You know, this is a pretty complicated issue. A few things nobody seems to mention is how the tank and turret interactions work now. OMS provides infantry that choose not to AV a powerful outlet to counter tanks or ADS. But another thing to note:
It's not just the TANKING role that you are eliminating from ambush, but also the AV role.
From just my personal experiences, and I play bush a LOT, tanks aren't the murder machines everyone wants to make them out to be. Sure I've had my matches where I was the only tanker on the field, against multiple AV (AV that wasn't pro level nor coordinated), where I simply melted everything my blaster touched.
On the other hand, I have matches where I struggle just to make a single kill, and a single commando AV with a logi reppin can keep me denied for the most part. I've recently ran into situation like this. Where I go from one OMS bush where everything just melted to one where my blaster hardly puts a dent in a lot of the suits I'm playing against.
Part of this is map dependent of course, the one where I melted them was a bit more open, but they were fighting in an area of cover (and to my amazement, NOT using it), and the other provided much more cover.
But what really makes the biggest difference is what they run (infantry). In that first match I had a very easy time. No pro AV, no other tanks to worry about (aside from sicas that I dropped as they came in, not that they stood a chance to my tank in the first place), and a lot of redberries running cheap low eHP suits. 29-0 that match, a little over 1/3 of the clone count.
My other match, I didn't just point and watch as a few bullets connect for a kill. No I had to work at those kills and maintain a steady stream of damage to suits to drop them. Many of these people were running good suits, not always proto, but well fit suits. They didn't even need tank support and had none. I watched as a soma was destroyed more than once by single commando swarmer, and more then once had to high tail it out of there from said swarmer.
I went 10 - 0 that match, a very large difference from the other match. There was even another tank on our side (it didn't do so well) so by all estimates, the favor should have been tipped in our favor.
Yet we still lost, and by a rather large margin.
TL:CR So 3 things here for those that can't read very good:
Recent changes to turrets tipped the balance in the infantry favor Removing vehicles also removes AV (to an extent) Gear infantry is willing to run has a far larger impact on match outcomes then a tank will (IE poor matchmaking and I have to mention super lame "SMART" deploy)
And what happens when both sides are fielding tanks, which happens quite often. To me those are very balanced and diverse battles. Saying that tanks are the problem is just plain wrong and short sighted. Tanks aren't the problem, YOU are the problem. So in essence, removing tanks DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.

Going to point this out because I think this is something people truly do fail to notice. As another guy mentioned, you can shoot back at the proto suit and not need to do anything special, like switch to an AV fit that can be limited against other suits.
But the fact that you "stand a chance" (often times, you don't to begin with), causes people to overlook that and hate on the tank. As they generally can be much harder to engage.
Going to share my recent experiences with tanks and OMS. Ran quite a few matches last night with old friends. Consistently came in the top spot while a LONG time buddy of mine did the same. When we got a regular 50 clone ambush, I went logi and let everyone else do the slaying. And man did we roll most everyone.
What I'm saying here, if you aren't coordinated, you WON'T stand a chance anyways. In more than a few matches, the opposing team was lucky to get our count down by a 1/4. And that was simply due to the blueberries dying.
When we got an OMS, since I'm typically a try hard when in a squad and these fella's know me and my tank VERY well, I pull out my 750K blaster tank. 750K because of the 2 small rails I run on it, one being a proto small and the other an advanced.
/// Side note: How I love gunners, good ones that is. Just a little side note, when you gun, DON'T EXPECT THE TANK TO ACCOMMODATE YOU. Don't ask him to stop, or attack or whatever. Had a gunner do that before, and man is it annoying. You are there to support the tank, not carry him. ///
Anyways, these guys know what's up and work around me. They wait for me to sound the cue to attack other tanks, give me heads up, and jump out to deal with something if needed. A well coordinated tank team is def something to be afraid of.
So, long story short, my tank ruled the battlefield. So did my tank affect the outcome, sure did. But what I'm getting at, if my tank wasn't allowed in this mode to begin with, no doubt the outcome would have been the same. And it's not like I was getting crazy scores or anything. An average of around 10 kills, not including gunner kills.
And AV was DEF heavy. Had i been a lesser tanker (and I had seen a few out there) I most certainly would have lost more then 2 from my matches. But I know AV, I know my tanks limitations, and I understand how to effectively use cover and still make an impact on the outcome. Not to mention, having 2 gunners shreds enemy tanks when we all fire at the same time(A maddie dropped in literally 3 seconds) What I'm saying is that I'm pretty damn good with a tank.
So you can liken me in my tank to that proto suit (that typically get higher scores than my tank to begin with) who goes 35 - 2. What I'm getting at here, are tanks really the problem in this mode. Do they really unbalance the mode to the point of breaking it, when other players running suits can get the same scores, if not higher consistently?
And do people truly believe that removing them is going to magically fix all their problems? You are still going to get rolled by the full squads, who stick in tight groups and use logis to easily overcome you. Ambush will be exactly same, except you won't see a tank killing you, and you are going to spend all day trying to take out those pesky installs with your peashooter swarms or forgeguns, while they murder your bluedots effortlessly.
Removing them from OMS simply doesn't fix anything because you still won't address the real issues. "Dumb" deploy
Poor OMS map choices and spawns within that map
No choice in what mode one wants to play
Horrid matchmaking (IE a no squad mode would do wonders for the ones that want to lone wolf it.)
Anything else not mentioned
But removing tanks simply doesn't fix a damn thing. It will still be a one sided stomp fest for those that complain about it.
