone can disrupt a squad, even for a moment which can turn the tide of the battle. I think vehicles in general are messed up when there is no large distance to cross to get an objective. Why? Well when smart deploy finally decides to spawn you somewhere else, there is either A a blaster tank hunting you down like a shark in the ocean, B a murder taxi with a heavy logi duo, or C a MOTHERFUCKING ADS. Without these hindrances, reasonably smart players can get their **** together and form a hardpoint. Not to say that the supersquad won't shut it down in 30 seconds, but it at least doesn't completely demoralize the newbies that don't know left from right. The only reason I continues to play dust after getting raped in ambush was so that i could learn how to counter stomping. Still working on that.
I agree with you that perhaps vehicles aren't the problem its THE DAMN DEPLOYMENT. DO YOU SEE THIS CCP THE DAMN DEPLOYMENT DONT SPAWN ME 20 METERS AWAY FROM THE ENTIRE DAMN ENEMY TEAM.

1. What you've described sounds like a pubstomp accelerant ... a means by which to make an unfair fight even less fair. Apart from ending bad matches faster, how are vehicle-assisted pubstomps a good thing?
2. The HAV and ADS are poorly balanced for use in the other playmodes where maps are big, AV has opportunity to set traps and coordinate strikes, and opposing vehicles can be brought in safely. Are you proposing we rebalance vehicles for use in Ambush, where none of these factors apply?

Removing vehicles all together is winning. This makes me sad. Although the Shield ADS is still an extreme pain in the ass to solo, Vehicle hunting is only really fun in Ambush. That is it at it's purest. No redline, no 'more important things to do' like hack objectives. Plenty of WP and satisfaction even if you go negative k/d wise, or your side looses.
I look at this from an ISK efficiency stand point. I could loose 6 of my most commonly used AV fit for every 1 Maddy or Gunny I take down.
Without vehicles in Ambush, these videos would not exist.

What you don't realize is the spawns and spawn changes are predictable. If I spawn at x, enemy will be at either y or z, their next spawn will be at z for y amount of time, then after that back to x.
If you find yourself spawn trapped, your only option is to hold spawn until the timer for that spawn point runs out and hope there are clones left to spawn with. If you do manage to get out when you're up against these groups that do nothing but proto bush stomp day in and day out, give them a little excitement by throwing a link in a flanking position to the place you just spawned. I guarantee they are on their way to that spot to play the Dust 514 version of Duck Hunt.

It seems to me that this is not a full game mode is shooting gallery, obstacle course, a driving job for infantry.
If I take my rifle and come in shooting gallery and see where the tank - I would strongly surprised.
All complaints and cries coming from those who like to ride on the head with impunity.

only reason is that while i don't mind vehicles in OMS i'd rather have a mode without vehicles at all and seeing as splitting the Que isn't an option i'd rather leave Skirm and Doms if i want to jump in a vehicle and just have 50 ticket Ambush to 'relax' in

So question. We have the 4th special event queue. To my knowledge it's only been used once? For the Templar event? Maybe there was a second for killing devs or something like that. So that queue is just going to waist, and I doubt CCP is going to hold another event in dust, but I hope it was made to be customizable?
So can we use that queue for a Special "vehicleless" ambush event that runs until legion or something?

Vehicles in ambush isn't the problem now that the amount is limited.
The problem is that the predictable spawn spots make it too easy for vehicles to spawncamp without AVers to organize.
Restrictions will just make vehicle user go to other modes and ruin those, I can't be he only one in skirmishes full of vehicles doing useless stuff and making it boring to play. |

I'm happy with the current state of Ambush, and the tweak to turret HP has made OMS much more dangerous for careless tankers. My only ask would be to separate the two at the battle selection screen and then tailor the maps to each of the game modes.

but by saying that you're limiting Infantry who don't want a game mode with vehicles. there are dom and skirmish for vehicles. i have adequate AV and can give tanks a hard time but there are just times when i don't want a python spamming missiles at me all match. at least not until they can be taken down. something really needs to be done about ADS, th eonly time i've taken one down in past few weeks is when its been called in and taken it down befroe it was dropped by RDV other than that we've had 3 swarmers goign after one and they take a hit, hit hardener and fly off before the next rounds land. even if you do get shots off the missiles are so slow the ADS just outruns them anyway

Ambush OMS-no vehicles,the good,the bad,and the ugly:
Good: -Turrets were buffed to deal with vehicles and aid infantry. -No more HMG+LAV insta gib combo. -No more rail tanks sniping from half a field away. -No more in-escapable ADS 1 shotting whole groups. -No more easymode roadkills using LAVs -More clones than regular ambush.
Bad: -Installations will have 0 counter except a squad of AVers. -Installations will be camped because there will be a power vacuum that vehicles leave. -Installations will still have infinite ammo. -Installations are all placed where they can easily shoot spawn points. -Supply depots will allow a nearly dead scout to swap to a 1000 armor heavy that's invincible for a short while,then swap right back.. -Installations will be heavily abused.
Ugly: -As long as installations stay,they will require a 1-1 counter which vehicles provide.
Simple fix(es): -keep ambush -increase clone count to mimic OMS -disable warbarge OBs
Deathmatch mode created where skill,not cheap shenanigans,determines the winning team.
Was banned for fighting for logistics survival on 7/25/2014 02:11. Logistics will never be respected.

Regular ambush is currently just too short to enjoy, while OMS is always just a competition to see who can call their triple rep Madrugers before a blue caps the quota with an LAV. I don't even touch the two modes anymore, one is boring while the other is frustrating if you don't want to worry about getting stomped by enemy vehicles.
Removing regular bush and eliminating the vehicles that currently abuse it would finally make it a game mode I would touch again with my 10 foot pole.
If we need an excuse to fit the EVE lore, just say your Bolas cannot enter orbit because it's in high security space. |
